Ch. 21 -- Road Trip To The City

The entire day had been filled with the sounds of shuffling boxes, the occasional grunt from one of my brothers lifting something too heavy, and the endless back-and-forth of them asking if I had started packing yet.

I hadn’t.

Instead, I spent the last six hours glued to my desk, determined to finish a week’s worth of spelling tests, math worksheets, and my reading journal before we left.

Cody, on the other hand, hadn’t even touched today’s homework.

People always called me a workaholic. Well, more like a school-aholic—just like William. And honestly? I was damn proud of it.

The clock hit noon, and just as I finished writing a short paragraph about my favorite book, Cody popped his head into my room, his usual goofy grin in place.

"What’s that you’re doing?" he asked, resting his chin on my shoulder, eyes scanning my open workbook.
