The press conference

In the evening, Arvin contacted his reporter friends and arranged for a press conference to make the news official about breaking off his engagement with Jessica. As soon as the news started to broadcast it immediately became the hot entertainment news overshadowing Erika's interview in the afternoon.

Within half an hour Arvin's parents who were far away in France found out that Arvin has officially broken his engagement with Jessica, they were so angry that they immediately booked the earliest flight back to China. Does Arvin consider marriage as a joke? How could he jeopardize the business deal and the relationship with the Murphy's just like that?

Erika and Sam did a lot of shopping in the supermarket and they were ready to go home. Erika was walking for almost two hours in the supermarket, she was very tired and thirsty so she and Sam decided to sit in the open-air square and have some coffee. As they sat down Erika's eyes fell on the big screen in the square.

Arvin's press conference was live telecasted a while back and now every square of the city was showing the repeat telecast. He was looking as elegant and handsome as ever in his black straight-cut suit as he walked through the crowd of the reporters towards the front of the stage.

"Hello everyone, I am here today to announce that my engagement with Jessica Murphy has been canceled. Jessica is a good girl, but our character is very different from each other. I believe life is very short and I don't want to be in the wrong marriage, therefore we decided to part ways." Arvin's face was sharp and his eyes were very firm and steady.

The reporters took some pictures and made live videos, they were very excited. A few hours ago they got to Interview Erika Knight, and now Arvin O'Neil has called for a press conference. Although Arvin was not from the entertainment circle, but like Oliver Knight, Arvin O'Neil was also renowned in the business world. Therefore, the media always followed him around.

"Mr. O'Neil, it's been more than six months you two were engaged, is there any particular reason for you to break the engagement with Miss Jessica Murphy after all this time?" One of the reporters asked.

Arvin's pursed his lips slightly, his whole body was exuding a confident and mature demeanor. Arvin hardly got serious in life, he was known as a sunny boy to everyone so he looked very charming with this kind of serious look.

Erika's eyes widen and her mouth fell open for a moment when she heard the news. Did she hear it right? Arvin actually broke off the engagement with Jessica?

At first, Sam didn't pay any attention to the news but when he saw Erika was staring at the big screen, he also looked and was surprised to see Arvin on the screen, he looked very happy and confident, in Sam's impression Arvin was a grumpy man but now looking at him he knew why Erika was in love with him. They would really make a perfect couple. Sam turned and observed every reaction on Erika's face. The shock and surprise were very clear in her face but there was also hope in her beautiful eyes. Sam smiled to himself but didn't say anything.

"Well, I do have a reason but this is not the right time or place to express that." Arvin smiled faintly, and his eye brightened up, which made the reporters very confused.

"Is Mr. O'Neil in love with someone else?"

"There has been a rumor that Mr. O'Neil and Miss Knight are childhood sweethearts. Is it because of Miss Knight you are breaking the engagement?"

The Journalists kept throwing question after question at Arvin, fully intending to get as much information as they could.

Arvin, however, was in an odd position, he didn't want to cause any trouble to Erika by saying the wrong thing. So at first, he kept smiling, but soon he realized he couldn't keep that up for long, the questions kept coming and he decided to give them something. He could not admit it in the live press conference before he confessed to Erika.

"I can't answer that question right now, but one day, if I get what I want, I will definitely invite you all to have a drink with me to celebrate." Arvin smiled mysteriously.

"But Mr. O'Neil, don't you think this is very unfair to Miss Jessica that you are breaking the engagement and announcing it publically on your own?" One of the brave reporters asked.

Arvin glanced at her, his eyes became a little gloomy as he said coldly, "Well, I have already discussed this with Jessica so there shouldn't be any problem from her side. I would like to explain that Jessica is a pure girl and the time we were engaged we didn't have anything intimate relationship, therefore if anyone is secretly in love with her they can go and chase after her."

"Mr. O'Neil, this afternoon Miss Knight was seen with a man walking out of her apartment. She claimed that was her friend, do you know anything about it?"

"You and Miss Knight have known each other since childhood. You must know who that man was."

Erika heard the question and there was a panic in her face, did Arvin broke the engagement for her? She always blamed him for not being brave enough, is that why he decided to publicly announce it? Erika's mind went blank, she quickly got up from her seat. She didn't have the courage to continue to listen to his answers.

Erika turned to Sam and said, "Let's go."

"You don't want to hear his answer?" Sam smiled softly.

"No, there is nothing to listen to." Erika shook her head. She already knew in her heart that Arvin did it for her but she didn't know how to feel about it. Why now when she has decided to move on and start a life with Sam?

"Rika, you are still in love with him. Why don't you just admit it?" Sam said with a soft smile. He already knew it when they were talking this afternoon so he wanted Erika to confront her feeling rather than running from them.

"I am not." Erika froze and almost shouted but the next second she felt embarrassed. Of course, Sam could see through her. Although Erika was a very good actress but when it comes to love, she just couldn't hide her true feelings. Before knowing how she felt for Arvin, she was ignorant but now that she knew she just couldn't hide it from others.

Sam smiled but didn't expose her. He knew Erika was stubborn and she would not admit it easily. He turned his head to look in the direction of the big screen.

Arvin smiled but didn't answer the reporters. His face looked very warm at the mention of Erika, He looked at the reporters and said in a dominating tone, "Well, that would be the end of today's press conference. Thank you all for coming."

The reporters under the stage didn't get their answers so they started to follow Arvin who got off the stage and was walking toward his car but his bodyguards stopped the reporters and escorted Arvin to his car. The reporters had no choice but to give up and leave.
