The Break up

Ava's mood was a bit complicated. When did he arrive in the city? And why did he come here? Didn't he find the letter yet? Ava tried to calm down before coming downstairs slowly. Ava looked at Oliver's calm face and instantly knew he didn't read the letter yet.

At that moment Lily came out of the kitchen and seeing Oliver there she was a bit annoyed she asked him coldly, "Mr. Knight what are you doing here?"

Oliver was shocked at Lily's sudden way of address and her hostile tone. What's going on, why her attitude toward him changed all of a sudden? The last time he was here she was really nice to him, so what changed now?

"Mom, I'll talk to him, you go ahead and finish what you were doing." Ava quickly came to the living room and said to Lily before she blurted out something else or embarrass both of them. But she felt sad at her mother's behavior towards Oliver. What did he do? She did all the wrong things and now she was going to break the man's heart, so shouldn't her mother be more understanding toward him than being rude to him?

Lily shook her head and walked back into the kitchen.

Ava didn't know where to start from. She was feeling very embarrassed and guilty looking at the man in front of her. Before that night she was eagerly waiting for him to come back, she thought she would be so happy to see him that she would throw herself on his arm but now everything changed and she didn't even have the courage to look at him in the eye.

"You're back?" Ava said lightly.

"Yes, I left my luggage in the villa and Mrs. Lee said you are here so I came to pick you up." Oliver was very tired after flying for 14 hours but all his tiredness was gone seeing her in front of him, however for some reason his heart was feeling a bit uncomfortable. He didn't know what happened but he could feel that Ava was a bit distant from him. And just now the way her mother reacted to see him, something was not right.

"Let's go and talk outside," Ava said gently and head toward the door,

As they came out at the open porch the cold wind blow past them and Ava wrapped her arm around herself feeling cold. Oliver saw that he quickly took off his suit jacket and put it on Ava.

Ava closed her eyes and held the jacket lightly. She wanted to cry, he was so thoughtful and had no clue what was about to come. How could she break this man's heart just like that, how could she be so cruel to him? However she needed to stay strong, she needed to let him go without giving him the reason so to distract herself from the pain that was piercing her heart she decided to talk to him about Sam.

"Ava, it's cold here. Let's go sit in the car." Oliver said observing her. He could tell from her reaction that she wouldn't go home with him tonight but he has already been living without her past few days he wouldn't let her stay here tonight.

"No, it's ok, I like it here. Oliver, I wanted to ask you something." Ava said hesitatingly.

"What is it, baby?" Oliver asked seriously.

"Did you ask the principal of the school to ask Sam to resign?" Ava folded her arm in front of her and ask.

Oliver let out a bitter smile, so it was about Samuel...again! How many times this man was going to create trouble between them and how many times they would allow him to. Suddenly Oliver's face got hard and he looked at her coldly.

"Yes, I did!" Oliver said indifferently.

"Oliver, why would you do that? What did he ever do to you?" Ava asked a bit annoyed.

Oliver suddenly saw the red mark on Ava's neck he narrowed his eyes and asked, "What happened to your neck?"

The mark on Ava's neck looked like a hickey, he was very familiar with it and would always mark Ava's body with several when they made love. But he knew this couldn't be a hickey, Ava was not that kind of person and he believed her wholeheartedly. So he wondered how the women got hurt.

Ava got flustered hearing Oliver's question. She was so consumed by Sam's problem and to see Oliver in front of her that she almost forgot about the hickey. Ava subconsciously touched the spot and said in a trembling voice, "I got heatstroke and twisted my neck."

Oliver became angry hearing she had another heatstroke. He was really frustrated with her, she wouldn't take proper rest and run around in the sun and keep getting heat strokes. He wanted to lock her up in his house so she couldn't get out and have heat strokes ever again.

Ava looked at Oliver's face and knew what was on his mind, she felt guilty for lying to him like that when the men really cared about her so much but what could she do. She was selfish and she didn't want him to know what happened between her and Sam.

Ava changed the topic and asked again. "Oliver, why did you let Sam resign?"

"Don't you know why? I'm angry, I'm jealous, Ava, it's all because of you!" Oliver said every word biting his teeth.

For someone like Oliver, it was really difficult to admit that he was jealous so Ava understood that and she felt warm that, someone like him could love her so much to get jealous and make someone lose his job, although she knew it was wrong but she still felt warm inside.

Ava looked at him and bit her lips hard then said in a low voice hesitantly, "If I promise you I will never have any contact with him in the future will you help him get it back, please?"

"Where is your pendent, the one I gave you?" The moment Oliver put it on Ava's neck he had never seen her take it off until now.

Why is she not wearing it? Since he came here today everything seems very strange to him. Lily snapped at him, Sarah was hesitant to see him and Ava was behaving very distant. At this point, he was sure something has happened.

"I... put it away," Ava said looking anywhere but him.

"Go inside and put it on," Oliver ordered. He didn't like to see Ava's empty neck. Whenever she wore that pendent for some reason he felt assured that she was his. Although he knew it was silly but he liked to have her wearing something every day that he gave her.

Ava didn't know what to do, the pendant is in his villa how would she were it now. Ava decided to distract him from that thought and said in a quiet voice, "Will you let Sam have his job back?"

"Why? Is Samuel asking you for help? That was really quick." Oliver sneered.

"No, he didn't. Sarah told me." Ava said quietly.

"Looks like this Samuel has a lot of tricks in his sleeves. He didn't tell you directly but made sure that you knew. How despicable!" Oliver said with a smile. He liked the idea of Samuel struggling with his life.

Ava was speechless, she didn't know what else to tell him so she decided to let it be, it's not like he listens to her anyway. He would do what he wanted to do. Ava wanted him to leave so she took off Oliver's jacket and held it for him to take then said tiredly, "Oliver it's not fun to play with other's life, you know?"

"Put it on." Oliver didn't take it neither he moved. He was waiting for Ava to put it back on.

However, Ava didn't, she stubbornly stood there and let the cold wind blow past making her shiver.

"Ava, what kind of craziness is this?" Oliver's calm eyes filled with anger.

"Oliver's I can't do this anymore. I want to break up with you." Ava looked at Oliver and said gently.

Only Ava knew the moment she uttered those words in front of him how her heart was torn apart. She felt numb with pain. She loved the man in front of her so much that when she saw him she wanted to rush into his arm and kiss him and tell him how much she missed him but instead she was standing here and telling him she wanted to break up with him. How did her life become like this?
