Chapter 5 Power

Jack looked at the knife before turning to face his uncle but to Josh's surprise jack asked

"Can you show me how to do it first?"

"No" josh responded

"While it's good to ask questions it's more important to me to know what level your currently on, for now all I'll tell you is go for the vital points, heart, head, gut and throat, strike fast and for the kill, now come at me"

Josh said as he got into a basic stance, Jack held his knife with two hands and held it by his side and started to run towards his uncle going for his chest where his heart is, but his uncle quickly grabbed his wrist and squeezed forcing Jack to drop the knife.

"Always have a follow-up plan and try and predict what your opponent will do" he said as he jabed jack in the gut with the back of his knife.

'Hey jack' little light said

'What?' Jack responded

'The system thingy says 'new quest (beat uncle jack) for awards'

'What the hell does that mean'

'I think it wants you to beat uncle Josh'

'I ThInK iT wAnTs YoU tO bEaT uNcLe JoSh, thanks smart ass I gathered that much'

'No need to be so rude about it' little light pouted

Because this conversation was inside jacks head barely any time outside had passed.

"Again" Josh said in a commanding tone

Jack repeated the style he did last round, josh looked disappointed for a second and continued to catch the knife in the same manner as before when suddenly he felt a blunt pain in his knee cap and suddenly realised what jack was trying to do

'He knew i'd catch the knife in the same way and went to kick my knee cap'

Josh was surprised at how quickly jack started to implement the information he just learnt and was forced to let go of Jacks wrist and take a step backwards.

All of the sudden something clicked for jack and he put his knife in one hand and swung it toward Josh's temple, josh was forced to stop holding back for a second and caught his wrist throwing Jack over his shoulder on to the ground and pointed his wooden knife at his throat.

Josh and a cold sweat running down his face, for a second he felt like his life was in actual danger even tho that where only using training knifes.

'What the fuck was that' josh thought

'Not only did he follow the 2 pieces of information I gave him so quickly, he did it so smoothly as if he did by instinct'

"Umm uncle jack, can you please get off" this voice suddenly snapped him back to the present

"Oh ah sorry" he said has he quickly said as he gets up and offered a hand to Jack

"So how did I do?" Jack asked

"um you did ok" Josh lied not wanting to inflate jacks ego to much

"I had to use a bit of force because you got me off guard for a second but don't let it get to your head"

Jack continued to fight with josh but was unable to get close to winning again, when the sun was around ½ way up Josh decided to call Helmer and Dave over both having an exhausted look on their face and their arms were trembling from repeating the same motions over and over.

"Now I assume you all know how to gather mana around your fingers?"

Dave held out his arm and small amounts of lightning started to gather around it, showing how much mana he can produce at that point, however he had no idea how to move his mana, so far it's been evenly spreading up his arm

"Ha that's nothing" Helmar taunted as small lightning bolts started to spark around his hands, while small they where a good portion thicker than his brothers

"Well this is surprising" Josh said out loud

"I was expecting it to be the other way round, Dave seems to have more mana but less control over it while Helmer has about ½ as much but is able to concentrate it one spot causing his lighting to be thicker"

"Actually," Dave said

"This bozo can't control it either, it just naturally gathers round his hands he can't move it at all"

"Do you have to undermine me all the time" Helmer complained

"Oh" josh said slightly disappointed

"Well it's nothing we can't fix"

"Jack lets see this strange purple magic your mother was telling me about"

Jack looked at the 3 of them slightly embarrassed as he started to gather mana around half his hand not making as much progress in mana growth as the twins during the week.

"I can only do this much" he said quickly

"Well jack it seems that your natural mana growth is slow compared to the twins but I say that your the only one developing at a normal speed compared to those two, hell slightly above normal speed most people can only cover all fingers on one hand at this point, all your potentials are quite high due to how quickly your awakening was, most people sleep for around 48 hours like the chiefs daughter but the twins did it in 12 and you in 24, but if you feel like this natural growth is to short then I have one word for you 'train' do it hard and do it often if you want to grow your mana" josh said all this with a serious tone in his voice

"Now" he continued

"Let's begin by showing you how to pour your mana into different objects, in this case, your weapons"

Josh continued to pull his bow off his back and a arrow out of his quiver

"First thing you all need to know is, it is useful to have an object that has good synergy with your magic type, while normal arrows are good for my magic type already, it would help if dave got his hands on some arrows made with conductive metals

2nd thing you all need to know is how to transfer mana to a different object and the answer is, you don't, you have to allow the mana to flow in to that object by tearing down your manas natural condition to flow through you, but even this is to hard for me to do and you will learn how to do it properly if you join the academy or and only the truly gifted learn how to do it naturally yourselfs, what I want you to do now is make a small cut somewhere around where the mana in your body is flowing and drip a part of your blood on the weapon"

Josh then continued to light his finger on fire and made a small cut on it with the tip of his arrow and spreaded some blood around the top ½ of the arrow. All of the sudden the top shelf of the arrow caught fire and Josh pulled back the string on his bow and shot towards one of the beast targets on a small tree slightly outside the rest of the forest, only the whole tree suddenly caught fire quickly, far quicker than it would've with normal fire

As Jack was watching the flames he suddenly started to feel something again, he remembered he felt the same thing before passing out after seeing the twins perform lighting magic for the first time but didn't have the chance to think about it before, but now he realised what it was, it was a hunger, a hunger for power.

'What the fuck is this' he thought to himself
