Chapter 24: Meeting family and disasters

When I wake up I see that my dad is holding Jaxon and staring down at him in amazement while Danny is holding Meanna. I watch them for a while before my dad looks up and notices me watching.

"Morning sleepyhead," he says, coming over and kissing me on the forehead.

"Hi daddy," I reply sleepily. "What time is it?"

"It's about five," he tells me.

"I should probably feed them again," I say to no one in particular. I motion for my dad to hand my baby boy over. He gives him to me and he whines a little trying to get settled after the sudden movement.

"Shh, it's okay buddy," I bounce him a little while I reach for a blanket to cover my top half while I feed him. He latches on immediately, making me smile slightly. "Have you slept at all babe?" I direct this question to Danny and he says, "Only for like two hours. I didn't really want to take my eyes off of them."

"How long have you been here daddy," I ask my dad.

"I've only been here for about an hour, give or take," he says and I give him a small nod.

Once Jax stops sucking, I put the goods away and put a burp cloth over my shoulder to burp him.

"Has Amy or Ben come in at all," I ask them while patting on Jaxon's back. He lets out a big burp, making us laugh.

"Yeah, Amy came in just to check on your vitals and the twins," Danny tells me trading me Meanna for Jaxon so I can feed her.

"She also left you some meds to take when you got up," my dad adds in. He hands them to me and I take them immediately.

I repeat the same actions with Mea that I had with Jaxon but on the opposite boob.

Ben comes in to see how I am and he brings in a few people with him.

"Hey guys," I say to Ben, Beth, and Ariel. My dad kisses me on the forehead and heads out to find my mom and go home.

"Hey Anna, how are you feeling," Ben asks coming to check the machines.

"I'm okay, just in a little bit of pain. I just took the pain medicine," I inform him.

"How much pain on a scale of one to ten," he asks.

"Maybe between a six and a seven," I tell him, putting Mea over my shoulder to burp her.

"If you need us to up the dosage on the medicine let us know," he tells me.

"I'm okay for now," I say. "Thank you."

I hand Meanna to Ariel who is tapping her foot impatiently.

"You're welcome sweetie," he tells me and leaves us to it.

"Danny quit hogging him and give him to Beth," I tell him.

"But I don't wanna," he pouts. I give him a look and he sighs handing him over. He comes over and kisses me before settling in the chair by my bed.

"You should get some sleep," I tell him.

"Mkay," he says already laying his head down on the bed. He's out like a light, snoring softly.

"Have y'all been home at all," I ask the girls.

"Not yet. We wanted to see them before we left," Beth replies.

"Bri and Jer are coming in after us and then we're all leaving together. Justice went home so she could get some sleep, but she said she would be back later today," Ariel tells me. I nod my head and just stare at them interact with my babies. After they left, the boys came in to see the twins.

"Hey guys," I whisper, trying not to wake Danny.

"Hey sweet cheeks," Brian says, coming over and kissing the top of my head. He then makes a beeline to Jaxon, being extra careful not to hurt him.

"Hey Anna," Jerrico says, kissing me on the cheek.

"Hey, Jer, go ahead and get Meanna," I tell him. He gives me a big smile and goes pick her up.

They spend their time with them and then head out to leave with the girls. Everyone's parents come in and see the twins before it's just me, Danny, and the twins left in the room.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's about ten in the morning and Justice along with her grandparents are here visiting.

"They're so tiny," she says, looking down at Mea.

"You used to be this small," Grandpa Charles tells her, holding Jax.

"Lies," she says jokingly making us all laugh at her.

Danny and Grandma Martha are sitting on the couch watching TV. I'm so thankful for everyone I have in my life. These babies are going to be so loved and spoiled.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We've been in the hospital for about ten days. Doctor Stringer wanted to make sure I was all healed up as well as the babies in perfect health, especially Meanna because of that delivery scare. I was able to have my first shower a couple of days ago and it was great. I hated the sponge baths, it made me feel like I was five again.

"You'll be able to get checked out in a few hours, but make sure not to overdo it when you get home," Doctor Stringer tells me. "We also want to do a few more tests on Meanna to make sure everything is one hundred percent since that little hiccup during delivery."

"Yes ma'am and okay," I tell her with a salute. She gives me a laugh and heads out of the room. I'm feeding the babies right now and then we're gonna get ready to head out.

A nurse comes in who looks oddly familiar comes in to take Mea for her tests.

"Have we met before," I ask her curiously.

"Hmm, maybe in passing," she tells me. Something feels off but I just assume it's the anxiety of having her out of my sight.

"That's probably what it is," I say giving a small laugh and reluctantly handing my baby over to her.

"Don't worry, she's in great hands," she reassures me. I give her a small smile and she leaves with my baby girl. After she's gone for about ten minutes, another nurse comes in.

"I'm here to take Meanna for her last-minute tests," she tells me with a smile.

"Another nurse just came and took her," I tell her confused.

"That's strange," she says. She goes over to the rolling computer and types something. "Did she scan your bands?"

My face pales and I start to hyperventilate.

"No she didn't," Danny tells her, trying to calm me down and get me to breathe.

The nurse runs out and the next thing I hear is her voice over the intercom.

"We have a Code Pink, I repeat we have a Code Pink," she says.

"Oh god, I think I'm gonna pass out or throw up," I say dry heaving.

"What's a Code Pink," Danny asks confused.

"Missing baby," I tell him in between gasps for air. I see him visibly pale as well. He pulls out his phone and presses a few buttons before putting the phone to his ear.

"Greg, sir," he says, "Meanna is missing, some lady pretending to be a nurse came in and took her." He listens for a moment to what my dad is saying, looking at me the whole time. It was a smart idea for him to call my dad as he has connections through his business and the gang.

"Yes sir...Okay see you soon," he says hanging up. "Your dad will be here soon. We're gonna figure this out, baby." He comes over and kisses my forehead while we wait for news from someone, anyone.
