Skye strolled up to the fire doors that lead to the next auditorium, Damon and Chongan by her side. She had managed to calm herself greatly, pushing past the thoughts that lingered.
"Let me" Damon squeaked, quickly hopping infront to force the metal handle that groaned open.
Chongan rolled his eyes. "Such a gentleman Damon"
Skye laughed, graciously walking through and adding. "What's wrong with that Chongan?" She mocked. "Chivalry is very rare nowadays"
What a cheek. Chongan eyed her with suspicion as she trod through.
"Ha, this is a one off" his gaze fell to Damon. "He's not usually like this I can assure you"
The auditorium was well lit, the podium empty at the raised platform- it was almost identical to the other.
Skye smiled, quickly heading up to the middle row where she became acquainted with her seat; settling nicely. She reached for her laptop in the bag, pulling it and placing it on her lap.
A few people who had come early watched her as Skye took her seat, averting their eyes back to their own work once their attention span gave in.
Skye took no notice, instead, ushering for Damon and Chongan to sit beside her while turning the laptop back on.
The room was silent beside the natural fidgeting, which gave her a chance to think. Bad idea...
Lev was also supposed to be in this lecture, but he hadn't arrived yet, and she was afraid to face him... now that she knew the consequences. What if they locked eyes again, what if he wanted to re-do his introduction? Lev was very much like that, a kind person who always took on too much.
Her thoughts peeked a question in her head that turned her attention to the boys, quickly asking before the bravery slipped from her fingers. "Have you ever loved someone before?"
They froze.
Damon looked taken aback, Chongan's eyes wide at the sudden and very personal question.
Skye gazed at them in silence, hopeful for a response but not expecting one. Embarrassment was eating her up at her own words. Her knee bounced the laptop subtly.
Chongan slowly slid his chunky coat from his shoulders, allowing it to land in his chair while gulping loudly. "Uh... well, I don't really know how to answer that"
"Me either..." Damon chimed in, clearing his throat.
Skye turned her head in shame, muttering. "Sorry, I don't know where that question came from"
She silently chuckled to herself. Her hand cupping her forehead as she breathed.
God how stupid could she be? Of course they wouldn't answer, she'd only met them hours ago.
"It's alright" Damon whispered. "Just caught us off guard is all"
Chongan sat, thinking to himself. The black buttoned top he wore crinkled at his slouching, humming to the question as he thought for an answer. Skye properly looked him over; the way he presented himself, he was very good-looking, smooth skin, beautiful eyes, but most importantly, he had a kind heart.
It reminded her of Lev.
Again and again, replaying over and over in her mind. The tear slipping from his eyes... the touch of his chilly face from the early winter. The look of absolute fear for his life quaking in his eyes.
She wouldn't let him feel that again.
The laptops light grew dimmer on her knees, quickly shaking the mouse pad to awaken her sleepy screen.
"Well, I've never been in love for-say, but I do know what it is like to admire someone so incredibly much that it could count as love"
Skye's smile widened. "It could do Chongan"
Damon looked between the two, sat in between them both as he shrank in his seat.
"I think I have" he uttered, a hand reaching to scratch the back of his head, legs man spreading as all boys did. "But Chongan also has a point"
Sitting up straight and holding the seat in her palms, Skye listened attentively.
Damon almost laughed at her intrigue, and silent plead to explain.
"Love has so many forms that I'm sure everyone has experienced it in some way. Like with your family, or mutual love with your friends- kinda like that"
She sighed, the mention of family... She'd never had one before, the closest thing being the other originals. But even so, they didn't share any divine blood. Entirely diverse in every aspect possible.
Chongan noticed the demeanour change from a side glance; at the mention of family? He wanted to question it but thought not to.
"But there was one person.." Damon began, his voice sounding a little less cheery than normal. It snapped Skye from her own depressing thoughts for a moment, and she focused on him.
His face was silent but his lips soon spoke. "It sounds stupid..." a giddy smile formed. "But it was all the way back in primary"
Skye beamed brightly, leaning closer, edging him on. "Please! Tell me" she begged.
How could Damon refuse that face? He chuckled. "We were good friends, had the same interests, always spoke to each other- but when year 4 came around, someone joined our year..."
Uh oh. This didn't sound like the beautiful childhood love story she was expecting. Even Chongan turned his attention to him, which was rare.
Damon swallowed, his fingers playing with the hem of his shirt. "Let's just say that she kept me as a friend but went after him"
Skye covered her mouth. Usually she would attempt to joke around but with the look on his face, she'd only seen it once before; on herself.
"That guy took everything away from me, even going so far as to stop her from meeting me after our athletics club like we usually would." He shifted in his seat, feeling the eyes of his friends hesitantly.
"And even now- whenever I think of her face I hear that sweet laugh, the beautiful smile that was slightly crooked. She made me so impossibly happy that every time she would leave me to go home, he would trail after her... it hurt to see that"
He remained still.
"I-I'm so sorry Damon, I had no idea" Skye gulped. "I wouldn't have asked if I knew"
Chongan nodded, turning his head and slouching back, face unfazed and unreadable. The opposite of Damon's translucent one. It was almost suspicious.
Damon didn't heed him any attention. "It's pathetic I know, but still, that feeling hasn't left me"
"It's not pathetic!" Skye breathed, slapping his chest slightly; to which, Damon snatched her hand before she could retreat it.
Skye froze, and Chongan snapped his head over, eyes lighting a sceptical fire. What did he think he was doing?
Damon leant closer, her hand hard in his grip; he was stronger than he looked.
The pores on his skin came into view while he leant over.
His eyes glinted.
"Yes it is"
His voice was lightly snarky, but Skye didn't register it.
He was too close for her liking.
"Can you please let my hand go?" She stuttered, hating the fact that her voice was shaky. Did just anyone have that effect on her?
It took a while for him to register her request.
"Oh um.. yea" Damon choked, releasing his hold over her. "Sorry..."
The feeling of her hand in his brought back past memories; smooth silky skin with delicate fingertips. It's like she was blessed with such attributes.
Chongan coughed with an eyebrow raise; directed to Damon who seemed a little flushed.
Skye drew her gaze back to her laptop, lips sealed and nonchalant while she began typing on an empty word document. Still, she could feel Damon's lingering touch hovering like a ghost over her fingers.
She felt strange. It wasn't fearful, but guilt. Like a small incident like this would be betraying Lev.
But... was it so wrong?
Her eyes slipped to Damon discretely, body still focused on her work. He ran a hand through his hair, sighing heavily and closing his eyes.
Being an angel, Skye knew that look well.
She had opened up old wounds.
