Chapter Two Hundred and One - No One Know Whose the Caller

After Adian's mystery caller hung up, I ran out off the bedroom to an empty kitchen. Not satisfied, I ran back upstairs and started pounding softly on Basil and Mel's door, tears streaming down my face.

The door was suddenly yanked open while I was pounding on the door, causing me to stumble and fall forward into Basil arms, his eyes widen as he stared at me anxiously.

Frowning at my tears, Basil looks down the hallway to my room grabbing my shoulders.

"Hailey, what is it?" Basil asks as Mel comes to stand behind me. "Is it Adian?" He continues and I shock my head.

"Please tell me," I pleaded softly, breaking into silent sobs.

Mel comes closer wrapping an arm around me.

"Bring her in" she tells Basil who helps me further into their bedroom, to sit on their bed.

Basil stoops in front of me and taking both my hands into his.

"Tell you what Hailey?" He asks softly. "What has you so upset?" He continued softly, his forehead creased with worry.

In between sobs, "where did he go today?" I cried. "Who did he speak to?" I watched Basil look away thoughtfully, then quickly masking it. "Please, please tell me." I begged, hoping it's not in vain.

Squeezing my hands in his, "I don't know who Adian met with and I didn't ask because his migraine was already kicking in." Basil explains softly, while Mel whose, sitting beside me pulls the loose strands of hair that's falling in my eyes.

I knew it was wrong for me to ask him to break Adian's trust, but I persisted. I had to know.

"Then where did you take him?" I pleaded, my sobs subsiding as I wait for this trained marine to avoid another direct question. "You can tell me that, can't you?" I asked.

Releasing my hands, Basil stood up and turned his back to me, then swiftly turned around to face me, with a soft smile, raking his hands through his very short hair cut, in frustration.

"Do you trust Adian?" He asks softly and I nod, because I do trust him. I trust him with my life.

Nodding at my response, "do you believe that he would do anything to hurt you?" Basil asks and I shook my head.

Smiling, he stoops in front of me again, "then trust me, when I say I cannot tell you where I took him and I honestly have no idea who he spoke to, or what transpired." Basil assures me, "but what I do know is that he will tell you in his own time and in his own way." He smiles as he tries using words to comfort my aching heart.

Smiling sadly, I nod realising nothing I say will answer the questions that's raging in my mind.

"What happened just now Hailey?" Mel asks gently. Basil lifts his eyes to Mel's and then to me, curiously.

Staring blandly ahead of me, "I'm not sure." I admitted wondering if I got all worked up for no reason. "I answered Adian's phone and.." I paused as I tried recollecting the conversation and the voice.

Turing to smile at Mel, I stood up, "I think I'm overreacted for nothing." I told them. "I'm sorry for barging in here and waking you up." I smiled at Mel. "Now you're going to have to listen to music before falling asleep again." I said for Basil's benefit, as he glares at me.

"Time for you to go and check on your husband, you little troublemaker." Basil took my arm to lead me out the door, while Mel frowns at us.

"What's going on here?" she asks and smiled at Basil, before turning to Mel.

"Ask him," I chuckle as I hustled out of their room, the laughter leaving my face as I slowly returned to my room.

After doing a quick check on Emmy, I returned to my bed, where Adian was still fast asleep with a pillow over his head.

I fell into a trouble sleep for the first time in days and I knew it's because of the voice of the other end of line.

"My little chatterbox" I kept hearing mommy and daddy saying to me over and over again.

"DADDY ARE YOU THERE?" I kept repeating in my head as I slept through the night.

I was awake before Adian and Emmy, which is a new for me.

I touched Adian's forehead, which was no longer creased with pain.

He started stirring at my touch, his eyes fluttering as he tried to open them.

"Relax" I said out loud enough for him to hear me, "little chatterbox" I whispered to myself. Moving to climb out of the bed, because of my bladder as usual.

Adian was still in bed with his eyes closed when I returned to the bedroom after using the toilet and brushing my teeth so I went to search for Emmy, panicking for a second when I saw her bed and bathroom empty.

Running down the stairs, I breath a sigh of relief when I heard her voice as he chatters away in the kitchen.

"Hey," I greeted Mel and Emmy, shocked to see Mrs. Harris already preparing breakfast. "You're here early?" I commented because it is unusual for her to be here at this time.

Emmy jumped off her chair to greet me.

"Hailey, I was coming to look for you but aunty Mel took me back to the bathroom first." Emmy was explaining, as she frowns at Mel.

Knowing Mel intervened to help Adian and I this morning, I smiled in appreciation.

"Thank you" I mouthed silently, while wrapping my arms around Emmy.

Looking down at Emmy, "okay I want you to be good and stay with Mel and Mrs. Harris, while I check on Adian" Okay?" I told Emmy whose smile vanished, but she understood and nodded.

Kissing her on the head, I nod to Mrs. Harris, returning to the bedroom to an empty bed and the sound of the shower running.

I crawled into bed again, and pulled a pillow hugging it, with my eyes glued on the bathroom door. Do I mention the call I received last night for Adian?

Maybe if I did, he might tell me who called.
