A father's wrath (2)

"Are you going to your place or your mother's?" He asked to stop her from saying anything else about Santino and his twisted family.

"I'd like to be on my own tonight." She answered, meaning she was going to her apartment, but he knew she had said she wanted to be alone deliberately for him to hear. She was basically warning him against setting foot at her unit and making a home out of it like he had been doing every other day.

He ignored the hint. "You didn't eat much at the banquet. Would you like to order takeout? I could cook something for you as well if you want." He offered.

"I appreciate it, I really do."

"Don't say it." He stopped her from speaking any further.

She nodded, even though she knew she was doing the wrong thing. Perhaps spending the night together had given him the wrong idea and the sooner she let him know it had not changed a thing, the better it would be for both of them.
