Hua Meiling

Fourth High School, Yanjing.

Students poured out as the school ended for the day. Some were chatting happily, some depressed over their performances and some who were already couples acting lovey-dovey. But a good number of students, girls and boys alike were secretly watching a person from the corner of their eyes - the school goddess, Hua Meiling.

With her tall stature and exquisite features, she was like a fairy carved by the heavens. As the wind blew, her long hair fluttered as it gave her an otherworldly look. Everyone wished to talk to this goddess, but no one had the courage to do so. She was a well known Ice Queen, only responding to her few friends. Even several teachers got the cold shoulder when they attempted to strike a conversation with her.

Suddenly, everyone saw a figure walking over to where their goddess was standing. Someone wanted to stop them, but retreated as soon as they saw who it was. It was Li Feng, a handsome young man who was the second son of the Li Family - whose business could be said to rival that of the Hua's. It was a well known fact that Li Feng had been pursuing the goddess from a month ago but had not even managed to speak a word to her.

Seeing this move, everyone understood his aim - he was going to talk to her in front of the whole school so as to pressurize her into a conversation. Wearing a smile on his face, he walked up to her and began striking up a conversation.

"Ling'er, is your driver not here yet? Allow me to send you home then." he craftily said, aiming to get some alone time with her. He was staking everything now, if he couldn't make her talk then it would be akin to losing his face. But he had no choice as his father wanted him to make some progress within the week.

Seeing her not reply, he felt frustrated in his heart. Turning his head, he secretly made a signal to drive his car around to pick them up so that he could activate his other plan. Soon, a grey Audi A6 screeched to a halt beside them. Li Feng happily went over to the car and opened the door, standing to the side to let her in. He felt quite pleased with himself for coming up with the idea of using this method to force her into the car.

To everyone's surprise, Hua Meiling started to move towards the car. Curse words were soon being thrown in the air.

"Damn, that bast**d Li Feng actually got it done!"

"Ah, my goddess do not walk down this evil path!"

"Every dog has it's day, looks like Li Feng came across his today."

"Sigh, let me go cry myself to sleep at home."

....

As everyone cursed, Li Feng was gloating inside having finally achieved success. Just as he plastered a wide grin on his face before standing straight to welcome her into the car, she just walked past him before entering her Land Rover which had parked just behind his. All were silent for a few minutes till they all exploded in laughter. Amidst them all Li Feng was still holding the door, his face ashen thinking about the embarrassment he endured today.

Meanwhile, in the car Hua Meiling was giggling non-stop as she recalled Li Feng's expression. The driver, Dong Yi was also finding the whole matter funny. He was instructed by her to come only after Li Feng's car came into the scene. Although he didn't want to do it, he could only obey the orders given to him.

"Young Miss, is it alright to pull something like this? If that boy goes home and causes trouble for us then Master..." he tried to prepare an argument, but was cut off by the girl.

"Bah! The guy has been bugging me since last month, with this he'll hopefully stay away for a few days." she said, stretching lazily. "Oh yeah, why did Uncle Sun not come today?" she asked curiosly. Usually her Uncle Sun was the one responsible for her driving, he would only be absent in case of emergencies.

"He told me he was driving the Sir and Madam to somewhere and would only return by evening. So I was ordered to drive the lady for today." he replied.

"What is so important that even mom would go?" Meiling was puzzled. Her mother was a normal woman who didn't take part in the family business, so what did father bring her along for?

"Forget it, they'll tell me when they return." she thought to herself.

Soon, they arrived at her home. waving to Dong Yi, she skipped inside the house, greeting the maids before going upstairs. When she reached her room, she saw someone come out from the other end of the corridor with a tired face.

"Sister Xinxin, why look so down? Did that nasty Ms. Liu give you trouble again?" she asked in a worried tone to the girl.

"Nothing I can't handle. Plus you have already given me so much help so I don't want to intrude further." the other girl said smiling as she walked away.

Meiling felt bad for her. This girl was called Li Xin, and was one of the best students at her Junior High and used to be a cheerful kid. However, after someone important to her went missing, she began to turn gloomy as days passed. Adding to this, when she entered High School, several nouveau riches wanted to force her into being their girlfriend and one of them had been from a very powerful family.

When he realized he couldn't get her to agree, that guy used his influence to have one of the school board members to expel her. Because she was an orphan without any power, she simply accepted her fate. Although Meiling was also from a rich and powerful family, her parents taught her to be kind and civilized.

Seeing their actions, she began to hate all nouveau riches and admired her senior's unbreakable spirit. Meiling invited her to work in her villa as she knew this senior was someone hardworking and in need of money. Although she refused at first, saying it would be her taking advantage the added assurance of safety from the rich kid moved her to accept the work.

But after she started working, Meiling wanted to take her as her personal maid. This caused the housekeeper, Ms. Liu to be angry as she had been eyeing that position for her own daughter. She then used all types of dirty methods to force Li Xin to leave before Meiling intervened personally. Although her aim had not been achieved, she was able to make Li Xin into just one of the common servants, which satisfied Ms. Liu.

Although Li Xin said she was fine, Hua Meiling felt bitter inside. It was her who made her sister Xinxin take the job to stop her from being bullied, but now it seemed that she had just dragged her into another life of bullying. Sighing, Meiling went to the room and took a bath before laying down on the bed to read comics. Although she looked cheerful, she always felt lonely in the house whenever her parents went out as she had no on to talk to.

"If only sister didn't disappear all those years ago, then I would've had lots of fun with her around. Ai, forget it." she muttered, grabbing at the empty air. Regarding the matters of the family, she also knew. She knew that there were only few years left for her and one of her greatest wish was to find her lost sister and enjoy life with a whole family till the end. Sadly, it seemed the heavens were against her.

As she was lost in thought, she was disturbed by voices from the hall. She jumped up and rushed out of the room - it seemed her mom and dad were back!
