Capital City University (Medical building).
Autumn is coming, the cool wind was blowing. Ava breathed the air filling out her lunge, she loved autumn the most out of all the seasons.
"Sam, it's here." Ava looked at Samuel who was standing beside her and said with a smile.
"Ok! I'll pick you up after class." Samuel's injury has fully recovered, he said smiling at Ava dotingly.
"No, I can go home myself." Ava smiled and looked at the school corridor.
Since Ava returned Oliver's shirt, she has never seen him again. She signed up for her Ph.D. at Capital City University and trying her best to keep herself busy with work and study as much as she could, so she wouldn't miss him. She hoped to forget Oliver's existence completely.
It's already been a week since her class started, and she has been attending the class very attentively. Ava has always been a serious student and she planned to cover as many lectures as she could. She was very excited to be able to get back to school again.
"Call me if your class runs late." Samuel patted Ava on the shoulder and said kindly.
Samuel never found another job after he left Beijing No. 4 High School. All schools have blacklisted him. Now he studies law at home. He was very interested in this area when he was in college. Since Oliver refuses to give him a life, he will have to make his own life.
"I should go, I am going to be late for class." Ava looked at her watch and saw it was almost time for her class.
"Well, then hurry up." Samuel looked at her affectionately and watched Ava disappear into the corridor.
Samuel graduated from this university so he was very familiar with this campus, that's why he accompanied Ava to her class today.
It's been a long time since he came here, looking at the familiar environment he got nostalgic. Here he once dated and was in a relationship with someone, although it was for a very short period of time but he still remembered it clearly. That girl was very different from Ava, she was simple and was pleasant to the eye but her personality was a bit too much for Sam. She was a very clingy type, and would always suspect Sam of cheating on her. She would always call and ask a lot of questions or make unreasonable requests to him. She was too dependent on him, and Sam didn't like it, when it comes to relationships he liked to have some space and have trust in his partner. Their personality was too different from each other and he couldn't take the relationship pressure so after a few months, he decided to break up. The girl didn't take the breakup well at first but later when she saw that Sam was determined, she let him go.
Sam never mention her to anyone, her name was Annie and she was the daughter of the director of the education department of the university. After he graduated he heard that Annie joined the university as a lecturer but they never met again.
Sam walked toward the big camphor tree, a lot of memories came back to him standing there. Annie was a good girl, she always cared about him and would bring homemade cakes and desserts for him. Many students at that time envied him very much. Sam reached out and touched the bark of that rough camphor tree. He and Annie would always sit here, under this tree holding hands and talk for hours.
"Sam, is that you?"
A surprised voice came from behind Sam startling him. He immediately recognized the voice and turned. Annie was standing there wearing a pair of black frame glasses, and holding some books in her hand. Like always she looked like a nerd, but now she looks more mature and more beautiful than before.
"Annie!" Samuel said lightly, he stared at the woman he hasn't seen for years.
"Wow, it's really you. I didn't expect to see you here. I just finished my classes and was heading out. I saw you standing here and thought you looked familiar." Compared to Samuel's embarrassed face, Annie's face was bright with excitement seeing Sam here.
"Yeah, I heard you joined the university as a lecturer," Sam said lightly.
"Yes, I'm teaching history," Annie said with a bright smile.
"How come you cut your hair? I thought you liked long hair very much. Not that you look bad or something just asking." Looking at Annie's short, crisp hair, Sam blurted out without thinking but the next second he felt embarrassed for asking such a question.
When they were students Annie always had long hair and she would tie it in a high ponytail every day. She was like a girl full of vitality. So seeing her short hair Sam was a bit surprised.
"Well, I cut it after you left. I wanted to grow it again but I was waiting for you." Annie said bluntly with a smile showing her neat teeth.
Sam stared at Annie and realize the little girl he used to know has changed a lot. She has grown up and doesn't act all coquettish anymore.
"What does your growing hair have anything to do with me?" Sam asked puzzled, he didn't understand what Annie was trying to say. Was she telling him that she was still waiting for him? That's absurd!
"Forget it, it's nothing. Have you had dinner yet? I was going to have dinner, let's have it together." Annie said changing the subject.
Sam didn't have dinner but he wanted to have dinner with Ava, that's why he was waiting for her here. Seeing Annie after all these years he was a bit embarrassed and now she asked to have dinner so directly which made Sam even more flustered.
Sam lightly said, "I already had dinner."
"Oh, it's a pity. So Sam, how have you been?"
Annie was a bit disappointed that Sam refused to have dinner with her but she cleverly shifted the topic and looked at the familiar face. Her heart filled with a lot of emotion. She had never forgotten him, in fact, she was waiting for him to come back to her. She thought what they had was very special and one day Sam will realize it and come back to her.
