I had just sent the text when Jessica approached my desk, looked me dead in the eye and said, "Hey, Stacy, I saw you texting someone named Mason, who is that, a boyfriend?"
"Uh, no, he's a childhood friend of mine," I replied as she rolled her eyes. She must not have believed me.
"Oh, well, in that case, stay the hell away from Eric!" She told me before walking off with a flip of her hair. I watched her walk out of the classroom and down the hall.
That was weird, I thought as the teacher started the lesson. After class, I looked at my phone and found that Mason hadn't responded, so I tried to call him. No answer. I started to worry, he had never gone this long without answering me before. Even when I would text him at 2 in the morning with a nightmare, he would answer. I called my mom, and when she answered, I said, "Hi, Mom, Mason's not answering any of my texts, what do I do?"
"He's probably just busy, don't worry about it, Sweety!" She replied, in a way that said she had no idea why I was worried in the first place.
"Okay, Mom, love you, bye!" I said, not wanting to argue with her and explain why I'm so worried. I hang up before she has time to respond and go to my last class of the day. When I get there, I see Eric sitting in a seat with an empty one next to him. I sit down in the empty seat and greet him, trying to hide my worry for Mason.
"Hey, Stacy!" He said, not noticing my worried look. At first I thought I was doing pretty good at hiding it, but I was wrong.
"Hey, Eric, something weird just happened last period," as I said this, I noticed that his mouth started to curve into a worried frown. I must not have been hiding it very well.
"Are you okay? You look worried," he said.
"Yes, I'm fine!" I say, unconvincingly.'
"Are you sure?" He said in a way that makes me want to blurt it all out right then and there.
"No! I'm texting Mason over and over again, but he's not answering! And Jessica is telling me to stay away from you and she's calling Mason my boyfriend!" I say, crying.
"Woah, that's a lot, calm down it's okay," He said as he took me into his arms.
"Sorry," I say after I calm down, "I didn't mean to yell," I add, pulling away.
"Don't worry about it! You're fine," He said as the bell rang for class to start. The teacher walked in and we separated the rest of the way and sank into our seats. After the class, we exited the school building, after stopping by our lockers.
"Would you like to come over?" I offered Eric when I was finished at my locker.
"Sure! That sounds great!" He answered, almost instantly. We left school and started to head out to my house, "Hey, I gotta make a quick stop real quick, is that okay?"
"Yeah, i don't mind," He answered as we continued to walk to my house. We stopped a house away from mine, and I went up the driveway. I knocked on the door, and Mason's mother answered, "Hello, Mrs. Figg! Is Mason home?"
"Yes, mason is home. Would you like me to get him?"
"Yes, please," she called down Mason and as he was coming down the stairs, his eyes went glassy and he fell. He fell down the stairs. I rushed inside and caught him before he hit the floor and I hugged him and cried. We rushed him to the car, and as we were getting in, I spotted Eric. He was looking at me with a worried expression on his face. I ran to him, gave him a quick, "I'm scared" hug, and said, "I'm so sorry, but I don't think we'll be able to hang out today, Mason doesn't look too good, to say the very least. I'm sorry, Eric."
"It's okay, I understand! Don't worry about me, okay?"
"Okay, thank you!" I called out as I ran to the car and got in the front seat.
