Distraction

Lily and Sarah were in the living room when they heard the shattering noise from Ava's room, they both quickly went to her room and saw Ava was in her bathroom. Lily banged her door loudly "Ava, honey are you alright? Please open the door."

Ava was standing there staring at the broken mirror as if she was looking at her own broken heart. She heard the loud bang and got back to her mind, "I am fine, mom. I just accidentally broke the mirror. You can leave, I'll be down there in a minute."

"Ava honey, no matter what happened, we'll be always by your side," Lily said before leaving Ava's room with Sarah. She was really worried about her daughter.

After Lily and Sarah left Ava came out of the bathroom, put on some clean clothes, and summoned up the courage to walk out of her room. She knew she had to give her mother an explanation for her crazy behavior otherwise she will be worried. But she hasn't figured out yet what to say and how to say it.

Lily was sitting on the couch and Sarah was pacing in the living room, they both were very anxious at that moment. When they saw Ava coming down the stairs they both felt relieved.

Ava stood in the living room for a few seconds and said in a low and soft voice, "Mom, Sarah, I'm really sorry for the way I've been behaving since I came back but please don't worry I am alright now."

"Ava, sweetie are you going to tell me what happened to you, I am really worried about you." Lily stood up and said softly.

Ava fell silent not knowing how to respond to that, then she decided to be truthful to her mother. After what happened last time with Oliver Ava didn't want to lie to her again. "Mom last night I... I slept with Sam."

Lily and Sarah both were stunned and looked at Ava with wide eyes. Lily didn't know how to react to what Ava just said.

"Ava, what's going on? What do you mean by you slept with Sam?" Lily asked confused but she didn't know why she felt happy at the thought of Ava hooking up with Sam. She liked Sam and thought it would be better if Ava married him instead of Oliver.

"I don't know exactly what happened. Sam was drunk last night and I went to pick him up to drop him home but he didn't want to go home so I checked him into a hotel and somehow I ended up spending the night with him. I don't really remember what happened." Ava said hesitatingly.

"What do you mean you end up spending the night with him? Ava do you like Sam? If so then get married to him, I know that kid likes you." Lily suggested happily. Her face lit up with happiness.

Ava noticed her mother's change of attitude and felt very annoyed when she mentioned marriage. She said calmly, "Mom, I love Oliver, not Sam and I am not going to marry him."

"But didn't you say you spent the night with him, you don't think Oliver will accept that, do you?" Lily couldn't understand Ava's mind at all, what she was planning to do?

"As I said, mom, I don't really remember what happened last night, and as for Oliver, I only love him but you are right I will have to break up with him. However, that doesn't mean I am going to marry Sam. I always saw Sam as a friend and brother, that relation cannot change. Never!" Ava said firmly. She needed to clear this matter to her mother so she doesn't pester her later about marrying Sam.

"But sweetie all that changed when you slept with him, don't you think? You should give this a chance, maybe you will fall in love with him someday." Lily was reluctant to give up.

"No mom, nothing changed. He was my friend and for the rest of my life, that's what he will be to me, nothing more and nothing less. This is the reality and you better accept it and not bring it up again." Ava said stubbornly.

Lily saw the firmness in her eyes and thought Ava was not in her right mind at this moment for this conversation, maybe when she got over this, it will be easier to reason with her. So lily decided to drop it for now. "OK! Let's not talk about it anymore, you should go and have some rest."

"No, I have to go to the hospital." Ava looked at the time. It was already 10:30. She needed to be at the hospital, she didn't inform anyone that she would be late.

"Why do you need to go to the hospital right now? You can take the day off and have some rest at home." Lilly said with a kind smile.

"No mom, I have two surgeries scheduled for this afternoon. Besides, I have rested enough last night" Ava said. She needed to keep herself busy at work right now otherwise this whole thing will drive her crazy. She needed a distraction and work was the only way for her.

Sarah whispered in Lily's ear, "Auntie, let her go. If she says she is fine then don't force her."

Sarah knew Ava's mind well and she understood Ava was hurt and guilty thinking about Oliver and at this moment letting her do what she wanted will only help her. If she stayed at home all day she might keep thinking about last night and keep crying.

Lily sighed and said helplessly, "OK, go ahead and do what you want to do."ac
