The Nightmare

Ava was really upset, she thought to herself 'if he didn't want her to enter his study then she wouldn't do it. In fact, she wouldn't go to any of the rooms except for the bedroom. She was here for a month anyway. Half of the month has already passed and after the next half she will go back to her life and there will be no Oliver Knight.'

That night she had a nightmare again. In her dream, Ava walked into a misty forest. She couldn't see anything in front of her. Suddenly the fog turned into a thick smoke which made her cough. She was coughing so hard that tears were coming out of her eyes. She looked around but couldn't see anything in the smoke. She took a careful step and tried to wave her hand to see or touch anything but the more she tried to see the thicker the smoke got. Suddenly, a deer rushed through the fog and ran towards her. Ava got scared and turned to run however she fell into an unfamiliar embrace. Ava's confused eyes couldn't see who was holding her she only heard a gentle voice calling her name: "Ava."

His magnetic voice was like the sound of a running waterfall giving her comfort, Ava clung to him finding a strong sense of security at that moment and hid herself in his embrace.

"Sam...Sam, is that you?" Ava asked cautiously.

The smoke was still very thick she couldn't see anything but she felt the voice that called her name belonged to Sam Evan.

"Yes, it's me. Don't be afraid. I'm here." Sam said gently and patted her back to soothe her.

Oliver's dark eyes stared at Ava on the bed. His face was very calm but inside his mind, there seemed to be a storm going on.

Sam? Who is Sam?

Ava frown and her eyebrows twisted, her hands were holding the bedsheet tightly in fear.

"Sam, please get me out of here quickly. It's terrible here." Ava said in a pitiful and praying tone.

'Is it? It's terrible here?' Oliver's face got hard, his eyes had a murderous look in them. Oliver didn't know what Ava was dreaming about, he thought she was shouting another man's name in her dream and asking for help to him to get her away from Oliver so he naturally felt very angry.

"Yes, get me out of here, I want to go home." Ava's face was sad and there were beads of sweat on her forehead.

"Home?" Oliver's tone was light but cold and there was a mocking smile in the corner of his mouth then he said indifferently, "Keep dreaming."

Ava seemed to hear it in her dream and suddenly a strong beam of light blinded her and the fog in front of her cleared. Ava opened her eyes and saw the bedside lamp beside her was turned on and there was a dark shadow in front of her.

Ava saw Oliver's sinister eyes and cold face. She sat up on the bed a little confused and looked at Oliver with a questioning look.

"Who is Sam?" Oliver said slowly his eyes gradually become deep. He was burning from anger.

Ava was surprised, how does he know about Sam? Only then she remembered that she was having a nightmare and Sam was there. Was she calling his name out loud? Ava thought to herself. However, before she could answer a cold big hand suddenly grabbed her neck ruthlessly.

Ava was choked and her face turned red, she was having a hard time to breath.

"Ava Green, you are very powerful aren't you? You live with me, go on a blind date with other men, hook up with your old lover and now scream another man's name in your dream." Oliver said through gritted teeth, he was having a hard time keeping his anger in check. He really wanted to kill this woman.

"I... I didn't." Ava tried to speak but Oliver's grip was very tight on her neck.

"No? Then tell me, who is Sam?" Oliver's eyes were red and he had no patience in them.

"Sam... It's my friend... my girlfriend, from England." Ava said earnestly word by word, she was scared to death by the man in front of her. How could she tell him the truth so she lied! Besides it was just a dream, she didn't mean to see Sam in her dream. She didn't even know why she had such a dream.

The slender and strong fingers that were pinching hard on her neck loosen a bit hearing the word 'girlfriend'.

"I hope what you said is true. If you dare to lie to me, I will put you in a mental hospital and will make sure you live there for the rest of your life." Oliver released Ava but there was a very complex expression on his sinister face.

Ava's fuzzy eyes were full of fear, and her heart was thumping on her chest. She didn't doubt that Oliver could do what he just said he was too cruel but she still didn't dare to tell him the truth. Suddenly Ava wanted to cry what did she do to deserve a life like this? Why she had to bear all this? She lay on the bed in pain.

Although Oliver let Ava go of her but he didn't completely believe her, His instinct told him Sam was a man, not a woman. He looked at the woman who was lying on the bed and her face was in pain, there was a red fingerprint on her snow-white neck. Looking at the bruises Oliver felt guilty and a trace of chagrin flashed through his cold eyes but only for a second then it was gone. He turned and left the room with a bang sound of the door.

Only then Ava dared to let the tears drop and closed her eyes slowly. She felt really tired living with this devil, like that. She still couldn't understand what did she do wrong.
