Breaking the Engagement

The news of Erika and Sam created an uproar not only in the entertainment circle but into the whole city. Since Erika was so cold no men were ever associated with her before and no one knew anything about her private life. Moreover, she was Oliver Knight's cousin so naturally, the netizens were very interested to know about Erika and the man beside her. The short interview broadcasted live into a video clip and many entertainment websites played it on their website. In less than three minutes, the click rate was over 100 million!

Arvin always paid attention to all the news related to Erika. In fact, he subscribed exclusively to some websites so he would get any news about Erika as soon as they were published or broadcasted. Therefore, he saw the interview within a few seconds after it started to broadcast.

He felt suffocated hearing what Sam had said. His face instantly got covered in a haze. Erika always blamed him for not being brave enough but he has been postponing the marriage with Jessica for the last six months. He did want to break off the engagement but his parents were on a world tour, so he didn't want to do it and worry them while they were away. That was the reason he was quiet about it. However, seeing this video he knew he couldn't wait any longer, if he did he will probably lose Erika forever.

Arvin calmed himself down and called Jessica, he needed to end it now no matter what would be the consequences.

Jessica was at a saloon doing her manicure. She received Arvin's phone call, she was so happy that she picked up the call excitedly and said in a coquettish tone, "Hello, Arvin."

"Jessica, I want to break off the engagement with you. I have realized that even though we knew each other for years but I don't really love you, I never did. I've been deceiving myself but now, I don't want to settle for a commercial marriage." Arvin said in a cold tone.

The smile on Jessica's face froze and the surrounding air seemed to suffocate her. She thought she heard wrong, so she asked almost in fear, "Arvin, what are you talking about? Do you think this is some kind of joke? How can you say, you want to break the engagement just like that?"

"As I just said I never loved you, it was all your wishful thinking. I don't want to marry someone I don't love." Arvin's words were very cruel but his mind was full of Erika at that moment so he didn't care at all.

Life is too short to spend it with the wrong person, besides he never really intended to marry Jessica. He just wanted to make Erika jealous but looks like he was being childish again. He should have known this method would never work on a proud girl like Erika. Now he has to act like a man and end everything with Jessica so he could go after Erika seriously. He will not be a coward anymore.

"My wishful thinking? Arvin, I love you so much, I have always been since we were kids. How could you do this to me?" Jessica stood up excitedly, her eyes were full of tears.

The manicurist who was fixing Jessica's nails, stopped abruptly when she saw Jessica was crying, she just stood there and looked at her stupidly.

Kiara was sitting next to Jessica, so she heard half of the conversation and guessed Arvin must be breaking the engagement with her. She tried to pull Jessica back to her chair and calm her down.

"What did I do? It was you who kept pestering me. Did I ever say, I like you or want to marry you? You made your father propose for this commercial marriage so don't blame me now." Arvin sneered and said mocking her.

He was also getting angry now. He never should have agreed to this marriage, this woman was a disaster. He wanted to kick himself now for starting this game.

"Arvin, you bastard, I will never agree to break this engagement. Don't even think about it." Jessica growled ferociously. Hearing what Arvin said she just lost her mind.

"Don't think so highly of yourself Jessica, I didn't call to discuss it with you. I called to let you know that I am breaking off the engagement."

"I don't agree, this is so humiliating. All my relatives and friends know that we are going to get married. You have been postponing the marriage for the past six months, I am already making excuses in front of everyone. Now if you break off the engagement how will I face everyone? If you didn't want to marry me then why did you get engaged with me in the first place?" Jessica fell on the chair and said between sobs.

"Don't get too excited, I'll compensate you for all this," Arvin said rubbing his temples, feeling a bit headache.

"Compensate me? With what? Money? Arvin, do you think I am after your money? Can't you see how much I love you?" Jessica felt insulted when Arvin said he would compensate, she said with grief in her tone.

Finally, her fear came true, since the engagement she always feared Arvin would not marry her, and one day he would break off the engagement. Today he was really doing that.

Kiara couldn't see her friend like that anymore, she grabbed the phone from Jessica's hand and said coldly: "Arvin, what kind of man you are to break off the engagement like that?"

Arvin didn't expect to hear Kiara's voice on the phone, so he was a little stunned at first, then he sneered and said sarcastically, "Kiara, you don't have to care about me, think about yourself. After the vicious things you have done to Ava, you don't get to question someone's character." Finish saying, Arvin hung up the phone, and immediately blocked Jessica's number.

Since he started this game, he was the only one to blame. So he will bear the consequences alone but he must end all of it today.
