It's a hectic day at the office with both Adian and Jerry absent. Basil also made himself scarce after leaving Mel and I safely in the care of Gerard and two other men, who I also assume were extra security.
I know that to Basil and Mel, I might seem insensitive or unfeeling about people and things that should affect me. What they don't know, is that, for as long as I can remember, I've had to hide my emotions from every one around me, after no one care enough. All I have been told by my therapist and nanny Pierce over the years is that's its all been a bad dream and now based on the reports that I have read so far, or a bad movie, which of course, I've never seen.
After a few years of therapy, which I now know were all for Amelia's benefit. I realized that no one cared about my actual feelings. After sharing, I would still feel heavy and burden down. Inspite of all that I told the therapist, the reports boils down to one thing and one thing only, to declare me medically unfit.
"Hailey?" Mel pokes her head into the office and smiling, I nod for her to enter, looking at a proposal in front of me. Personally I see potential in this client but I still refuse to make a final decision until either Jerry or Adian confirms it.
"I just got a call from Mr. Shaw. He would like to have a meeting with you today. He said that it is urgent" I cringed when Mel mentions the name of the pervert from two days ago and I shook my head.
"Please make my apologizes, because I will not be able to see anyone today with the bosses away." I explained and from the look on her face, it's clear that she already tried to make excuses for me.
"Okay, I'll only take his call." I agreed, wanting to relieve Mel from the pervert.
"Okay." Mel pulls her head back and shuts the door behind her and now I sat waiting for Mel to return the pervert's call.
My desk phone buzzed and I put on the speaker and nod for Gerard to come closer, before I answered.
Me: "Hello, good day"
Shaw: "Mrs. Knights, or should I call you Hailey" Mr. Shaw greets me, his tone, playful.
Me: "Mrs. Knights is just fine, since it's my married name." I responded, politely, wishing I could have transferred this call to either Jerry of Adian.
Shaw: "Hailey, it is then" he chuckles and I could see Gerard raised an eyebrows at Mr. Shaw's response. "I would like a meeting with you today. It is of the utmost importance. I have some additional paper work from my accounts department which I believe would help you to better under my company." Mr. Shaw explain.
Me: "I am sorry, but I cannot meet with you today, but you could forward the necessary documents and have your courier deliver it to Mr. Jerry Prescott's office and it will be added to your file for review." I explained.
Shaw: "Are you really going to make this difficult for us" Mr. Shaw, suddenly changed the topic of discussion and I was confused.
Me: "I'm sorry, what?" I asked.
Shaw: "You know, you, me and the attraction we have for each other." Mr. Shaw. retorts and I gasp at his cockiness.
What the f**k!
Me: "I am sorry, but I honestly have no idea what you are talking about?" I responded, looking at Gerard, suddenly nervous at the audacity of this man and his assumptions.
Shaw: "Uh you know what, I'll be over in a bit an we can talk then. Do you want me to bring lunch?" he asks calmly, as if him and I are a natural thing, getting more nervous.
Me: "Mr. Shaw, I'm sorry but meeting you today for lunch or any reason whatsoever is not possible. I do apologize." I continued politely, regretting taking this call.
Shaw: "Oh don't play hard to get..." he was saying when Gerard cut the conversation short.
"Mrs. Knights, your husband is here" Gerard said nodding for me to end the call.
Me: "I'm sorry Mr. Shaw, but I have to go. I'll have my PA give you a call when Mr. Prescott comes in for another appointment." I said over Mr. Shaw's voice as he tries to object to me hanging up on him.
Shaw: "I'll be by after work for a drink and I'm not taking no for an answer" he chuckles and before I could respond, Gerard cuts the call.
"Oh my God, that man's persistent" I exclaimed as Mel joins us in the office. "Is that normal behavior?" I asked watching my angry security, walking out the door.
After a late lunch that Caleb ordered in, the balance of the day was smooth sailing with just a visit from my father-in-law, who was just checking up.
He didn't bring up Adian's name so I followed him, keeping my thoughts and concerns about Adian to myself.
If Adian did cheat, I can't forgive him. I don't want to think that, like my mother, that I have poor taste in men.
It saddens my heart that I may have to let go, but I refuse to allow myself to end up like my mom.
"You okay?" Mel asks, catching me off guard, because I wasn't aware that she came in.
Nodding, my happy smile in place, 'yea, I'm good" I chuckle. "Just wondering what I should get for dinner" I lied, but by the look she gave me, she knew I was lying and since she didn't call me out on it, I had no reason to defend myself.
"Aren't you going to ask?" Mel questions me and I frowned, confused. "Adian" she elaborates, but I couldn't answer. Do I want to know?
Unsure of what I want and don't want, I simply changed the topic.
