Sarah peeked her head from behind Lilly, she was very surprised and happy to see Sam here. When Sam looked at her she politely greeted him, "Hello Mr. Evan."
"Sarah you know our Sam?" Lily asked confused.
"Yes, Mr. Evan is my department head at school," Sarah explained with a smile.
"Wow Sam, you've become a teacher and a department head too, that's so good," Lily said with appreciation. She thought he was such an ambitious and promising young man.
Samuel's family and their family used to have a very good relation once. When Samuel was a child, he was very polite and calm. Lily always liked him, but later they moved from that place and Ava went abroad, so their family lost contact with each other.
Samuel said with a humble smile: "It's alright but I like it very much."
The smile on lily's face widen. He was still so humble, lily was very pleased with Sam's polite nature.
"Well, don't just stand here, it's very hot in the kitchen. Ava, take Sam to the dining room, the food is almost ready to serve. We will have dinner in a minute."
The atmosphere at the dinner table was very harmonious. Lily picked a piece of squid for Samuel and put it into his bowl with a smile, "Sam, try this squid. I remember you used to like braised squid very much when you were a kid."
"Yes! Thank you, auntie."
"Does your parents still live in the old place?" Lily asked kindly.
As a child, Ava and Sam would always play with each other. At that time, the parents of the two families used to joke about marrying them as they liked to stick to each other so much.
"No, they moved five years ago. Now they live on the waterfront."
"It's just across the street from us. It's very close." James smiled as he took a sip of wine.
"Yes, bring your parents some other day. Let's have dinner together. It's been so long, it would be nice to catch up." Lily said warmly.
"I should have come to see my uncle and auntie earlier," Samuel said humbly.
The more lily saw Sam's humble and gentle nature the more she started to like him. In fact, in Lily and James's eyes, Sam has always been the perfect son-in-law material. They could see from childhood that this kid had great strength and was very stable. Lily always expected Ava to find a husband like him. Although Oliver is also the same but he is just too perfect for them. Maybe a little bit too much that Lily was always afraid that if Ava ended up marrying him she would be wronged.
"It's OK. I am glad that you still came to see us. But now that you know where we live don't be a stranger and keep visiting time to time." Lily kept talking. She was very happy to see Sam.
"Sure auntie I would love to drop by sometimes and play a round of chess with uncle," Sam said with a smile and looked at James.
"That would be great, except Ava I don't have any partner to play. I would love to play with you." James also smiled back.
"You are always welcome here. So Sam, do you have a girlfriend?" Lily asked curiously. She was as usual full of gossip self.
Ava looked at her mother and grumbled in her heart. Why did she have to ask that question to Sam?
"Not yet." Samuel smiled and glanced at Ava.
Ava's parents noticed that and looked at each other knowingly.
"Oh is that so, then tell me what kind of girl you like, maybe I can introduce you to someone."
"I like someone like Ava." Samuel lowered his eyes but said it directly.
Ava just took a sip of her orange juice, she almost choked on that hearing Sam and her face turned pale. She swallowed the orange juice held her forehead with one hand. She was embarrassed and stressed both.
"Ava, she is so short-tempered, Sam likes this type. Good ..good." Lily said with a smile.
James and Lily both laughed out loud. Lily was overjoyed thinking Sam must like Ava very much otherwise why would he directly mention her in front of them.
Ava was silent the whole time, looking at her parent's happy faces Ava could tell they were very happy to see Sam and they liked him very much.
After dinner, James opened the chessboard to play with Samuel. Lily, Sarah, and Ava sat down in the living room to watch TV.
Ava sat there for a while but she was so tired that she started to doze off around 9.30, she couldn't stay seated there anymore but Sam was still there playing with her father and she felt it was a bit rude to go back to her room to sleep while he was here.
Sarah saw that Ava was drowsy she elbowed her and said "Ava if you are sleepy go back to your room and sleep. You look very tired anyway."
Ava yawned and looked at the clock on the wall. It's nearly ten o'clock, she realized that Oliver hasn't called her today yet. Why? Where was her phone? She was suddenly wide awake and ran into her room remembering her phone was on change. She looked at the phone it was fully charged now. She looked at her phone and saw that Oliver did call her. In fact, he called three times! Ava immediately called him back.
