Daniel dropped his eyes said in a light tone, "Mom died. It's been four years now."
Ava was shocked to hear that, she couldn't believe her ears. How could Miss Grey die like that? She was so young and so lively. Ava felt the tip of her nose turned sour as tears flew down her cheek. "What are you saying, Brother Daniel? How could Miss Grey die like that? Was she sick?"
"No, she was physically healthy but she developed mild depression while I was away. I was busy with my studies and she was alone at home. I didn't even know about her depression until she jumped off the city center." Daniel hardly talks about his mother to anyone but Ava was different. He felt comfortable sharing this with her. Besides she already knew everything about him so he knew she would understand his pain.
However, still he felt suffocated when talked about his mother's death. He sometimes thinks he was a useless son. Even after four years, he couldn't solve his mother's case. His gut feeling tells him, it was not a suicide even if it was she was somehow provoked to do that. He knew his mother too well but he has nothing to prove his theory.
Ava was even more shocked to hear Daisy committed suicide. She stared at Daniel for a while then said excitedly, "How is it possible? Miss Grey was so strong and optimistic, how could she commit suicide? That's not possible."
Ava clearly remembered in her senior year, she changed her piano teacher. When she first met Daisy, she instantly liked her sweet and beautiful temperament. She was so friendly and had superb piano skills. Every Sunday Ava would go to Daisy's house for piano lessons in the morning and would end up spending the whole day in her house playing piano, talking and laughing with her and Daniel. Daisy also liked and adored Ava because of her passion for music and hardworking abilities. So Daisy taught her everything she knew about music and piano and Ava became her close discipline. In fact, Ava heard after she went abroad, Daisy never accepted any other student.
"I am not very clear about why and how, but she left me..." Daniel raised his head and his eyes were slightly red. After his mother died he had no family left. Although he had a father, but he was not very close to him. The only person he felt close to after his mother was Ben. Even though they were born from different mothers but their character was similar and they loved each other very much.
Ava couldn't help but feel heartache for Daniel, she knew about his family history and could understand how lonely he must be feeling without his mother. Ava wanted to comfort Daniel and without thinking she reached out and held Daniel's hand then said softly, "Brother Daniel, don't be sad, you still have me."
"Ava." Daniel felt warm in his heart by Ava's subconscious action.
"Brother Daniel, just now you said, we cannot fight with our fate so it's better to accept it and move on. I am sure Miss Grey is watching over you from heaven and she would be hurt to see you this heartbroken. For her, you need to live well and be happy." Ava forced out a smile and said in a firm tone.
"Thank you, little girl," Daniel said softly. He suddenly felt peace in his heart because of the comfort Ava was giving him. Since his mother died no one did that for him and who would do it? Ava was gone, he had no friends or family, he was all alone.
Ava looked at Daniel and said with a warm smile, "Brother Daniel, give me your contact number. I would like to keep in touch with you."
Daniel smiled and gave his phone number to Ava happily. It was really good to see her after such a long time. After she went abroad she cut contact with him, only Jacob was there and accompanied her. In fact, he knew Jacob liked her and would eventually ask her out so he wasn't surprised when he heard Jacob accompanied her abroad.
Daniel also wanted to ask Ava out when she first came to his house to learn piano. He was attracted by Ava's simple appearance and her beautiful music at that time. Ava was different from Daisy's other students. When the others played piano it was like noise in his ears but when Ava played, it was so pleasant that he would listen to her music from upstairs for hours without getting tired. The best part was she would lose herself in the music when she played. One could tell that she was playing from her heart and enjoying every second of it, and that's why Daniel enjoyed listening to her playing.
Daniel knew Ava had many pursuers when she was at high school but she was very close to Jacob although they were not officially dating so Daniel wanted to wait until Ava graduated to ask her out. However, shortly after Ava's graduation, she left the country. Her number changed and there was no way for him to contact her, therefore, he never got the chance. Over time, he thought his love for her would fade away but now looking at Ava's pure and innocent face in front of him he realized, he was still as much infatuated with her as he was years ago. He was still deeply in love with her. He wondered if there was any possibility now for her to be with him.
