After escaping the classroom with no difficulty, considering we had a lazy and uninterested teacher watching over us, we made our way through the shrubs of roses and out into the open.
Walking back towards the school entrance a curious and confused Jackson asked sounding like a lost puppy.
"Uhm, where are you going?"
I looked back to the taller male with a brow raised and a hand on my hip.
"Back inside the school. Duh"
Rolling my eyes at the stupid question I tracked further up the school stairs, but the sudden grasp of a hand on my shoulder stopped me in my tracks Immediately my heart jumped to my throat in glee but my face remained neutral, once again I looked back to the black-haired boy in question.
"What?!"
I asked slightly irritated, but it wasn't him I was irritated at it was my rapidly beating heart.
"It's just that, I thought we were sneaking out?"
"And that's what we're doing"
He looked a bit confused by my answer.
"If we're sneaking out of the classroom, why are we going back inside the school?"
I rolled my eyes at the newbie, this guy knew nothing 'bout sneaking off and causing trouble huh? Well, he's just in luck cause trouble is my middle name.
"Look, sneaking out of the classroom is one thing, but sneaking off school grounds is a completely different matter. First off,"
Turning him around by the shoulders I pointed to the gates far ahead of us
"Mr Principal guards the gates like a dog,"
Turning him back to me, I pointed upwards to the third floor of the school building. Where a single classroom had tinted windows
"And Mrs Owl watches who enters and leaves like a hawk. And let's not mention the crazy janitor who patrols the school grounds like some kind of FBI agent."
Sighing out in frustration I crossed my arms and looked down at him from the stairs with a serious expression.
"Getting out is close to impossible, so you can forget all about that."
He looked baffled and a bit taken aback by my on-point deductions. After all, I am a repeat offender so of course, I know a lot about the school's security for detention.
"And just how do you know all of this?"
Scratching the back of my head I pondered on what to tell him. Would it be wise to tell him that I was sent to detention so often that I basically knew who makes the rounds by just guessing?
"Uhm, let's just say I have a very good memory and I've grown accustomed to detention."
"So you're in detention a lot?"
Avoiding eye contact I ignored his question and walked up the rest of the stairs
"Hey don't avoid the question!"
Running after me in a hurry I continued ignoring him and opened the double doors, entering the school once more. It was after a while he stopped asking me questions and remained quiet. I assumed it was cause he had grown tired of it but it seemed I was wrong
"Hey, Addison why are you so cold towards us?"
I flinched at the question and my limbs went stiff.
"We used to be really close back in middle school. We were like two peas in a pod. But then one day you just stopped hanging with me and treated me coldly. Why?"
Was this guy seriously asking me that? He was the one that ghosted me after I confessed to him! Why the hell is he playing the victim here, I'm the one who fell for someone who held no romantic feelings for me and got heartbroken.
Why the hell should I explain myself to him?!
Now irritated thanks to the boy I swiftly turned around to face him and said with a stern look.
"I'm cold because this is how I've always been. You just didn't know the real me and you still don't"
Stunned at my words he looked elsewhere, away from my eyes. I scoffed at the action but ignored it.
"Come on, I'm still bored. Maybe we'll find something interesting around here"
Turning around to proceed with the search for entertainment my mind wandered off.
I wasn't sure if Jackson was following me or not, but the loud squeak of sneakers closely following behind assured me that he was indeed still there. Like a dog on a leash. It was kind of amusing really and not to sound like a sadist, but it felt good being in charge like this. It was like the roles were now reversed. I wasn't the one chasing him this time, it was him doing the chasing.
As we neared the gymnasium the sound of music behind the closed doors could be heard. Confused by this I looked at Jackson in question but by the look on his face, he too had no idea what was going on.
Slightly pushing the door open a hand on my shoulder once again stopped me in my tracks. I looked at the culprit with a questionable look laced with irritation to which he flinched back in response.
"I-I just didn't think it was a good idea to go in there. I mean what would we do if we got caught?"
Has this guy always been such a pussy? I mean all we were doing is sneaking into the school gym since we were drawn in by mysterious music coming from inside. It's not like we're actually gonna get eaten alive or anything.
Actually, now that I think about it this is the type of bullshit people in horror films do. They go looking into things that sound ominous and open closed doors which ends up with them getting killed.
Yeah, no. I'm good in that department. After all, they say curiosity killed the cat...
"But I'm not a cat!"
I said out loud without thinking.
"What?"
Jackson confused by my sudden outburst looked at me with uncertainty. I just rolled my eyes at the scaredy-cat and within seconds I opened the door and snuck inside.
Crouching down to avoid being discovered I tiptoed my way under the bleachers, which wasn't necessary since the music was loud enough to cover the squeaking of shoes against polished wooden floors.
Looking back to Jackson who was still standing behind the slightly ajar door I rolled my eyes at his cowardice. Waving him over to come and follow me he just shook his head in denial. Once again I rolled my eyes and hurriedly walked back to where he stood.
I swear I've rolled my eyes more times today than in my entire life. If this goes on I might end up having to chase after my eyes, rolling away from me.
Grabbing onto his sleeve I pulled him out of the hallway and into the gym hall. Ignoring his silent plea to be let free I moved us behind the bleachers.
"I don't wanna do this anymore"
He whispered to me in panic.
"Well, then you shouldn't have followed me out of the classroom. We're here now and there's nothing you can do 'bout it."
Seeing him finally give in I directed my attention forward. I was curious to see what exactly it was that was happening in here and I was not about to leave without finding out! Placing my fingers between the open space of the bleachers I looked between the spacing.
And I must say what I saw was the most horrifying thing in my life.
There standing in the middle of the hall were Mr Dolce and Mrs Owl...flirting!
Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with two individuals flirting even if they're older than the statue of liberty. What I disagreed with is how they went about it. Mr Dolce was known for his infamous basketball shorts that revealed way too much, not to mention the jungle of chest hair always popping out of his collar neck.
So imagine my disgust when I saw him in those disgusting shorts, his butt facing me by the way, and a very handsy Mrs Owl fiddling with the ends of those abominable pants. She curled her finger around the hairs of his legs, too close to his bum by the way.
How can a human being even be so freaking hairy, I mean oh my gosh please just shoot me now! What I thought was the worst thing I had ever witnessed in my life was nothing compared to what I saw next.
Without warning, Mrs Owl grabbed the back of Mr Dolce's neck and pulled his face towards her crashing her lips with his in a violent kiss. She wrapped a leg around his waist and he grabbed a hold of her waist bringing her impossibly closer to his body.
It was like watching two blobfish in heat making out. A disgusting display of two individuals trying to suck off each other's faces.
The smacking of wet lips continuously moving against the other drowned out the music and it just revolted me even more than I already was. I think I'm about to throw up. Holding a hand against my mouth I looked over to my side only to see that my companion was not doing any better than I was.
Jackson stood there eyes glued to the two teachers locked in a passionate embrace, face mortified and eyes glazed over in horror.
We were both scarred for life.
Unable to take any more I got up from my place and hurried out through the double doors.
Out of there and back into the hallway I hunched over holding onto my knees as I gagged in distaste. A few minutes later the sound of the doors opening and then closing was heard as footsteps came walking closer behind me.
Looking over my shoulder I saw Jackson in the very same position as me. It was obvious by the look on his face that he was beyond visually scarred. Face a ghostly white colour and eyes unfocused, yeah this boy could not be saved.
Shivering in disgust I got up from my position and walked to Jackson with careful steps.
"You okay?"
Placing a hand on his shoulder in a weak attempt to comfort him I watched as he slowly raised his head and looked at me with empty eyes.
"My eyes, they burn"
Nodding my head in understanding I held a fist to my mouth to prevent my sobs from escaping my lips. We both could have gone the rest of our lives without seeing that!
Patting his back I waited for him to collect himself
"Come on, there's still more to find"
I said in excitement. Jackson stood up fast at my words and gave me a strange look with one brow raised in question.
"Are you serious right now?! We just witnessed the most inappropriate thing any young teenager with their whole life ahead of them could ever see, all because you were bored and wanted to do something fun! And now you wanna go and look around some more?"
He said all this in one breath, his chest rose and fell in heaps and I stared at him. With a blank look and serious tone, I answered without fail.
"Yeah, there's still time before detention's over and I'm not staying in that room for another thirty minutes. If you want you can go on and climb back up the window and into the classroom without me."
Turning around to another hallway I waved the back of my hand to him without looking back and walked away.
"See ya!"
Passing by empty rooms it wasn't long until I heard familiar footsteps behind me. Smirking to myself I hid my smug look.
"So where are we going this time?"
"The cafeteria, I heard the lunch lady uses expired milk as cheese for lasagne on Tuesdays. Let's go see if it's true."
Smirking evilly and rubbing my hands together my excitement could not be contained. Jackson seemed a bit scared by my behaviour but that didn't bother me in the slightest bit.
Walking into the empty cafeteria I made my way to the back where the kitchen was. Making my way further into the space I saw a pot boiling over a stove, water bubbling up and falling out.
Averting my eyes from the pot I looked over to the fridge opening it to see if I might find something suspicious, my eyes widened at what I saw.
The rumours...they weren't true at all!
Newly bought cheese wrapped tightly in plastic laid inside the fridge amongst freshly bought vegetables. To be honest I was slightly disappointed at that. What a bummer and here I was hoping for some sort of scoop.
"Hey, what are you kids doing in here?!"
The southern accent of the lunch lady scared me near to death. Surprised by her sudden appearance I slammed the fridge door shut and without thought, ran out.
"I heard a voice, what's going o-"
Not giving Jackson a chance to finish I grabbed him by the arm and rushed out the doors.
A spoon flew past me and that just motivated me to run even faster. Bursting through the classroom door the teacher flinched in her seat, the action causing her to fall off it at the same time.
Running to my place I grabbed my bag and slung it over my shoulder.
"It's past three detention's over okay, bye!"
Rushing out of the room I ran out the school doors, jumping in glee as I made my way to my car.
Wait, I forgot Jackson!
Meh, he'll be fine. He's a big boy now.
