The next day, when Ava got up, Oliver had already left. She tidied up the place and went to the hospital. At noon, Oliver sent her a WeChat message to tell her to go home early.
Ava replied "ok" and Oliver didn't text back again.
Charlie came to see Ava and invite her to dinner. He said politely, "Dr. Green, it's my birthday today, we are having a small get-together tonight and I would like to invite you there."
"Oh?" Oliver just told her to go home early, if she goes to dinner God knows what disaster that man will bring.
Ava politely wished him and said, "Thank you Dr. Byrne but I am sorry, I already have plans for tonight."
"Dr. Green please come, all the people from the cardiology department will be there, except Director Brown of course," Charlie said with a happy smile, explaining it because he thought Ava refused him because she didn't want to see Director Brown outside work. Everyone knew they didn't get along well. In fact, no one in the cardiology department liked him, but everyone was afraid of his designation.
"No, Dr. Byrne, I really have something to do. I didn't refuse because of Director Brown." Ava explained.
"Then please come for a while, you can leave early." Charlie Byrne said softly with an earnest face, he really wanted Ava to go with them.
Mia suddenly came in with a lot of documents in her arm and chimed in "Yes, Ava, please come. If you don't go, I won't go either."
Under the persuasion of both of them, Ava couldn't refuse, so she agreed. She didn't want to make Oliver angry so she decided to inform him, she left a WeChat message to Oliver, saying that she had to attend a birthday party with her colleagues and she will be a little late.
Charlie Byrne was very generous, he arranged a pleasant dinner for all with a lot of wine. As Director Brown wasn't there a lot of colleagues joined the party. Before they had eaten half of the meal, several female nurses were drunk.
To make the dinner party more fun someone suggested playing a game and after a lot of consideration they decided to play Question cards, the rule of the game was simple everyone will have to draw one card, the card will contain either questions or performance and everyone will have to answer or act accordingly. The game started, it was really fun.
When it was Ava's turn she picked a card and there was a question ''Are you single now?'' The male colleagues looked at her expectantly,
Ava simply replied, "yes."
"Cut it out, it's boring. Next one." Someone said.
In fact, this question was meaningless for Ava, because everyone from the cardiology department already knew that she had broken up with her boyfriend recently, it's just no one knew about her and Oliver.
Next was Charlie's turn. Charlie drew a card that said to "kiss the person on your left."
Ava was surprised because she was the person on Charlie's left!
Charlie and Ava looked at each other, both of them were embarrassed, but how could these people easily miss such an opportunity, they all knew Charlie liked Ava so they started to shout at Charlie to kiss Ava.
"Dr. Green, would you mind if I kiss you? If you don't want to, I can change the card." Charlie said with a red face and red ears.
"Well, that won't do, it's cheating. It's just a game anyway!" Susan said noisily, in her eyes, Ava and Charlie were well matched.
Charlie was a resident doctor now. Although he was not as rich as Ava, Charlie Byrne was very good-looking. Moreover, he was born into a scholarly family, gentle and elegant, which matched Ava very well.
"All right." Ava smiled awkwardly and looked at the faces of all the people. They all looked at them eagerly waiting for the act. Ava thought it's just a kiss on the cheek, it was ok. It's nothing in the 21st century.
Everyone had a good time at Charlie's birthday party. They had enough to eat and drink. At last, they sang a song. Even Ava, who didn't like to drink much, was drunk. It was almost midnight when they decided to call it a night.
"Dr. Green, where is your home, I'll take you home." Charlie looked at Ava, who had a red face, and knew that she had drunk too much tonight.
Ava shook her head, waved her hands, and said, "Well, thank you but I can go home by myself. I'm not drunk. Look, I know you. You're Dr. Byrne."
Charlie shook his head helplessly finding Ava very amusing. Susan and Mia were also drunk. They did not forget to joke about Ava and Charlie.
"Susan, what do you think is the most suitable thing to start a relationship?" Mia stumbled, holding Susan's arm and giggling.
"It's a date, of course," Susan spoke quietly and quickly, apparently selling Ava.
Although Ava was confused, but she still had sense. She had already informed Oliver so she took this opportunity to get drunk, she was very relaxed.
"Susan, Mia, you two are not allowed to sell me. I want to go home." Ava was dancing and shouting to go home.
Charlie wanted to call a taxi for her but wasn't sure if that would be safe so he decided to drop her home himself.
Ava reported her parent's address in confusion.
Along the way, with the wind blowing, she got a little sobered up. When she arrived in front of Green Villa, Ava suddenly reacted, that's not where she lives now.
"Thank you for dropping me home, Dr. Byrne." After Ava got off the car, she said to Charlie.
Charlie actually wanted to send Ava inside, but Ava rejected his idea.
After Charlie left, Ava began to worry. She checked the time and saw it was already midnight.
Shit, I'm in trouble! She thought. Ava quickly hailed a taxi and went to 520 Haibin road.
