Chapter 68

In a normal one on one battle, it was clear to Timothy that Jacob would be more than capable of defeating the level one demon beast because his opponent's strength was based around wrapping itself onto its prey to suffocate it to death. If it was not able to do this, defeat was imminent.

Timothy continued to think about the area that the two were in, and he realized that many of the future opponents they would have here in the Monster's Wasteland, would be using similar tactics. Suddenly, a fear rose in his heart while his brain felt like he could not ask for a better scenario to be forced into.

The reason experts most likely entered to temper themselves, was because maybe the only opponents they had faced were all humans. Sure, cultivators could learn an endless flow of techniques, but in the end, if you only faced others in tournament type matches, you would be just as inexperienced as Timothy and Jacob were. The only difference would be from either cultivation or techniques and trump cards.

More and more ideas started to form in Timothy's mind and he was certain that he needed to explain them to Jacob. "About time you made your way over. The last thing I wanted was for this guy to eat me and poop me out. Do you know how embarrassing that would be?" Jacob shouted towards Timothy as Timothy withdrew a different sword.

Instead of cutting Jacob loose and risking injuring him, Timothy instead chose to cut the demon beast much lower. This also lowered the risk of the demon beast noticing that he was close to it and using the extra moment of time to maneuver away while still holding Jacob with its body.

And just as quickly as the other demon beast fell, the one holding Jacob collapsed due to being cut deeply by one of Timothy's blades. "Do you think it would be worth trying to store this one into your storage ring as well?" Jacob asked as he quickly circulated his Qi to evaporate the slime that was still stuck to his body.

"I do not see a reason to. Just because it is much bigger compared to the one I killed over there, does not mean that it's worth more. We have a lot of space between all of the storage rings, but some demon beasts are worth bringing along with us, while others will not be." Timothy told Jacob as the two continued on towards the mountain range.

As they approached the mountain range, a sour look could be seen on Jacob's face. "You know, if that demon beast was not so sneaky, I could have killed it myself. I hope that if another level one demon beast decides to attack us, that you could allow me to be the one to kill it?" Jacob asked Timothy while squeezing his hands enough to cause them to release a popping sound.

"Jacob, there may be countless chances that you will have to kill many demon beasts including myself. Just because the first battle went that way, also does not mean that I may find myself in a similar situation where I would need to rely on you to figure out how to save me. Just be grateful that there is still room to be improved on concerning our team work." Timothy replied before gesturing for Jacob to stop moving forward.

"From the looks of it, we will indeed have to make our own small home within this mountain. I am just glad that there are not many holes on the mountain where multiple demon beasts could be living. So, do you want to be the one to do it while I keep an eye on our surroundings, or would you rather that I do it?" Timothy asked Jacob with a very neutral tone. It was now dark out and he just wanted to get it over with either way so that the two could begin to relax and plan the year out.

"Let me do it, back in Boulder Village the Patriarch of my clan allowed me to practice a technique for Body Refinement cultivators and I want to see how strong it is since I have not had the chance to actually use it on an object!" Jacob told him as his face lit up. Earlier he felt like a burden to Timothy, but now he had a chance to showcase how strong and capable he truly was!

"Alright, just make it quick. I will give you a bit of room." Timothy replied as he backed up several yards. While Energy Refinement techniques were more direct and accurate based, when it came to Body Refinement techniques, they were only about causing as much destruction as possible in a short amount of time. This is the same reason why military commanders preferred recruiting Body Refinement cultivators because due to their physiques, they could continuously unleash attacks while having the constitution required to sustain more injuries before finally retreating.

As he waited for Jacob, Timothy began taking one more look through his storage rings. Surviving one year would not be difficult when it came to having enough food, the difficulty came from how long the weapons and equipment in his possession would last. Just from the fact that the first battle caused the sword he used to no longer be used caused him to worry.

However, before he could finish, Timothy heard a very large explosion which caused him to jump. Was it a demon beast that had landed a sneak attack on Jacob once again, or could it be something entirely different? Timothy looked over to where Jacob was on his back as if the explosion caused him to fall backwards as the mountain had a massive hole in it and it looked as if it was half way through!
