Chapter 9: I can’t read

Lily stared at the picture book and turned the pages back and forth trying to understand what was happening. The letters seemed to blur together and burned her eyes. She felt so stupid. Tears welled up in her eyes as she looked up to see Finn setting down a cup of tea and bread on the table. Finn felt his heart skip a beat and felt as though he was almost losing himself in those blue eyes. "What happened!? Are you okay?" Finn knelt down and patted Lily's back. Lily was frozen in embarrassment that she let this complete stranger see her crying. "Do you need a doctor? Because I know one... we can.." "That's not it." Lily's words sounded choked as she spoke them. Finn rose from his knees and sat across from her at the table. "I know we have just met, but you seem to be so kind and its been ages since someone came into my shop." "You can talk to me if you wish to." Finn clenched his teeth a little, waiting to see if Lily would talk. "It's embarrassing" Lily whispered as she grabbed her skirt and looking away blushing. Finn felt a shock go through his body. "She is just too cute." He thought. "Do not worry Lily. I will not judge you nor tell another soul, I promise." Lily glanced up to see Finn's handsome grin. "Ok..." she let out a long breathe. "I don't know how to read."

Finn smiled at Lily softly as she gazed back into his eyes. Her eyes were like a kittens. "That's it!?" "So what?!" Lily looked shocked for she thought his reaction would be endless laughter. "Don't let that get you down, you can easily learn how to read. You scared me, I thought you were going to tell me you were a ghost and you would haunt me from now on." Looking scared from what he last said, lily let out a rumble of laughter. "Ahahahaha, a ghost!?" Finn you are so funny. You know how to cheer a girl up." Finn stood up quickly feeling butterflies in his stomach and shouted at lily. "I forgot I have kitchen in the milk!? Milk in the kitchen, for your tea I mean." He quickly turned and ran into the kitchen to fetch the milk. Finn felt flustered and took a deep breathe to calm himself. "Why am I so attracted to someone I have just met?" Finn asked the milk while he grabbed it from the fridge shelf. She is stunning and I know that the way she makes me feel is special. "I know!??" Finn clenched his fists and let out a small laugh. "I will get closer to Lily... I will teach her how to read!!" Finn left the kitchen almost floating, excited to tell Lily his idea.
