The Betrayal

When Ava got out of Knight International the night has already fallen and the streets were bright with lights. She hailed a taxi and went straight home, the incident at the alley and then meeting Oliver was too much for her, she just wanted to go home and sleep.

The next few days went by in a blur, Ava was very busy at the hospital so she didn't have time to think about anything that happened on Thursday and Sunday. On Wednesday afternoon, however, Ava didn't have any patient neither she had any surgery so she took the rest of the day off and went home. Ava spent the day catching up with her sleep and woke up when the sun was about to set. Lilly wasn't at home so after watching tv for a while Ava felt bored and decided to take a walk.

This time Ava made sure to walk on the main streets and never get into any dark alley she didn't want to repeat what happened last Sunday. She was lucky that day Uncle Joe found her, she might not get as lucky next time. Ava was walking aimlessly as a gust of cold wind blew past her making her shiver. The winter this year is a bit too cold although there wasn't much snow, but it was very windy. She hugged herself so she could feel some warmth. The whole city seemed to be buzzing and the night looked young. Ava saw many couples walking by holding hands, and laughing, she felt a little lonely. Once she also had someone with who she could walk, hold hands and laugh at silly jokes. but now she was all alone, just one mistake and everything changed.

Ava walked for a while and didn't really notice where she was going until she saw a familiar block. Ava was stunned when she realized she was standing in front of Jacob's apartment building. She didn't know why she was here, she obviously didn't plan it, but then she thought, how she never got the chance to explain anything to Jacob about the night. She didn't like how she left things with him, after being with him for four years and being friends with him for almost 7 years he at least deserved to know why she wanted to break up with him. Ava wasn't surprised that Jacob never tried to reach out to her, after all, she had hurt him by cheating on him. She stood there for a while hesitating before she decided to go inside. Ava knew Jacob should be at the office right now she decided to wait for him inside.

Ava already knew the door password to his apartment but she was hesitating to go inside, they were not together anymore so getting inside Jacob's apartment seemed like invading his privacy, however she didn't want to stand in the doorway like a creep. After debating for another few minutes Ava finally pressed the password and let herself in, she will apologize to him for this later.

As Ava entered the living room it was eerily quiet, she looked around and thought of the times she and Jacob spent in this very room, talking, laughing, and watching movies together, and making plans for the future. The past few months she even spent choosing furniture for this place because Jacob asked her to move in with him after she came back to the city. They were planning to do it soon but suddenly her life turned upside down. Tears blurred Ava's vision at those memories. Suddenly in the quiet apartment, a woman's pleasant gasp rang out.

Ava froze in shock as she listened carefully, and sure enough, a woman was moaning loudly and then followed a man's satisfied growl. Ava's whole body started to shake as she felt her head spinning. The bedroom door was slightly ajar and wild noises were coming from inside. Ava thought of turning around and leaving the apartment but her legs seem to have other ideas. She found herself walking toward the bedroom. As she neared the bedroom door she heard a woman's voice, Ava peeked inside and instantly realise who the woman was.

"Jacob, did you really break up with her?" The woman put her slender arms around Jacob's neck and asked in a coquettish tone. Their bodies were closely fitted together.

"Of course baby, we are over. You have no idea how I have been putting up with all her craps for all these years.'' Jacob said as he pinch the woman in her slim waist.

"Well, Thank goodness, I was so tired of hiding our relationship from everyone, sneaking with you every now and then was really exhausting. Finally, we can be open, I am really happy, but Jacob your plan to send her to Mr. Miller didn't work and you also didn't get the commission, it was a huge amount. What will you do now? I even sent some people to humiliate her but it didn't work either. It's so annoying!" The woman said frustratingly.

"What did you say, you sent people to humiliate her? Poppy, who told you to do that?" Jacob frowned and said almost shouting, some kind of emotion flashed in his eyes.

Poppy got frightened and said in a low voice, face full of grievance: "What did I do wrong? You wanted to send her to Mr. Miller's bed, I did the same thing and send some thugs to play with her. Why are you angry with me?"

Jacob clenched his teeth but her soft tone and the grieving stricken face eventually calmed him down. He pinched Poppy's buttocks and said in a warning tone, "Don't ever do anything like this again. Dealing with her is my problem, you don't have to get involved in this. Have you considered if your reckless action led them to you or me then everything we have been planning for years would be a waste!"

Poppy seemed to understand Jacob's concern. For a second she thought he still cared about Ava but now she realized he was worried his plan would fail if they get caught. "I am sorry baby, I didn't think clearly. I will not do anything like that again." Poppy said in an understanding tone, which sounded more coquettish.

"That's why I like you so much, you are so understanding, and obedient unlike that willful bitch, Ava." It was obvious in Jacob's sharp and sour tone how dissatisfied he was with Ava.

Ava who was standing at the door with a white face finally saw through the people she thought were her friends and family. So this was Jacob Adam's true face! Ava had to hold on to the doorframe to keep herself from falling, she felt so sick that she wanted to throw up.

So, her intuition was correct, Jacob indeed drugged her that night to send her to Thomas Miller. At that moment she thanked her lucky stars that she ended up sleeping with Oliver rather than Thomas Miller. If it was him she would have jumped into the river the next morning. The sadness she felt earlier turned into anger and she had to take a few deep breaths to calm herself down. She wouldn't give these people the satisfaction to see what they had done to her. Ava straightened up and pushed the bedroom door slowly, and it made a sharp noise.

The two people in the bedroom looked in the direction of the door and almost jumped out of bed when saw Ava standing there with a stone face.
