Chapter Fourteen

Chapter 14

Demitria Frostine

Right away, she struck the lasso on the ground and unleashes a wave from the underground. The water held my ankles and pulled me to her. As I reach her place the wave carried me up, facing her smirking face.

The feeling was like I was being locked on a wall but it's water this time. The current was strong but I need to get out of here as soon as possible.

The only way I could get away from this kind of grip is if I could travel from one place to another or even creating a portal is still considered. But doing that needed more strength and power and my training with Lorcan didn't even go there. I just know the basics.

"Give up," She said and point her finger down to the ground as if telling me that she'll let go if I surrender.

The grip was getting tighter, and it slowly encircled my neck and pulling it towards the back. My hands and feet were also being pulled in a different direction.

"Argh!" I must not give up. This will not be the end.

Suddenly, when my visions started to become white and the grip was starting to loosen up. Smoke started to occupy the field and the water from her lasso starts to freeze.

By the second, I felt so so light. I got out from the water grip and I was also able to turn her power into mine. I can now control the water she summoned by transforming it into ice.

I raised both of my hands and aims them at her. She was running away trying to dodge the attack but a huge icicle started to emerge from the ground and created a barrier, surrounding us.

There's no way out.

She looked at me and smiled. Without saying any word, a small circle of water was formed under her and she disappears in a blink of an eye. She was nowhere to be found but she's letting me hear her laugh. She was playing with me.

"Do you think you can beat me that fast?" She asked.

"Coward," I said trying to locate where her voice was coming from. Seems like she was on the other dimension but her ability allows her to still have a connection here.

The laughter disappeared and all I can hear was the whipping sound of the wind as a snowstorm was slowly formed on our battlefield. It is getting a bit colder but as it gets colder I could feel more power that I think I might use for this battle. I have a bad feeling about her so underestimating her might not help me.

"Ahh!" I screamed as I felt a sting on my left arm. I checked it just to see that it was long and deep wound out of her lasso.

She was good at teleporting. She can easily open and close a portal even before I could catch her. I'm still not familiar with sensing an opening portal, Lorcan even said before that I need to enhance my senses for they will be helping me survive any battle.

"It is painful?" She asked.

I didn't give her the answer she wanted. It was painful, I didn't know what kind of lasso she was using. It felt like I was in a collision with lots of electric eels.

"I command the ocean and the species down there. They help me in every battle," She exclaimed.

She kept hidden and then appears when I cannot sense her. I did nothing but freeze the blood and stop it from flowing. I have to think about how I can catch her, but how? My senses are weak and I'm still not familiar with teleporting and portals.

"I don't need explanations, Tallulah. Show yourself!" I shouted.

"Calm down, We will get there," She said and burst into laughter.

Her laugh was making me more angry and mad. I do not want to waste more time but her hiding in other dimensions is making my range.

"Coward!" I shouted.

In a second, I felt a whip on my back. The force was too hard the some of my flesh and blood was torn out and fell on the snow. I fell on my knees as I felt a bite-like pain.

"Oh, sweety I am not!" She said and appeared in front of me.

She appeared in front of me and left me a smirk that she knows I will never forget. Her moves were so fast that I didn't expect her hands were already kissing my jaw.

I yelped in pain but before I could react, she jumped on my shoulders and choked me using her lasso. I could feel her shifting her weight on her back. She pulled the lasso and I fell on the ground facing down with a loud thud.

Blood starts to flow from my mouth but I rose and continued parring with her attacks. But her next move was unexpected and it sent shivers in me.

"N-no..." I uttered.

As I felt her spear went through my body piercing every part of me, I looked at her victorious face. She deepens the spear and let go when I already fell on my knees.

"I told you, I am not that easy."

R-river... I am... s-sorry...

As I was kneeling, I kept remembering my promises to myself and my brother. I lost all the motivation that I have seen a spear pierced to my body. Who knows what will happen to me after this battle. Lorcan's mother might have something against me now and push me out of the academy.

Failing to finish the battle might means that the chance of finding River is lower than before. The snowstorm started to fade and the ocean of smoke is slowly vanishing in the air.

I can see her feet walking towards me at a leisure pace. She matched my height as I was kneeling so she knelt in front of me.

"You know what, you are still amazing. Don't be encouraged that you have lost in this battle." She said as she gently taps my shoulder.

"T-they might remove in the a-academy. If that happens, h-how could I find my b-brother n-now?"

"Do not forget that the headmaster is still on your back. Just because you have lost in our battle, it does not mean that you are feeble to continue your journey here."

I looked at her and smiled. She was right. Maybe this will not be the end. Her words even made me think of different ideas that I might do if I got kicked out of this place.

"I apologize for doing this, but I have to." She was about to take out all my flags stick to my uniform when a loud siren rules the battlefield.

We shockingly look at each other's eyes, the siren only means that there are only 10 players on the field and the first round of the annual battle of elements ends here.

"How lucky?" She said and giggled.

"Do I still look lucky if a spear is pierced to my body?"

"Oh, I almost forgot about that. Here, let me help you." She put her right hand on the end of the spear and her left hand was on my shoulder.

She closed her eyes and murmured something. The next thing I knew was the spear started to liquefy and turns into water droplets. The droplets were floating in the air and entered her body.

The spear was gone but the wound was left and made me lost a lot of energy. I leaned on her hands on my shoulder as I start to freeze the huge wound on my stomach.

"Here, let me help you. I deeply apologize for doing that on you," She said and took my hand and put it on her shoulder. She guided me to stand and helped me walk back to the place where the guards would pick us up.

We were the last to reach the place for I was badly injured with our fight. Tallulah never left me and her patience was long enough for a long walk while carrying an injured person.

Everyone was already there and I am so happy to see that Camellia was here although Craig didn't. When she is coming, she immediately helped Tallulah on carrying me. Her eyes show worries but I know she was happy that I was included in the last ten players.

"This will be a long storytelling after the battle," Camellia said.
