Skye sat in silence, the regret crawling up her throat causing her fingers to fidget over the keyboard.
She wanted to clear the air so desperately, that her brain was drumming up excuses. She was relieved however that they didn't ask where the origin of that question lied- she didn't have the energy or nerve for that.
However, even when she thought she kept her mind hushed to the outside world, her face was easily readable; definitely not a well kept secret. Chongan caught on.
He ruffled his hair, finally warming up from the outside, that by the indications of the new comers clothes, had turned to drizzle.
He dropped his head at the rain.
"Why not after our lectures we celebrate the first day back at term? I know a good place" Chongan asked, a tint of mischief lacing his lips.
Skye peeped up behind her screen, ignoring the shuffling of feet in the row ahead of her. Chongan gave her a look of knowing.
He was helping her. A shine of admiration was sent his way as she spoke. "That's a good idea"
Damon stiffened. "I don't know guys, we have lectures tomorrow morning..."
"Who says we don't?" Chongan added, the grin deepening as he turned in his seat properly.
Skye smiled. "Exactly, what's stopping us from having a few drinks and a bit of fun?"
Truthfully, she'd never been out for drinks, it wasn't something regular of an angel. The very idea of swigging down an alcoholic beverage that burned throats for fun was beyond her. But the music, the dancing- that she wanted to try. Her stomach bubbled in butterflies at the thought.
He sighed, hands massaging the bridge of his nose measly. He was trying to remain rational. And failing.
"What would we even be celebrating? More dissertations to complete?" He laughed, grabbing his water from the bag sat between his legs. "Because I don't think that is something worth celebrating over about"
He took a sip, the water calm and refreshing.
Chongan rolled his eyes, nudging him, almost knocking the bottle from his hand. "Come on dude! Stop being so moody."
He glared. Capping the bottle hastily.
Chongan smiled innocently in response, a pout forming. "We're celebrating Skye officially becoming one of us! Dont go and ruin it"
She laughed, Damon joined. A lightheartedness flowing from him now- thank goodness.
"I wouldn't put it quite like that but- sure, why not?"
Skye pleaded with Damon, her hands resting on his arm while she pursed her lips.
Damon sighed a sigh of defeat, grumbling the words. "Fine, but only a few"
Chongan cheered, eyeing Skye happily. "You're gonna love it"
She had no doubt in her mind that she wouldn't.
"You're paying Chongan, seeing as its your idea"
Skye nodded complyingly for him, shooting him an apologetic look after. Damon chuckled at her excitement; his gaze was coy as she clapped her hands like a little child.
He couldn't help the smile that wondered to his face. She acted like her little sister at times.
"It's decided then" Chongan chimed. "We leave after this"
Sitting idly by in a lecture for two hours was a lot harder than she originally thought, especially with the newfound activity she would dive head first into later on.
The essay? That was long gone- drawn out from her mind like notes from an instrument. How could she concentrate on something so mundane when dancing, music, and all sorts were in store for her?
Perhaps she was getting slightly carried away, but this would be the first. And she hoped it wouldn't be the last.
Although, one thought did distract her.
Lev never showed. Neither did Jax.
Twiddling her thumbs became a habit whenever she grew nervous; her eyes pinning the door, wishing for it to open and for a certain brown haired male to walk through; cheery eyed as ever.
But he didn't.
Worry snuck over her shoulders. The mini discussions the trio held were phasing past her. Where was he?
Eventually, time passed where Skye could not remain still anymore; no sign of Lev.
She was really concerned now. Had fate got to him already?
Oh god- the thought made her sick to the stomach, actually reeling forward slightly and cupping her mouth in alarm.
The taste of fear ran limber over her tongue, that with each swallow grew worse.
Her hands grew clammy, and her mind was riddled. She couldn't fail.
Never.
Abruptly standing, Skye darted from the auditorium, repeatedly blocking out the thoughts that she could've failed.
Eyes followed her with curiosity as her name rang from behind her.
Chongan was calling her, eyes sending a silent plea as he looked at her with a face full of concern that she felt guilty for looking back. Baffled gasps surrounded her, all shocked as to why someone would just charge out of their seat. Was she sick?
But he wasn't the only one calling her name.
"Skye! Remain in your seat until the lecture is over!" The lecturer spat, fixing his posture while glazing her with daggers for eyes.
His glasses only enhanced the look, but she had no time to waste; swallowing the threats of expulsion, and making a run for it.
The stairs thundered under her mountainous steps while her face drew one of grave panic.
"Skye! What is the meaning of this?"
He was continued to be ignored while she swore, shoving into the doors and ran like mad down the empty hallways.
Both Damon and Chongan stood up in her wake, mouth agape in confusion. What was happening? What caused this? Who runs from a lecture hall?
There had to be something, something must've startled her terribly...
He gazed down, her bag remained discarded and her laptop, open on an unfinished essay.
Why did she leave that here? But before they could even think of following, a voice was raised at them.
"Sit back down now! The pair of you"
Their gaze snapped down the auditorium, limbs frozen. "If you wish to join Skye down the expulsion path then by all means, follow her"
Shit. They didn't have a choice, well, at least not an easy one. So gritting their teeth, they sat back down, hesitantly and slowly, drawing their focus to the fire doors left slightly ajar.
Damon's knee rattled against the edged of his chair. "She better get her ass back in that seat or that idiot would find herself no longer attending Kensington University of medicine." He gulped to Chongan, muttering further to himself.
"Especially on the first dam day..."
