Chapter 6

“Jake!”. Mrs Roberts called out to her son. Something she rarely does, cos it's either he's asleep before she gets back from work or there's little time left for both of them to talk in the morning due to her work and his school. She's been doing some thinking lately and have come to the conclusion that she'll have to give up overtime so she can have time with her son. She doesn't want him beginning to see her as a bad mother. Not now.

“Jake!”. She called again, having received no response earlier from him.

“Yes Mom, be right there in a moment”. She heard him answer from his room maybe.

“What's the problem Mom, you want me to help you grab something... I could sure help you rush and get them”. She heard him say as soon as he came down the stairs from his bedroom.

“No Son, no, I don't need you grabbing anything for me”.

“Then... What's the matter Mom, is anything wrong?, Are you alright Mom? ”. He kept firing questions after questions at her, which she'd have laughed at if what she was about to say wasn't so serious.

Stifling the laugh she answered him. “No Jake, No, nothing is wrong with me, okay”.

“I'm fine”..

“Don't make this look more awkward for both of us than it already is, just listen to what I'm about to say to you”. She said moving closer to him and placing a hand tenderly on his shoulder.

“Jake... I know I've not been the very best mom to you like you really wanted me to be but... ”

“Mum... What are you saying, you're the very best Mom I'd ever wish to have”. Jake said interrupting his mother.

Now... That word only had her on the brinks of tears, how much of hearing him talk had she missed out on. Now she's gonna make a correction to that.

“Jake... Since your father's been gone, the only thing I do is work myself overtime to forget all about him, and that I've just got to realize is not getting me anywhere near forgetting him. Gerald was a good man, and that's what makes him hard to forget”. She said.

No longer able to contain herself, she burst into tears, sobbing but she continued talking anyway.

“But all I find myself doing is moving myself farther from you”. Wiping a stray tear that was finding it way to her lips.

She hates that she should lose her son too, maybe not physically, but mentally and emotionally.

“You see son, you were right that day when I came into your room the other day and you told me I've not been doing a great job in watching after you, you were right son”. She admitted, not sure if she should continue or hold it all right there.

“You see, I'm gonna change all that dear, so I can spend quality time with you”.

Jake not sure of what to bring out of this emotion burst and his mother's admission and declaration of changing something he didn't quite catch, he just stood there transfixed not knowing what to say. He opened his arms wide to embrace his mother instead.

“It's alright Mom”... He finally found his voice back, breaking the almost deafening silence between them.

“Guess a lil change is all we all need”. He said patting his mother on her back as she sobs.

“Ahem... Speaking of change Jake Roberts, you mind telling me what's wrong with you”. She asked raising her head from Jake's chest, walking down to the the kitchen counter, grabbed herself a napkin and dabbed her face with it.

“Uhm... Nothing is wrong with me Mom”. He said, not sure of what to say to her.

“You know what I'm saying young man, now tell me what I want to hear”. She asked her son, arms akimbo and trying to look stern.

“At least it works in most TV commercials. She thought to herself.

“Mom... I've just been eating a lot lately, and also I've been working out too”. He lied easily.

“Hmmm... How come I've never noticed that before?”.

He was about to add something when he heard the blaring horn of the school bus, he quickly used that as an escape not to answer his mom's questions, he rushed back upstairs, grabbed his backpack and was vaulting back down the stairs in no time.

“Bye mom, see you later”. He finally said as he raced down the lane to the packed school bus.

“Uhm. Teen and their burst of adrenaline”. She thought to herself as she watched her son disappear down the street in the school bus.

“Xavier!, I think you should calm down, your prancing and outbursts of anger isn't getting you any closer to solving this issue”. Emily said trying all her possible best to calm down her raging mate.

“Two scout Lycans dead and a house has been burnt down with the owners still inside, and you ask me to be calm?, Emily!... My father didn't hand over to me to become Alpha so that I can't control this pack, be handed over to me, because he was sure I could manage this pack”. Xavier said, rage radiating all over him.

“Okay Xavier, I think all you need now is to sooth your nerves, why not run it off, maybe that will help”. Emily said standing up from where she was seated, moving closer to him and stroking his chest.

“Yeah, maybe you're right, a long run is all I need”. Xavier said before bounding out of his office window and shifting in his clothes which ripped into pieces saves for his short.

Landing on his paws, he shook his thick furs and bounds deeper into the forest.

Sigh... “This issue of multiple killing is sure getting out of hands and we sure have to do something about it sooner”. Emily said to herself, without the slightest idea of what to do.

“Luke! Gabriel!”. She called both the Beta and the alpha's pack warrior trainer.

“Have your men look into the perimeter and have them report to me what went amiss, see if they can pick up any scent of any sorts, if it's a rogue or other supernatural beings”. She ordered and dismissed them as soon as she finished her orders.

Having giving the orders, she sat down and begin to think really hard about the happenings.

“What could have really gone wrong?”. She thought within herself.

“Is there a way out of all this mess?”

An then she remembered about the mage that was said could deliver them from God knows what has been attacking them.

“But those bunch of twins haven't reported back here”.

“I hope they bring good news when they come here next”. She thought to herself and went to check on her pup.

Meanwhile...

“Good morning class”. Mr Atlas the Geography teacher greeted, one of the funny teachers in school, some students thought what great a surname he had and even teaching something related to it.

“This morning, before I start my class, I'd love to make some announcement”. He said lifting his suspended pants a little bit higher to his belly.

“We all know that each year, some transfer students comes to our very own prestigious school”. He said, beaming from ear to ear

“Now... We have five new transfer students in our midst”. And I'll like you all to give them a warm welcome.

Some students tried to leave their seats to welcome the new students but were stopped by Mr Atlas himself.

“Pa pa pa pa... Don't do that now, you can do that after my class, but I'll also like them to introduce themselves to the class”. He added his smiles not faltering.

Five students stood up from the front of the class, two boys and three girls, the boys looking more embarrassed with color filled on their chicks.

“Hello everyone, my name is Esther Rowley”. A pretty black haired and seeming to be jovial girl started first. Having introduced herself she walked back to her sit.

“I'm Eddie Ashton”. An equally pretty one answered next and also went to her sit.

“I'm Princess Stone”. An equally but grumpy looking girl followed the introduction chain and equally went to her sit.

Now when it got to the turn of the two remaining male, they stared at each other, one nudging the other to go first. Not till Mr Atlas cleared his throat and the tall guy decided to speak.

“Uhmm... My name's Emmanuel Mathewson, nice of you to have us in your school”. He hurriedly said and went to his seat, almost dying of embarrassment.

“And I am Micheal Lowry, and like he said, nice of you to have us in your school, we promise to be of good conduct”. He said, and went silently to his seat.

“Now... That's that, let's all go back to the work at hand, we'll be looking today at the Geographical location of some ancient country...”

Most students didn't even bother listening again, but were more intrigued by the newcomers, stealing glances at them. But one person couldn't concentrate more. And that person is Charles.

“Mate”. His wolf said and it registered in his head too.

He tried all he could do not to get up from his spot to whisk her away and kiss her till his senses become nudged back.
