Jack continued to throw the hooks and attempted to use the same method on his jabs and straights, always at the ½ way point of the punch he would drop the lighter spell and attempt to switch to the heavier one but was never able to get the timing right.

He knew that the reason he couldn't do it right was probably because his spell levels were too low but he knew if he practised a bit it would probably go up.

Little did Jack know Helmer had stopped practising and started to watch him properly, not only were Jack's punches faster they seemed to be becoming more smooth and clean as of he had done them for weeks, this didn't upset Helmer at all, in fact, it caused him to want to practice harder so he could catch up.

Eventually, Dave and josh showed up at the proper time and were surprised at what they saw, Helmer with a Broad smile on his face throwing slow but powerful punches and Jack standing there in a trance-like state throwing straights, hooks and jabs in fast motions that dave had a hard time following and josh had to concentrate properly if he wanted to keep up with them but knew if they were to fight he would still have an easy time winning.

Josh walked up to Jack and asked what he was doing and Jack explained what he had discovered about his magic and what he was trying to do.

"Jack it's a good idea but you must know not even I can switch spells that fast" Josh said to the disappointment of jack

"I can see that you have some interest in this kind of combat as well, do you want to try solely focusing on that with Helmer, he could use a sparring partner?"

Jack looked down at his fist and then to his knife at his side but didn't know which one he liked more, with the knife he was able to not have to worry about how much strength he needed to put in and he was rapidly improving with it even tho he wasn't able to beat Josh yet, on the other hand, he felt like he was really coming on to something powerful with his fists.

"you can do both you know but it would slow down your progress in both fields but will probably make you more diverse in power"

Jack thought for a moment and decided to do just that, they talked about it some more and figured out a new rotation for him, he practices his punches by sparing with helmer in the first ½ of lessons and in the 2nd ½ he'd practice with knives with josh

Jack quickly learnt that fighting with his fists was much more violent than fighting with a knife, instead of being ended in one shot like with knife fights fistfights lasted a lot longer and would only end if the other person was unable to continue or gave up.

Helmers punches would have been strong for someone his age anyway but with his lightning power added on top, it was like being hit with a low power stun gun.

Jack had also learnt that it was a lot harder to cast his lighter spell during combat due to him having to worry about his opponent as well, during the fight Jack only landed one hit with his new technique without the heavier part added.

After the first couple spars, Jack was unable to beat Helmer properly once but was allowed a break to rest and let his mana recover and jack took that chance to check his system.

'oh my levels went up' Jack thought to himself, during the fights he noticed that he was needing less mana to cast his spells and knew this was probably the reason, but he saw how low his mana was at the moment and knew he probably couldn't keep the spells up constantly during fights and knew he had to use them at the right moments

Jack then went to fight with Josh for there normal knife practice along with practising some proper footwork this time after the break, he spent ½ of that practice time with the heavier spell on his wrists and the other ½ with the lighter only to help his get used to his speed, Jack found the lighter spell was very useful for knife play and couldn't wait for next week to start so they can go on their first proper hunt.

The next few days passed like this and Jack and the twins felt their skills improving each day, but on the final day before the hunt.

"Uggggg"

Jack was sitting on top of Josh who was on the ground with a knife on his neck, Jack had caught him off guard by properly timing when to turn on his lighter spell and moving at a speed Josh didn't know Jack could move at, this is what Jack had been planning for a few days after discovering his lighter spell, he purposely made it seem like it was at a similar level the whole time hiding its growth for this one surprise attack against josh and it worked perfectly.

Jack knew he probably wouldn't be able to use the same technique again remembering back to his first lesson with Josh.

'predict what they'll do next, he'll now going to be expecting this so it probably won't work again'

He also knew he probably wouldn't be able to move at that speed twice in one fight, he had used most of his mana in that one move and all.

Josh looked at Jack surprised for a second before asking him to get off and congratulating him, before instantly asking for Jack to come at him again only for Jack to be beaten black and blue.

Jack want over to sit on a rock before little light began to speak

'Jack it says quest complete' little light commented.

'finally, that was bugging me for ages, so what's it do now that I've completed it?'

'it says you have some rewards and to open the system to check'

'can you open it please'

Little light thought to herself that Jack was becoming nicer to her as time went on and didn't know why little did she know it was because Jack was becoming used to her constant presence in his head and was panicking less about the whole thing.

In reality, Jack had a lot of questions about the system, like what was it, why did little light come with it, who is this so-called creator who made it, what the hell was gravity magic and what else could it do (it's like medieval times they don't know what gravity is). While Jack tried to voice these questions to little light but she only said that his authority level wasn't high enough, but they were constantly weighing on his mind and he was tacking it out on little light a bit.

'Sure one sec' she said happily knowing she's growing a bit closer to Jack.
