Both groups were rather comfortable as they continued to pass more and more low leveled soul beasts who were guarding treasures. Neither leaders of the group wanted said treasures, so both Tyler and Timothy distributed them among those who showed the most loyalty towards them. In truth, these were the same treasures that they had already split earlier on, so it was not much of a loss.
However, after slaying nine soul beasts, the group found themselves on the outskirts of an area ahead of them that was covered in black mist. At first, they thought that the black mist was part of the Ancestor's Tomb and the entrance to the inner area where the true battle for the inheritance would take place. From Tyler's uncle scouting, he realized that there were several flags and strange inscription patterns protecting them. The flags were emitting the black mist, which meant that a human cultivator must have laid down this trap.
"It would be strange for us to just all head in at once, but because of our numbers, there should be no reason that all of us would die. There is also a chance that this is only a trap that someone chose to lay down, in order to simply halt the movements of their competitors while they continued on into the inner area. The decision will go to the majority vote." Tyler taking the leadership role told everyone present.
After voting, it looked like everyone was confident in their individual abilities and coupled with those around them, it was undeniable how difficult an opponent would find it to kill any of them if they were to remain close enough to each other. Timothy felt that something seemed off and so he volunteered for his small group of him and the other four to remain outside of the black mist, just in case they were needed.
At first, Tyler stomped his foot in disagreement, but after pondering over it for some time, he thought that it did make sense. Since he had his uncle by his side to protect him, it would be highly unlikely for him to forfeit his life within the black mist. As for those he now had around him, he could make arrangements with those backing them, if he was fast enough to collect their storage rings to prove their allegiance to him and the Blood Ridge clan that they swore.
In Tyler's position, it would be unlikely that a direct descendant would accept the experts present under him since the Blood Ridge clan was an almost unshakably strong clan within Stone Kingdom. And so, Tyler had everyone form a small formation around him while his uncle remained by his side, as his group went inside. Tyler's uncle reassured everyone in both groups that as long as he was able to make it out to the other side, it would be possible to remove this trap, but he would need some time since he was not keen on inscriptions.
After being wished good luck by Timothy and his group, Tyler's group began to head into the black mist area. Unfortunately, upon entering, Timothy and those with him were actually unable to locate where Tyler and his group were within the black mist, as if there were even more hidden traps within the flag formation that blocked out those outside of the area!
This did raise several alarms, but Timothy felt that no matter how the flag formation was able to hide his allies within, being unable to hear any shouts or screams from the area was still impossible. Still, Timothy told his four employees to remain vigilant and alert just in case they needed to head into the flag formation themselves to help backup their friends.
Timothy enjoyed his time traveling alongside Tyler, because Tyler seemed to make his decisions both quickly and efficiently. Timothy still felt that some of his decisions may not have been the best, but at least it showed that Tyler had much more experience compared to Timothy in both cultivation as well as in a leadership type role. Therefore, Timothy continued to soak up some of these traits from Tyler, which made him more efficient at giving orders to those around him.
As time had passed, Timothy and his group began discussing how they all thought it was weird that Tyler's group had yet to call out to them, or to even have made it past the flag formation onto the other side. If one were to make a good estimation, it would have taken them traveling only about ten minutes in order to get through the space, but it had been more than an hour and there were still no signs from Tyler's group at all!
Their thoughts caused Timothy's group to really focus on the black mist area, awaiting for the moment that they would hear the first sign of Tyler's group. Little did they know, inside the flag formation, Tyler's group was currently fighting for their lives! "Damn you Freddy and your stupid Winged Spiders clansmen and your ridiculously annoying techniques!" Tyler shouted as he swung his sword down once more towards the young master of the Winged Spiders clan.
The moment Tyler's group entered into the flag formation, he immediately shouted out in order to test if Timothy and his group could clearly hear them. However, because Timothy did not respond immediately after, Tyler's face became blackened with anger. The reason was, not only were the chances of Timothy's group entering was almost nonexistent, but whoever chose to lay down this trap, was more than likely within the flag formation as well, waiting for them to head forward more into it.
When it came to flag formations, there was always a weak point to them. This was why in most cases in the outside world, flag formations would only be used to help preserve one's life or their groups since no one wanted to enter into a flag formation controlled by an opponent, but its effectiveness would only show its peak, if it was within a very small and condensed space. Unless one had a special ability or technique, a cultivator was unable to fly above or around, which meant that they either were forced to turn back, or head in and hope for the best.
