Grey Lord's Needle

Long San went to the watering well where the Spirit pets normally came to drink and took out his Grey Lord Caterpillar.

It was now roughly half a meter long as opposed to when it was only 3 centimeters when it was level 1. At level 20 now, it was quite a powerful insect. He smiled while it appeared. Now that he was in a safe area, he could test what his two new abilities were!

There was a device called a spirit ability detector, that looked like a round dome. With the flat side of the dome facing towards his spirit cavity, he pushed it gently against him to see what readings he got.

Obviously, he could also get the Grey Lord Caterpillar to tell him what his abilities were, but it was busy poisoning the water source. A few level 50 spirit pets were nearby sleeping soundly. He came at the perfect time. Most of the spirit pets in this area were nocturnal, so when he came back the next morning, he should have no problem finding quite a few carcasses.

[Grey Lord Shot - level 10 skill of the Grey Lord Caterpillar.]

[Shoots a poison arrow out of the user's hand mixed with the Grey Lord Caterpillar's poison. Most spirit pets below level 30 will lose 10 percent of their agility. Has a small chance of inflicting a lethal poison that will kill most targets if under an hour if antidote isn't administered.]

[Grey Lord antidote - level 10]

[Cure for the Grey Lord's poison]

[Grey Lord's needle - Level 20 skill]

[Create a 1 meter long needle that can be thrown like a spear at targets. It's made from the Grey Lord Caterpillars outer shell. Is as strong as steel, and can pierce through flesh like ease.]

'Basically, these attacks are only to kill. I won't be able to use these in tournaments even if I get into a good school.' Long San somewhat complained. "All it's good skills arent' going to happen until at least it gets to level 40. Such a pain."

Long San watched the pond turned a dark hue of purple before he recalled the Grey Lord Insect. He sighed. If only it was three years in the future, he'd be able to get his Dark Angel Spirit Pet.

"Well, tonight is the day of the party where I'm guessing they want to execute my father. Anyways, at least when I Come back tomorrow, I'll have more food for you Gal." Long San named his the Grey Lord Caterpillar Gal. "Anyways, I guess, the best thing to do now is test my strength. After all, I imagine having an Omnipotent Spirit Pet didn't hurt my body!"

Long San went to the training square in Spirit Mountain.

There were hundreds of Young Spiritualits here at various training machines. Some were lifting weights, and others were using spirit machines to test their reflexes, speed, and power.

Spirit machines were pretty much technology that relied on the cores of spirit pets to work. Unlike generators, spirit cores didn't need momentum to create energy. The momentum was created by something called spiritual energy.

Spiritual energy was sort of like this ephemeral energy in the air that could be absorbed by spiritualists and spirit pets alike. Once it was absorbed, a human being could turn from a mortal into an immortal. From someone weak, into someone terrifyingly strong.

However, there was certain limits inside of every human being. For one, you could only have 10 spirit pets unless you were gifted with a special type of spirit cavity in your spiritual core. Long San, himself, only had an average spiritual cavity. Of course, that had probably changed now that he had an omnipotent spirit pet!

The way spiritual cavities got measured was by a device called a soul depth meter. It checked for the size of your spiritual cavity by sending spiritual energy into your spiritual core and testing how much of its total space were you using.

If you were using 100 percent of it, you were considered on the track to immortality! Almost nothing would stop you from reaching above level 100 and gaining and immortal body!

Those who made it passed level 100 were called immortal spiritualists. There less than 10 of them, and most of them stopped caring about humans and lived in the mountains. They were all trying to reach above level 100 and get to level 150 or even higher! Some said at level 250, you could even ascend to a higher realm!

"Let me check my spiritual depth first," Long San snatched the device off the wall and snuck outside to check himself in private. "If it's at 60 percent, I can probably get a third spirit pet. Then, and only then, will I perhaps be able to get into a good academy!"
