Unexpected Guest

Pending doom overwhelms him. His body begins to tremble as he tries to force the humid air into his lungs. He suddenly recalls the panic attacks he suffered when he was a young lad. I'm sure that's all it is. Feeling a small sense of relief, he closes his eyes and focuses on his breathing. His pain decreases and then slowly subsides. Much better.

Carl looks back to find the cops are still in their car. If I don't act suspicious, he won't have any reason to search. He tries to reassure himself. Sweat continues to stream down Carl's face and across his body. His heart pounds violently in his ears. I haven't been this worked up since my rookie days.

He recalls his first day on the job. A routine traffic stop quickly turned into a hostage negotiation. Under his commander's watchful eye, he was able to subdue the perp. He then remembers a few other sticky situations he's been in during his time on the force. If I can handle them, surely, I can handle this.
