"Who knows about the future? I think Miss Anderson is being too overconfident." Mia said coldly, in her heart, she still hoped Ava and Oliver could end up marrying each other and lived happily forever.
"Of course, I'm not confident. I just sympathize with Ava. Even if Oliver doesn't marry me in the future, he will marry a woman who is equal to his status and could help him with his career. Do you think Ava can do it? With a weak salary that she gets every month, what role do you think she could play in Oliver Knight's life?" Kiara said as a matter of fact but her eyes were very calculative.
Mia's eyebrows twisted, she couldn't help but worry about Ava after hearing Kiara. Kiara's words convinced her that in marriage, family and equal status was the most important thing. Maybe Ava and Oliver love each other now and even if they ended up getting married when their family and society will oppose them their love will eventually fly away. The family was always important and especially in the high-class society. Two people with very different statuses could fall in love with each other but would their marriage really work?
"If they loved each other those things wouldn't matter." Mia still tried to defend Ava, however, her weak voice was showing clearly that she wasn't confident of what she was saying.
Kiara smiled lightly, she knew her words were working on Mia just a little more work and she will be under her control. "OK, even if they are truly in love now and Oliver ends up marrying her in the future. Do you think Ava will be able to survive in high society? When everyday Oliver's family and the outsiders will humiliate her for not being able to meet up the requirement of being the daughter-in-law of the knight family, do you think she will be happy? How long do you think Oliver will support her or go against his own family for her? Miss Easton, I belong to this society and I know Ava won't be able to survive here so I think it's best for her to let go of Oliver and find her true happiness."
Although what Kiara said really disturbed Mia's simple mind but she still couldn't think of betraying Ava. She said quietly, "Miss Anderson, people say it's better to demolish ten temples than break one marriage. I am sorry but I can't do what you are asking me to do."
Kiara saw Mia was firm on her decision. She smiled, she still had her last and the most important card in her hand. Kiara took out a bank card from her bag and put it gently on the wooden table in front of Mia.
Mia stared at the card without any expression, she had already guessed long before that Kiara would offer money to buy her.
"There are 500,000 dollars available here. If you help me, I'll deposit 500,000 dollars to this card every month and I'll pay 10 million to this card after they break up." Kiara said boldly, then pushed the bank card toward Mia.
Half a million was a heavy figure for someone like Mia, if she had that amount of money then all her troubles would go away. She would be able to make a down payment to buy a house in the center of the city and bring her parents to live with her and she also wouldn't have to worry about her father's treatment anymore. How tempting.
But Mia was an ethical person no money could buy her friendship with Ava. So she pushed the card back and said coldly, "I'm sorry, I can't accept this money."
"Why don't you want to accept it? Miss Easton, I think you understand the value of money very much, haven't you been working overtime every day to support your father's treatment? If not for you, at least think about your father. It's always good to have some money on hand in case of any emergency, don't you think?" Kiara's cunning eyes looked directly at Mia.
She was very confident that Mia wouldn't be able to refuse for very long to her offer. After all, who doesn't love money and half a million is a big amount for a poor girl like her. How long she would be able to resist the temptation?
"You are right Miss Anderson, money is important, but for me, my principles are more important than money. If I lose my way because of money then what kind of person would I be?" Mia's chin was slightly raised, and her tone was extremely firm.
"Principle? What will you do with your principal when your father will suffer on the hospital bed and die without treatment? Would your principle save him from dying? Miss Easton be practical in today's world money is everything and principle doesn't have any value, besides I am not asking you to harm your friend anyway. Think about it." Kiara hit Mia's soft spot.
"But..." Mia bit her lips. She still wanted to argue but when she thought of her father's lifeless body on the hospital bed her firmness quivered.
Mia's family situation was not very optimistic, her father was already in bed and her mother was also suffering from the lumbar spine. Mia was really struggling every day. The money Kiara was offering would really solve all her problems. Should we accept her offer?
"Trust me, Miss Easton, I really wouldn't hurt Ava nor would I ask you to betray your friend. All you have to do is talk to me every day about what Ava did in the hospital. And whenever she shared anything about Oliver just let me know that. That's all there is no harm in that right? Besides as I said Ava is not really suitable for the Knight Family and Oliver." Kiara could see that she had already succeeded so she sealed the deal with her last sentence.
Mia was moved by Kiara's words. She felt that if Ava really couldn't be with Oliver Knight in the end then she would be very pitiful. She had already invested a lot in this relationship, now if she had an unpleasant end with Mr. Knight then she would be deeply wounded for life so it's probably better to end the relationship before it gets deeper.
"Fine, I'll do it," Mia said lightly. She was in a complicated mood but she finally decided to take the money.
An enchanting smile showed up in Kiara's scheming face as she picked up the card from the table and handed it to Mia. "Take it, the password is your birthday."
After Kiara left Mia was still sitting in the same place and staring at the card in her hand which felt very heavy to her at that moment. She wasn't sure what she was doing was right or wrong but somehow she was feeling like stepping onto a thief's boat.
Mia decided to not use the money for the time being unless her father got into a serious condition. Although she had agreed to Kiara but as long as she didn't use her money she would still have a way back. If Kiara wanted to hurt Ava in any way, she will immediately return the money and refuse the job.
Mia stood up and left the coffee house with a heavy heart, she was feeling very guilty in her heart. She looked at the night sky and suddenly wanted to cry. Was she betraying her best friend? Ava, who has always been so nice to her was she ruining her relationship with Ava by accepting Kiara's Offer? Sure enough, money is good. So good that it bought her friendship with her best friend. Mia sighed and head back to her apartment.
