Maxims POV

My men are beating on Skye, but she's not making any noises or movements. Then out of nowhere she grabs their legs and pulls them to the ground. She gets up and it's as if she wasn't hurt she grabs one of her swords. She looks at me, there's no expression on her face, and she's staring at me with emptiness in her eyes.

I can feel the darkness around her, and rage. It's like she's a completely different person.

One of my men gets up and starts attacking her with his sword, she blocks all of his attacks while she's looking at me. She turns around and with a push of her hand, she sends him flying into the wall. I'm shocked by what just happened. She turns her attention to me, I let go of the girl and pull my sword out. Before I can prepare to fight Skye appears in front of me and knocks me to the ground. She's standing over me pointing her sword at me.

"What are you doing, Skye?" I ask her but she doesn't say anything. I look over at the girl, she's unconscious.

I stare at Skye, the darkness keeps growing it's almost like it's taking over her. I roll away from her before getting up. She runs at me, I dodge her and tackle her to the ground. I get a sharp pain in my chest as soon as I touch her; I look into her eyes, still no emotion or any sign of her.

"What's wrong with you?" I caress her cheek, as she tries to get free. She bites my arm causing me to let go of her, she gets up and grabs her sword. I run and get my sword; I don't want to fight her when she's like this. I look at the girl, she's still unconscious.

Our swords clash, she's stronger than last time and quicker. I struggle just to keep up with her, she lands a few hits on me, but every time she does she's open to an attack. I cut her deep; she doesn't flinch or make any sound. I use my magic and disappear from her sight and merge with the floor.

She stands there; she doesn't move or look around. I move behind her and appear, I grab her arms and pin them to her before throwing her on the ground, the sharp pain from touching her makes me flinch. I'm on top of her pinning her so she can't move. I grab her sword and throw it so she can't use it.

I look around; both of my men are down. I'm alone on this. She's staring up at me, I don't know what I'm supposed to do. "Come on, Skye." She struggles to get free, she's thrashing around. "What's wrong with you?" There's no emotion, it's like she disappeared and a completely different person has taken control of her body. I can't fight her, not like this, I refuse to. I get off of her and lay on the ground face up, she runs to get her sword.

If it'll make you feel better you can kill me, I should've waited as the others did. Your mother would hate me right now; she'd probably lecture me and tell me I failed as a protector. She'd probably say I deserve to die at your hands, to think I was supposed to protect you but I just tried to kill you.

I deserve death, I accept it.

She walks up to me; standing over me I can feel the darkness around her, it's pulsating off her. I close my eyes waiting for her to finish me off.

I hear a thump and open my eyes. I see Skye kneeling on the ground holding her head, groaning, crying, and whimpering. I crawl to her, as soon as I wrap my arms around her the sharp pain is back, but it's worse than it was before.

What's with this pain, I've never felt anything like it before, and it's only when I'm touching her. I let go of her, the pain subsides.

She falls over so she's lying on the ground; she's still holding her head while crying. I think of a way to help her and that's when I notice the girl from earlier is walking towards us. She places her hands on Skye, and her hands start glowing. She stops what she's doing and grabs one of Skye's hands. "It's okay Skye I'm here and I'm fine."

After a few minutes she settles down, it seems like she's sleeping. "Thank you." She looks at me before turning her back to me, understandable. I sit next to Skye and the girl for a couple of minutes before her friends show up. They all look at me and draw their weapons; I quickly stand up putting my hands in the air. "I didn't do this, I swear. I'm a friend of Skye, she needs medical attention."

The group looks at me for a moment; the girl gets up and nods when they look at her. One of the guys from the group picks up Skye. They all start leaving for the exit. "She's going to want to see you, ya know." One of them stops.

"You know, she's going to ask questions."

"I know."

"What am I supposed to say when she does?"

"That depends….are you going to do your job or not?"

My job….her mother tasked me with protecting her, even when she was locked up I kept an ear out to see if the gods were going to harm Skye. When the battle started I tried going to her, but my parents didn't allow me to because I would've been killed. After the war ended I tried looking, but then rumors surfaced, she and her mother were killed. Almost everyone gave up hope, even me. Now I have hope, and I'm going to do my job. "Yes, I will."

"Don't say anything." I nod and am left alone in the cave.
