Everyone's Been Somewhere

After I finished eating lunch, I looked at the bill and nearly had a heart attack. After all the aggravation that the employees at the Northspring Country Club had caused, they should be the one paying me. Not the other way around. And not such an exuberant amount for just lunch. Leila had plenty of money to pay it. In fact, this was nothing for her, but it was the principle.

I still left a generous tip, paid the bill, and headed out.

"Wait!" the woman behind the counter stopped me. When I turned, a broad smile spread across her face. "I wanted to give you the good news! Your application has been approved! Congratulations, and welcome to the Northspring Country Club."

Obviously, knowing I was meeting Amelia Clark had changed her mind.

One corner of my lips curled into a knowing smile. "Thanks, but no thanks." I smiled sweetly. "After the treatment I received here today, I wouldn't join this place on a bet. But thanks, anyway."
