Chapter Twenty

After I changed my clothes ,I headed downstairs for dinner .It was a family dinner since the Brown's were present over there .It was obvious that ,they would stay for the night since the storm had become higher .There was no way they would go home in these heavy rains ,at least not with my parents around .

No ,no ,no , uncle Marcial said while aunt Hazel and mummy were about to serve the food .Because it was a family gathering ,aunt Hazel and mummy with the help from Astrid and Jean prepared the food .All the maids and servants in our house were given an of- day to rest . I guess ,they would make use of this opportunity to visit their families after such a long time . Due to heavy work loads ,mum Elisa had to travel far and near for contracts .She was doing well in her business and she hardly came home .Today being a day of all days when there was a family gathering ,she was not here .I was really missing her a lot .I may have had a new family with much love but there was no one who could replace my mother or her affectionate love .We have a lot of history together to be easily forgotten . But that doesn't mean that ,I don't love my new family now .I love them as much as I would sacrifice everything for their sake .They are my gems .

Dad ,why did you stop mum and aunt from serving the food ? ,Clinton asked his father .

Why should it always be women doing the work ? ,we can do it as well .

Women do the cooking ,men do the serving so I suggest all the ladies and women do the sitting while we do the serving of the food .

Brilliant thought Marcial ,let's do it then ,dad said asking Clinton to serve the green salad .It was made up some lettuce and spinach .He dished out two chopped strands of the leafy vegetables and placed it on the plates along with two parathas .It was a flat bread with the shape of a puff pastry stuffed with vegetables . He served me and I could clearly see that ,a lot had changed in him .Initially ,he knew nothing about dishing out food but he was now an expert in dish serving .His trip to Pangasinan had created a lot of difference in him . After he was done ,he sat by my side at the dining table and served himself .

I folded the parathas into two halves and filled it with the green salad and I took a bite of it dipping it in the soy sauce . Parathas are best enjoyed when it's with a sauce and soy sauce was my favourite .

Dinner was really delicious today ,I said to mum taking a sip of a cold kiwi drink and heading upstairs .It was still raining and uncle and dad were downstairs playing chess game .My mum and aunt Hazel were having chitty chats and Jean and Astrid were busy conversing with each other .Had it not been for today ,I didn't know they had some kind of chemistry but their conversation seemed to be quite interesting rather than boring .Everyone seemed to be having a great time except Clinton and I .Indirectly ,they isolated us from their affairs and conversations .

I walked to the balcony garden of the house and slept on the green grass just to get drenched in the rains . I tilted myself and rolled in the grass but I fell on a body which was already laying down in the grass .He was breathing so I quickly rose up from him and saw that it was Clinton .He really startled me to death .Sorry ,I said getting up from him .The lighting was too dim for me to make out your facial features so please forgive me .Excuse me ,I said walking out on him .I couldn't stay a moment closer to him because the more I get closer to him ,the faster my heart beats and the quicker my mind and heart tell me that ,I can't control my feelings for him . I loved him so much but I wanted to teach him a lesson for leaving me behind for Pangasinan .I did everything I could for him but he left like a coward that he is and that really hurt .

Liza ,he said holding my hand as he drew closer to me from behind . I'm sorry Liza ,please forgive me . You were right ,I'm a fool and a coward for not understanding you and the sacrifices you made for me but please don't treat me like a stranger .Liza ,I know I messed up but everyone deserves a second a second chance and I'm sure you will give me that chance to prove to you how worthy I am of your forgiveness .Let's start over Liza and I promise that I will never fail you .

You promise ? ,Clinton ,your promises mean nothing to me now since you can't even keep them but there is no need to keep on arguing with you because I need you more than ever .I need you to help me put those drug dealers in jail where they truly belong .They won't help us hypocritically and sell illegal drugs for the citizens of the state and destroy their lives .They have managed to play their games well but I will see to it that they all go down the drain . All I need is your support ,so it's your turn to tell me now as to whether you are in or not.

We are together in this Liza .
