Ava came back to the doctor's common room a little distracted from the encounter with Oliver. She sat down on her chair and started to look at the case files in front of her. However, her mind kept running back to Oliver's words, especially that name, Michael Jones! Where did she hear that name, why does it sounds so familiar?
Ava was certain she didn't personally know this person but her heart still felt uncomfortable. As she was looking through the surgery case file in front of her, her eyes suddenly zoomed into the name on the top. Michael Jones!
Ava started to read through the file carefully with creased eyebrows as she realized, this was the patient who went through heart surgery this morning. He was suffering from a severe myocardial infarction. It took Ava 5 hours to stabilize his heart and make the surgery successful. So he was her patient? At that thought, Ava's face turned completely white. She recalled Oliver's words and shivered, 'Finish him and make it look like a natural death.' If the patient died under her care, she will be responsible. Ava panicked and cursed Oliver a thousand times in her heart. Why is it that when she didn't want to have anything to do with this man, she gets even more entangled with his matters? Just as Ava was trying to think what to do, Mia came in.
Mia was 24 years old, the same age as Ava, with a simple mind but a bubbly personality. She just graduated from nursing school and was working as an intern at the hospital. On the first day at Ava's work in the hospital, Mia was the one who helped her get around and introduce her to everyone. They clicked right away and became friends ever since. It was probably because of their age, or maybe it was easier to get along with her but Ava always considered Mia a good friend.
"Hey Ava, you haven't had lunch yet, have you? I brought you something to eat. Don't work so hard, you will get sick." Mia said as she entered the room holding a meal box in her hand. Most of the doctors were either in the outpatients or in the emergency, so the doctor's room was empty.
"Thank you, Mia. How did you know I haven't had lunch?" Ava looked at Mia in surprise and asked with a smile as she opened the lunch box. Immediately her stomach grumbled in protest reminding her she hadn't had anything to eat sing her morning.
After Ava got out from the OT, she was a bit hungry but she didn't feel like eating anything, she just wanted a minute for herself. She thought, after she calm her mind a bit she will grab a bite from the cafeteria., However, what she didn't expect was to meet the devil there.
"Of course, I know! We have lunch together every day, silly! Besides I know your schedule, you had surgery this morning, and I didn't see you at the lounge later, so I guessed you probably haven't had lunch yet." Mia smiled and her beautiful eyes twinkled.
Mia started babbling about some young hot guy from a ward, Ava half heard her as she ate her food distractedly. Her mind kept wandering to Oliver and Michael. Suddenly something occurred to Ava and she pulled out Michael's file and asked Mia pointing at the file, "Mia, do you know who this Michael Jones is?"
Mia looked at Ava surprised. "You don't know who Michael Jones is? He is the general manager of KNIGHT International. How can you not know?"
Ava never had any interest in business or gossip, so she didn't pay much attention to the people related to the business world or entertainment. Therefore it was natural for her not to know what Michael's relationship was with Knight International or Oliver.
"Oh! Why? Is he someone important?" Ava asked casually. She knew Mia loved to gossip, so she must know more about this Michael.
"Well, yes and no. He doesn't have much of a name in the business world but he is known for his connection with the Knights. He is Oliver Knight's uncle from his mother's side. You do you who Oliver Knight is, right?" The last part Mia said a bit mockingly. After all, who doesn't know Oliver Knight!
Ava froze, what! His uncle? Then why he wants to kill his own uncle? What kind of hostility could be there between an uncle and his nephew?
"Ava!"
Ava blinked and came back to her senses. "Yeah?"
"Are you alright? You look really pale." Mia asked worriedly.
"Yeah, I am fine. I was just thinking about something. Listen, Mia, I think we need to keep Mr. Jones in intensive care for another few days." Although Ava didn't want to get involved in Oliver's matter, but she couldn't let a patient die under her care. Ava thought if she could keep him in ICU until he woke up, then Oliver wouldn't be able to harm him.
"Why? Is his condition that serious?" Mia asked.
"Well, yes, and you just said that he is Oliver Knight's Uncle, so we must take good care of him, Don't you think?" Ava said casually but she felt a bit guilty for lying to her friend like this.
Mia had a simple mind so she easily believed Ava and went to the ICU to make the arrangement.
The next day,
KNIGHT International, CEO's office.
On the expensive leather sofa, Oliver was scanning through some important documents when Uncle Joe came to his room.
"Mr. Knight, the hospital just called and informed us that Michael Jones will be staying at the ICU until he wakes up and till then no family members can see him." Uncle Joe said lightly. Even though he knew Oliver didn't care about Michael's life or death.
Oliver paused but didn't look up as a charming smile showed up on the corner of his lips. "Is that so? That's interesting." Oliver said lightly, his dark eyes sparkling with a bright light that was never seen before. He suddenly closed the file he was reading and stood up.
"Mr. Knight, are you going somewhere? You have an important meeting with the IES Group this evening." Uncle Joe reminded him when he saw him picking up his suit jacket.
"Reschedule it for me, please. I'm going to the hospital to visit my uncle." Oliver said happily and walked out of the office without waiting for Uncle Joe to protest.
Uncle Joe raised one of his eyebrows in question. Visiting his uncle? Since when did he care about his uncle's health? It must be to see Miss Green. Uncle Joe shook his head helplessly, his boss seems to have become more unruly these days, he would cancel meetings without any reason, leaving him to handle the consequences. He sighed and went to his office to reschedule Oliver's meeting.
