Chapter 12
The breakfast table was silent. The parents were aware of Avalyn’s bug-eyed staring at Mikhail. By the faces he was making at her, she couldn’t decide if she had dreamed something wild last night, or if she indeed had discovered Mikhail was a werewolf.
“Why do you keep staring?”
Of course she didn’t miss her chance, “You’ve got something on your face, just there.” She narrowed her eyes in feign study of him, “Is that rabbits fur?”
He wiped at his face, glaring at her, “Why would I have rabbits fur on my face? No. What is the matter with you?”
It didn’t answer her question, she sunk in her chair and carried on not eating.
“By the gods, stop being so fucking odd. You’re making everyone uncomfortable.”
Avalyn giggled dementedly. Her father shifted in his seat worriedly. She glared over at him and he opened his mouth to comment but Elise interjected, “Leave her alone.” Her tone brooked no allowance for argument.
