Spiritualist Ranks

"Sir! Sir! There has been a break in in the center of Spirit Mountain's Sect District! Some terrifying insect that's at least in the god rank left nothing but bones in the greenhouse!"

Long San rushed to the Headmasters' office in the center of Spirit Mountain while he overheard a guard talking to the headmaster of the city mountain's government. The government was supposed to be governed neutrally, and not affected by the Sect disputes that were common in Spirit Mountain, but obviously in every government there was some form of corruption. Long San, was well aware of how corrupt his government was personally, and even in his last life knew that all the members of the headmaster's office were in the pocket of the White Sect.

"In the Greenhouse! There was a powerful spirit pet that snuck in!"

"What? Impossible!" Three men that had rushed to check the Green House and that were dressed in orange warriors garbs immediately walked into the governors office at the same time as Long San. They looked exasperated, and had chased after him as quickly as possible to get Long San to not report it, but it was alas already too late. "We would've seen their corpses through the gate! He must be lying! And damn it! Why aren't you at the parade Long San? Today is a great day for your father!"

"I-I was behind on feeding the spirit pets sir!" Long San bowed with a slight smile on his face. "You-you should go see it! He ate even the Blue Neck Dragon! It's blue scales are all over the place!"

The Blue Neck Dragon was one of the most powerful spirit pets that was currently in spirit mountain. The White Sect, the Blue Merchant Sect, the Grasping Sect, and the many other sects on the mountain would be thrilled to have a spiritualist that earned its affection.

When the children went to the greenhouse at age 12, they'd get their first spirit pet. It had been at that age that only the Silver String Insect approached Long San.

Your first spirit pet chose you, and not the other way around, which was also the case for higher level spirit pets. When he reached an overall evaluation of an ascending spiritualist, the second rank of spiritualists or humans with spirit pets, he also would've gotten a chance to get another spirit pet from the greenhouse where he worked. However, long story short, because his silver string Insect was one of the weakest types of spirit pets, it have to reach level 40 first before he could get another spirit pet.

However, now that he had a omnipresent spirit pet, even though it was level 1, he could already get a third spirit pet! This was the difference between ranks!

The ranks for all beginning spiritualists were the nascent rank, next the Ascending rank, and the Dauntless rank, followed by the soul rank, the spirit rank, the peakless rank, and the masters rank.

Each rank was separated by 10 levels, so nascent rank spiritualists changed to ascending rank spiritualists at level 10, and peakless changed to masters at level 90.

Once again, you leveled these up by feeding your spirit pets the foods that they required, and unsurprisingly the omnipotent rank spirit pets usually had the hardest types of spirit food to acquire. Of course, there were some exceptions like none other than his Lord Grey Caterpillar!

right now, after his Grey Lord Caterpillar had eaten over 10 spirit pets, it was already over level 15! It had leveled up like crazy by devouring those spirit pets!

Long San trembled and felt a power growing inside of him. He snickered a little bit while the Head Master walked to the exit of the office.

"If what you're saying is true Long San, the Spirit Pets this year must not be the insects that we expected. Only Dark Angel type spirit pets are smart enough to go after our source of power. It's strange. When we did the survey of which spirit pets that were the most numerous in the Spirit Mountains we were sure it would be an insect raid this year. Anyways, no need to stay here, go to the parade."

"I'll do just that," Long San bowed and watched Headmaster Lu leave the office. He was a kind man that trusted Long San more than most in the village because he took care of his son in school as a child.

Headmaster Lu was a level 75 spiritualist with 5 spirit pets, one of the strongest in all of the Spirit Mountains, and rather well respected by the 10 clans, which is why he was given a spot in the government. However, his child was the exact opposite of him! He didn't get chosen by a single spirit pet, and Long San had to protect him! Of course, he also sensed something odd today when Headmaster Lu kept talking to him about the parade. Did he want him to go there to see his father die? After all, sometimes the nicest people were really wolves in sheep's clothing!

'I still remember how to break locks.' Long San walked over to Headmaster Lu's desk and created a silk string from his silver string insect that soon turned into a key. 'You may be the weakest spirit pet I ever owned, Silver String Insect, but your silk can take almost any shape. Hope you don't mind me using you to check out what's in this mans desk.'

Long San opened the drawer in Headmaster Lu's desk and instantly looked at all the papers as quickly as he could. With a frown on his face, he pulled out a small little amulet.

'No way. Isn't this an amulet from the Black Heart Palace? Why would Head Master Lu Have this?'

'No way, hahaha! Did he promise to do some nefarious deeds for them as long as they find a way to make his son stronger? Is he the one responsible for my father's death? What a sinister fellow! Acting nice to me for all those years only to be responsible for my father's death.'

The Black Heart Palace was one of the most evil organizations that existed. They not only performed assassinations, but regularly took wives and children from their husbands in order to use them to get stronger. They, however, also did other heinous things. They probably promised Headmaster Lu to give his son a divine ranked spirit pet if he got them the body of 3 level 40 men.

His father, who happened to be level 40, would meet that requirement. Yet, that didn't explain why he'd wait to kill him till he showed up.

'No way? Is headmaster Lu, the old pervert, upset that I am seeing An Ai? I always noticed when we were in class that he stared at her weird.' Long San had noticed Head Master Lu was an extremely weird fellow when he had to attend the governments mandatory schooling for 5 years. 'So, there is a two reasons he's doing this, but don't think that I'll let things be so easy for you now. Ugh, if only I could poison you with my Grey Lord Caterpillar, but that would be too easy."

Long San closed the door and walked out, noticing his father passing by with a smile on his face in the lantern covered streets. "Hahaha! Well, don't worry, Headmaster Lu! YOu'll be getting just what you deserve!"
