Lost her memories

A few months back this girl showed up at their door. When Grace saw her for the first time she was convinced this was her daughter. She didn't know how but it was a miracle for her that her daughter was back. However after she spent more time with this girl she came to realize, the girl only looked like her daughter, her temper and character were not like her daughter at all. After all, a mother will always know her daughter best. But Grace didn't question it she was happy seeing her face and tried to accept her as her Melody. This girl would visit them once in a while and looking at her she could remember her daughter so that was enough for her.

Ava and Daniel came to the living room and Melody helped her to sit on the sofa. Grace also sat down at the opposite but she didn't say anything. Melody looked at Ava with a smile and said in her soft voice, "I'll get you some warm water."

Ava nodded and stared at her leaving back then she turned to Grace and asked with creased eyebrows, "Auntie, why Melody can't recognize me? Did she lose her memory?"

Grace's whole face stiffened at Ava's question. She couldn't tell her that it was probably not her daughter so she just nodded and said lightly, "Yes, she can't remember anything about the past."

"But how did that happened? Was it because of the accident?"

Before Grace could answer Melody came back to the living room with two cups of tea and water. She smiled and said, "Come on, have some tea."

"Thank you." Ava took the glass of water and drank it at once. Only then she realized how thirsty she was.

"Mom, she showed me some pictures of her and me together. We looked very close, will you tell me about it?" Melody asked with a warm smile.

Grace looked at Melody with complicated eyes and sighed helplessly, she didn't want Melody to meet Ava or know her. Last time because of Ava she lost Melody, she was afraid if she got involve with Ava again she will suffer.

At that moment Thomas came to the living room. Thomas was in his study reading some books, he heard noises coming from the living room so decided to check it out. But the moment he saw Ava he was surprised and shocked at the same time.

"Hello, uncle! How are you?" Ava stood up and greeted Thomas politely.

"Ava! What are you doing here?" Thomas noticed Ava's bulging stomach and looked at her curiously. Ava hasn't changed much, her face looked still the same innocent and sweet but with age, there was a trace of maturity in her face now.

"Uncle I came to see you people but I didn't expect to see Melody here. After the accident, I was told that she didn't make it and you two left the city. I went abroad afterward so I couldn't look for you earlier. I am very happy to see Melody is alive and well." Ava said happily. She was truly very happy to see her best friend alive. Although Melody didn't recognize her but Ava was still very happy.

Thomas's face become heavy at the mention of the accident but he didn't say anything, he guessed James and Lilly didn't say what happened after the accident to Ava.

Melody insisted again to tell her about the past so Grace told her everything about the past. How they met, how close they really were and how they got into the accident. But she left out the part about what happened after the accident. After all, it was all in the past. She also realized Ava didn't know what happened and she didn't want to bring up those bad memories.

It was a little after nine when Ava and Daniel decided to leave as it was already late. They stood up to say goodbye and Ava took Melody's hand and said, "Melody, have you ever been to Beijing?"

"Yes, I work there in the city. I was missing mom and dad so decided to take a few days off and visit them. Dad's health is not very good these days." Melody said in a concerned tone.

"Oh! That's actually great, Melody. I'll go back tomorrow, do you want to come with me?"

"OK. Ava, don't leave tonight. Stay, we have a guest room here. You and your husband can stay there." Melody said eagerly with a warm smile.

"Melody, this is not my husband. This is Brother Daniel, you probably don't remember but he was our senior at school." Ava explained awkwardly. She should have introduced Daniel earlier, she was so excited seeing Melody here that she completely forgot.

"Oh? I am sorry. You two look so good together I thought he is your husband." Melody said with a laugh.

Daniel who has been quiet the whole evening and observing the whole parker family with an expressionless face finally smiled and thought what a beautiful misunderstanding. He wished it was true.

Melody showed Daniel the guest room and took Ava to her bedroom. Ava took out her pajama and went to the bathroom to take shower. When she came out she saw her phone was ringing. It was Oliver.

Ava was hesitating to pick up, she was out of the city in this state, if he found out he will definitely be very angry. Besides her location on the phone was off if he asked her anything about it, how she was going to explain it? But she also knew she had to take the call otherwise he will be worried. Ava saw Melody went to the bathroom with her clothes to take bath. She took a deep breath and finally picked up the call.
