Slice Of Life (7)

In a great darkness, wind came and went; rain came and went; finally, the sun came. Nti Anem and Ku Jian woke to Ed sleeping under the tree. The sun peeked behind the mountain ahead, and mist covered the plains ahead. The two sat up and looked at Ed sleeping under the tree and then looked at the incomplete bamboo house ahead and sighed. The bamboo had long dried and turned brown. A testament to time passed.

“We should get fresh bamboo; the rains will be here soon.” Nti Anem got up and Ku Jian followed as they made their way towards the forest. As they passed through the woods, Nti Anem collected dew like he had before.

“You say the rains will be here, you said that before.” she said.

“Yes.” he answered.

“So you can tell time in here?” she asked.

“Yes.” he answered.

“Oh.” she muttered as they entered the section filled with bamboo.

“How long were we dead?” she asked and he paused.

“So you could tell he actually killed us, perceptive.” he seemed to praise.
