We briskly walked home as the street lights were beginning to power up and glisten. The path I had created earlier certainly helped with our timeliness but we were already late so it didn't matter much.
I scanned the area in front of us for any shortcuts or dangerous things that may be waiting in the shadows, it was all clear.
Sarah skipped away, humming to a song she had made up on the spot.
She turned to me, smiling, "Remember the time Old Man Johnson claimed he saw Bigfoot? This is not a big deal Superboy. I promise."
She helped calm my nerves as I thought about how I would avoid punishment from my Dad for being late.
Not to mention the scariness that awaited if Old Man Johnson had already informed everyone of what he saw in the woods.
We high fived as Sarah skipped to her home on the corner and I slowly walked up the porch to the red front door of mine house.
My Dad was waiting at the stairs with a scowl on his face, "You were out with that Jenkins girl all day. Did anything happen that I need to know about?"
Attempting to redirect his mind with my abilities, "How was your day Dad? Did you see that red corvette go by earlier?"
He loved corvettes, especially the really loud ones.
He touched his neck with his index and middle finger from his left hand. This is what he taught himself to avoid being coerced by any of my abilities.
Even angrier now, "Nice try son. You know where to go…or do I need to take you there?"
Dad had built a steel room, four feet by four feet with a two foot ceiling. It only opened from the outside and there was no light, bedding, or anything.
I walked slowly to the anti-abilities box and locked myself in. Steel was the only thing that could deactivate my abilities
It was going to be a long cold night, however, it was one of the best days of my life.
"Using abilities in the open can be a dangerous action."
