Kit rolled over onto her stomach, her arm reaching across the bed feeling around, but groaned lightly when she felt nothing. Lifting her head off the pillow, she let her ear twitch around before opening her eyes.
Looking to her side where Aizawa normally slept, he wasn't there, but instead was a paper:
Kit
I left to go get Eri with Togata. I was going to wake you, but you looked so peaceful.
I'll be back soon
Shouta
Kit rubbed her face in the pillow a couple more times before lifting herself up to stretch out the sleep from her body. Her tails swayed side by side for a moment, almost as if helping her wake up, before she stood and made her way to the bathroom to get ready for the day.
Today was the day of the school cultural festival and Kit couldn't help but be excited about it. All the students worked very hard for today and she was especially excited to see 1-A. They were putting on a concert and Midoriya had a part where he was hoping to help Eri become happy.
Putting a smile on the little girl's face would make many others at the school also happy. So, she mentally cheered on Midoriya and class 1-A.
Thankfully, Kit was only part of security, but for the inside of the school grounds. Ectoplasm and Hounddog got placed outside the gates of the school for extra protection, though Hounddog didn't seem too thrilled about doing this. With her duty in mind, she packed her pockets with extra support items before she made her way out of the room.
When she opened the door of Aizawa's apartment, she was met with Midnight, who gave her a naughty smile, "Oooh, so Kit DOES do things like that, hm?" When Kit opened and closed her mouth several times, Midnight laughed, placing a hand on Kit's arm, "They don't call me the Rated R Hero for nothing, dear. I won't tell a soul." She gave the Kit a wink, "But if you'd like any advice, let me know."
"What are you doing here?" Kit was slightly bewildered.
"Oh, I came to drop off the extra capture belt that Aizawa ordered." Kayama smirked at her, "I was only going to hang it on his handle, but I guess you can actually take it inside for him."
"Erm, thank you." She slowly reached out and grabbed the belt.
Kayama eyed the scarf and then laughed, "Oh, I think I know why he ordered the extra belt now." She waved, "You enjoy yourself, Kit."
Kit was stunned to her spot as Midnight walked away, but she recovered shortly afterwards so she could get to the main campus. Normally, she would still be trying to get her blood pressure to go down, but she had more pressing things on her mind. She checked the time on her phone, showing she had only a couple of minutes to make it to the gym where the 1-A students were going to start at ten o'clock exactly. She wanted to see that little girl smile if she could.
She was panting by the time she made it into the gym and before she could recover, she was tugged to the side. Her clawed hands gripped the arm that had her and she followed it up, only to loosen her grip.
"You're always catching me off guard!" Kit had to yell since it was so loud.
"I took a lesson from Hawks." Aizawa grinned down at her, pulling her close to lay a gentle kiss on her temple.
Yamada was on the other side of Aizawa, looking like he was pouting about something, "What is up with you, Hizashi?"
"Shouta is always lecturing me!" Yamada complained, but his tone was playful.
Kit shook her head, but Aizawa leaned down closer to her ear, "It may be a good thing you are here since some of the other types of classes seem to blame my class for the current situation."
Cyan eyes widened, but then she shook her head, "I think it will be okay. Kids will be kids, no matter if they're future heroes or not." She shrugged when he gave her a confused look, "Your students have an amazing ability to reach others. Trust them a little." She turned in his grasp to lean back against him, "Where are Eri and Togata?"
"They're midway in the middle." Aizawa attempted to point them out, but with the crowd, it was impossible.
Soon, the music started and Kit couldn't help but be blown away. The students of 1-A always impressed her, but this was just something else. The song was original and the effects pulled everything together.
When everything finished, Kit couldn't help but look up at the man who held her, "Hey, this was our first concert date!"
He gave a chuckle, kissing the top of her head, then letting her go, "I need to go check on Eri to make sure she is okay."
"I'm gonna go patrol around the area." Kit watched him begin to walk through the crowd. "Call me if you need anything."
Kit walked the grounds, but thankfully everything was peaceful. Apparently something happened before the festival really began, but it was outside the gates and Ectoplasm and Hounddog took care of it.
Since everything was going calmly, she went through several stalls and bought some plushes that some classes made and food too. She wanted to support the students to the best of her ability outside of her office too.
By the time everything ended for the day, Kit had gone to get her car to take Eri back to the hospital, giving her the plushies she purchased. They were going to get a taxi, but after talking to Nezu, Kit convinced him to let her take her back so she could relax.
Eri was very talkative for the first time since they had met her, so Kit purposely drove slower to let the girl enjoy what time she had out of the sterile walls. Even Aizawa took part in the conversation with her, while Togata tended to be the most enthusiastic. Most of her explanations of things were onomatopoeias and Kit found her that much more adorable.
Kit was actually depressed when they pulled up to the hospital, but she didn't show it so it didn't destroy the girl's mood, "Maybe we can have you back soon."
"That would be so fun!" Eri jumped in front of them as they made their way inside, "I'd like to do this again!"
Kit noticed the closer they got to the wing of the hospital she was staying in the less energetic Eri became. The girl was greeted warmly by the staff and a nurse came over to see if the girl needed anything.
Kit went inside the room with the girl to help her change and brush out her hair, which she was sure if the girl had a cat quirk, she'd be purring. After she was done, she waited because normally Aizawa would join them and he would sit with them for several minutes before they left. When she looked up though, she found him outside with Togata speaking with a doctor. When Aizawa folded his arms and Togata made some wild gestures, she knew something was up.
"Ms. Kit?" Eri's voice was so soft that she nearly missed it, "Other kids here that make friends with the other kids talk about sleepovers after they get out of here... Can I have a sleepover with you and Mr. Aizawa when I get out?"
Kit froze at the innocent question, trying to think of an answer, "I have no objections to you coming to have a sleepover, but I would have to talk to Mr. Aizawa and Principal Nezu."
"Principal Nezu? The little bear-mouse?" Her face scrunched up when she tried to describe her boss, "Or Bear-dog?"
"Yes." Laughing, Kit twitched a tail at the girl in the face, making her giggle, "If I lived on my own, I wouldn't have to, but the school has rules that I have to follow."
"Okay." Eri gave her a toothy smile.
"Sorry to make you wait, you two." Aizawa stepped in with Togata following, "The doctor had some new information for us."
Kit received a look that said 'we'll talk about it later', so she filed away the question. They stayed with Eri for almost another hour before Kit tucked her into her bed. Kit was leaning over, rubbing the girl's hair, and without thinking about it she pressed a kiss to her forehead.
She pulled back quickly to look down at the girl, "I, uh..."
"Thank you." Eri's eyes sparkled.
"Y-yeah, of course," Kit hesitated, "I'll find out about the sleepover and let you know as soon as I can."
She left the room and Aizawa was leaning against the opposite wall of the window, "I saw that."
"Affection never hurt anyone." Kit's ears flattened against her head.
"I give her hugs all the time." Togata blinked innocently at Aizawa, then looked at Kit, "I think Eri needs a mother figure."
Kit nearly fell over at this, "M-mother figure? That's a little..." She rubbed her hands together slowly, "I didn't have my own mother figure, so I doubt I would be a good example."
"Well, if you're the mother figure, Mr. Aizawa is her father figure." Togata motioned to the dark clothed man, "Then Midoriya and I can be her big brothers!"
When Aizawa's face gained a deadly look, she quickly tried to change the topic, "Uhhh..." Kit couldn't help but let out an awkward laugh, "We'll talk about that later. You're staying here tonight for testing again, right, Togata?"
His perky attitude didn't even falter, "Yup! Blood work and scans in the morning."
"Well, have a good night, Togata." Kit told him.
They made it back to the school in record time and when they reached Aizawa's room, Kit flopped herself onto the couch, "So, what did the doctors need to speak with you about?"
"She is going to be discharged from there soon and she needs somewhere to go." He took off his scarf to hang it up by the door, "She could go to an orphanage, but most are too afraid to take a girl with such a dangerous quirk. The only other option for her would be a protective facility that would treat her like a test subject."
Kit paled, "What can we do?"
"I'm not sure." He sat next to her, pulling her into his side.
"There has to be some kind of other option." Kit tucked her head under his and kissed his neck, "I'll help you figure it out. I don't want to see her become a hamster like I am."
"Am?" He asked after a pregnant pause.
"Well, I am." She shrugged, "I'm currently doing things under their orders. They tell me to jump, I better jump or… I don't know what they'd do to me." Her eyes became a little distant, "I would hate to say it, but they could relocate me or even completely change my identity." She refocused on him, "I actually have no idea what they could or would do and I don't really want to find out."
"I will protect you, Myobu." He told her, his lips against her skin, "For you, I'd do anything."
She let the silence fall over them for a few moments, "I love you, Shouta…"
Kit waited for him to respond, but when she pulled back to look at him, he was already asleep. Clearly today had been long for him, so she got up gently to grab a blanket and curled back into his side while pulling the blanket around them.
Loving him was so easy and thinking about something happening to where she wouldn't see him again caused her heart to squeeze painfully.
This was also the first time she really worried about working for HPSC. What kind of control over her did they have now that she was an adult? Could they tell her to up and leave U.A. one day?
Pressing her face into his chest, she stilled when he let out a contented sigh and wrapped his arms around her. Almost instantly, everything felt better.
