Third time's the charm, Adian's PA said! All that is nagging me is why wasn't Adian's and my marriage legalized? Why would Mr. Knox do this to me?
The calm front Adian's been portraying is just on the surface. He's upset but I can't support him because I'm not privy to his thoughts or his feelings.
Another question weighing heavily on my mind, is, Adian's ex, who now claims to be a member of the board of the Knights Foundation. How did she get there?
Catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror, staring into the eyes that stared back at me? The girl who previously owned these eyes, this body, has evolved. I have my family troubles to thank for that.
What is that saying again? 'What don't kill you, makes you stronger?'
Crap, covering my face with my hands, remembering what I said to Adian in his office. 'I had sex before marriage.' I'm so stupid, but nanny Pierce always taught me that it is the proper way for young decent girls with character. Am I now one of those characterless girls whose not married and I'm sexually active?
Hearing a knock on the door, then Basil's voice on the other side calling my name. F**k, they're ready!
Am I reading to so this over again? Would Amelia continue to flight me every step of the way to get rid of me again and again until her son gets fed up of the ongoing war and leave me?
Panic! I can't do this again! I have to leave again and this time for good!
Without a second thought, I left the ladies room and with a quick glance around, I walked to the sign on my right leading to the staircase.
Grinding my teeth and my heels in the carpet beneath me, because Adian's idiot of a best friend stood with folded arms against the wall, shaking his head in disappointment.
"Why did I think you would do this to my brother again?" he whispers softly. I don't know if he's speaking to me or himself.
Embarrassed to be caught running again, "Amelia" I whispered in my defence.
Moving away from the wall to stand in front of me, "I know that she's a bitch, but have you ever allowed Adian to fight with you or for you?" he gripped my shoulders, forcing me to look up at him.
I shook my head, "I refuse to be the cause of a war between them. He loves her. I can't do that to him." I defended my actions and reasoning.
Tightening his grip on my shoulders, "I know Adian and the man that he became after that whore cheated on him and thanks to you, the man whose waiting to marry you is the real Adian Knights! Basil said with pride.
Fear of rejection, "I don't think I'll be able to handle Amelia breaking Adian and I up, especially since she's in cahoots with his ex" I told him.
Staring down at me, "an ex, whom he despises" Basil reminded me.
Would Adian and I get past his mother murdering my mom and having an affair with my father? Would he blame me for keeping this information form him?
"Hailey I can see fear in your eyes, just remember, just as I've got Adian's back, I've got yours." Basil encouraging words are meant to be comforting "and the only person who could break your relationship with Adian is you!" Basil reminds me forcefully.
Making a decision, "okay, just don't tell Adian about this." pointing to the staircase.
Chuckling, Basil and I walk back to the office, where Adian and I will be officially married. "On one condition" Basil tries to bargain.
Without stopping to look at him, "tell me, your wish is my command." I laugh with him, although I'm so nervous.
"Make me Adian's best man" Basil says softly.
Stopping inside the doorway, "seriously?" I responded in surprise. "The PA got that privilege ?' I asked surprised in the very quiet room.
Looking around at all the eyes that were on me, reverting to only one pair of blues, whose eyes were not on me but but where Basil and I were hooked by the elbows.
Guilt had me pushing Basil away, although we did nothing wrong.
Chuckling Basil leans to whisper in my ear, "now that's the possessive look of a man inlove." he laughs annoying me, that I just shoved him further away.
Mr. Knox approached but I am so hurt by what he did to me, to Adian and I, that I ignored him and walked over to join Adian stood with a woman in a judges cape.
Instantly apologetic for keeping them back because of my fears. "I'm so sorry that I have kept you all waiting." I smiled at the judge and then at Adian's stone cold face.
Laughing softly, "I think that your fiance was concern that you were not going to show up." The judge hit the hammer on the nail.
Giggling shyly, "isn't it traditional for a wife to be late, plus I would never turn down a chance to eat wedding cake." I responded with my eyes on my fiancé.
Walking to stand behind a podium, still laughing, "let's begin, this bride is anxious to have a piece of wedding cake." she says as everyone comes closer.
"I'm sorry." I whispered softly to Adian.
Leaning down to me, "after tonight I'll let you know if you are forgiven." Adian whispers with a slight twitch at the corner of his lips.
In less than fifteen minutes, Adian and I were married, again, but this time in a court house. Adian took contact number for the judge and the clerk to invite them to a late lunch after the board meeting at Knights Foundation.
Mr. Knox approached me again but I didn't need to hear his excuses, "I would like you to gather everything you have with my name on it."
