What the Hell, Man?

Luke spent a gut wrenching Saturday alone in his room, replaying the conversation with Detective Cardinal over and over in his mind until the front door creaked open in the late afternoon. Footsteps moved up the staircase. Luke quickly turned his desk lamp out as the door to Robby’s bedroom squeaked open. Luke feared confronting his brother, but his mind screamed at him to tell the truth about the encounter with the Detective. He fought hard to push the thoughts out of his mind but soon realized it was a fight he couldn’t win. Luke slowed his breath, repeating the mantra you can do this, he had to come clean. Robby had to know the truth. Luke slipped out of his room and moved quietly down the hall to his brother's door, knocking softly.

“Robby, you in there?” Luke whispered.

“Luke, what the hell, man. You scared me. I didn’t know you were home.”

“Can I come in? I gotta tell you something.”

“Yeah, are you ok? Mom said you fell or something yesterday.”
