Wow, Hailey's definitely pisst! Knowing her, she's more hurt at Knox's betrayal.
Hailey walks away, from Knox whose eyes reflected deep sorrow.
Taking a deep breath, he turns to me, taking something out of his pocket.
"Here," he hands it to me and I automatically reached for the small rectangle box that's wrapped in new purple gift paper and purple ribbons.
Raising my eyebrows, I looked at him quizzically.
Taking another deep breath, he looks at Hailey before speaking to me.
"Her father" he started, then pauses and look down before speaking again.
"Her father, left this for her. This is a one of the many keepsakes he left her, but it's still secured in his safety deposit box and his account is also in Hailey's name." he pauses again, then takes another deep breath.
"Adian," Caleb calls me, pointing to his watch. I nod before finally turning to Knox.
Securing the box in my trouser pocket, "I'm sorry, but I have a meeting to attend." I extended my hand. "I'll contact you tomorrow." I said with a forced smile.
Knox held my hand in a firm grip, "I didn't have a choice" his dark brown eyes pierces into mines, reflecting deep sorrow. "Just so you know, your mother made me lie to Hailey so that she would marry you, but not registering the marriage was someone else's decision." he let's go of my hand and starts to walk away, when Caleb calls me again.
Confused, "wait, what lie did you tell her so that she would marry me?" I asked, but looked at Hailey who stood with Bas and Caleb, waiting for me.
Following my gaze, Knox started speaking again, "your mother ensured that Hailey must be told, marrying you was her mother's dying wish. More or less to put her on a guilt trip." he said, finally walking off.
Instantly ashamed of the way I treated her from the beginning. The accusations I threw at her. F**k! Remembering Sammy.
With one hand on her back, we left the court house to attend the meeting at Knights Foundation where additional evil awaits us.
Hailey and I sat close together in the vehicle, when she startles me by excitingly pointing to a building on our left.
"There, right there" she laughs and Basil slows down, parking in front a bakery.
Tilting my head I look at her with a smirk.
Giggling she grabs my hand, "coffee and cake?" she asks and I look at Caleb who was already climbing out of the vehicle.
"Coffee" I responded at her enthusiasm.
Frowning, "no cake?" she asks.
I shook my head, watching Caleb jog into the bakery.
Smiling cheerfully, "I ordered red velvet and just so you know, I'm not sharing" Hailey tells me with a small pout, that sends Basil into a fit of laugher.
"Didn't we just exchange vows?" I reminded her. "And isn't sharing a part of it? I continue, chuckling watching her, shake her head.
"Not my red velvet" she was adamant, that she wasn't sharing. Winking at Bas in the mirror, "we'll see about that." I pulled her closer, kissing her.
Caleb returns with four coffees in a disposable tray and a large bag, that no doubt contains Hailey's cakes.
"How many cake did you order"? I asked looking at the bag curiously.
Passing our coffees through the window settling back into the vehicle, "drive" Caleb told Bas, "the boss is waiting." he added, giving me a lopsided grin.
True to her word Hailey didn't share her pastries, but Caleb bought his own fruit tarts and shared with Bas and I.
"Don't worry, it's a surprise" Hailey leans her head on my shoulder. "I'll always share with you." she whispers. I turned facing her and held her head firmly before leaning in to kiss her sexy lips.
"Guys, come on" Bas whines,
Ignoring him, I made sure that Hailey had no regrets marrying me, again. "You happy?' I whispered, my lips on hers.
Instead of answering, she reached up and kissed me longingly to my surprise. "Remember, I'm a wanton woman who had sex before marriage." she chuckles at my stunned expression.
Leaning her head back on my shoulder, "I'm scared." I heard her say.
Turning to her again, I saw fear in her eyes, "scared about what?" I frown.
Straighten up and taking a large gulp of her very hot coffee, "the meeting." Hailey confesses. "It's clear your ex was there this morning to make some kind of statement and she's also going to be at the meeting." she gripped her coffee cup tightly, almost spilling over a bit.
"Careful" I mutter and took the cup from her hand. "Hailey, just remember that as my wife and a Knight, you have the upper hand. I will not allow anyone on the board to disrespect you." I explain hoping she understands that she's untouchable.
"Or you could simply kick their asses." My ass**le of a friend piped in.
Hailey turns to look at me thoughtfully, "can't you use your office at SullaKnights to do your work for Knights Foundation?" she suddenly asks with a doubtful expression.
"YES!" Caleb shouts happily from the passenger seat.
Shaking my head at Caleb's outburst misled Hailey for a moment. "Hey, yes we can re-located and as you can see. Caleb's already excited.
On that note the conversation change with Caleb and all of his plans while Bas tried to beat the midday traffic on the busy street.
We exit the vehicle in front of the building, where Mel accosted us, nervously. Mis-interrupting the reason for her nervousness, "didn't you get through with the transfer?" I asked looking between Mel and Hailey.
Nodding, "that's not the problem." she confirms, "but the problem is the new member of the board who objects to my transfer." Mel continues.
Laughing dryly, "It's Ms. Kristin Thomas, as she insists that I call her." Mel informs us and realization dawns on me.
THAT WHORE WANTS WAR!
