Chapter 38 Blood and glory

The soldiers roared with anger. They raised their arms and marched towards the city with solemn faces. They were trembling with fear, but their motivation was strong enough to cast out that fear from their brain. They remembered their family members' faces and that gave them this incredible willpower.

Arthur pulled down his hood and signaled the colonel to come.

" Remember don't let them die. Just stall until I got control of the base."

He said lightly. The colonel saluted and retreated to the tent to relay his commands. Arthur sighed and looked at Tanya who was standing next to him. She was stretching her muscles to relax her tense body.

" You don't have to force yourself."

He said with a calm tone. Tanya hit his shoulder slightly as she sneered.

" Are you gonna hog all that excitement for yourself? Don't leave me."

Arthur curved up his mouth while putting on his gears. He turned around and grinned.

" Don't die."

He said gently. He knew he couldn't change her mind easily because she was stubborn as a mule when she decided to gamble. She was the kind of woman who would never retreat in front of the fire.

Tanya laughed softly.

" That's my line, big guy."

She said playfully. She was both worried and excited to blow these guys up. Her big eyes were focused on Arthur's serious face. Honestly, she hated this man who always carried a huge burden on his shoulders. He always lied to her even though he was hurt. That's why she wanted to share his burden this time as a comrade in arms.

Swoosh*

Arthur turned invisible after turning on his suit stealth function. He ran to the battlefield with incredible speed thanks to his almost inhuman body which reached the human limit. Even so, he was making sure that he would avoid the bullets or shells because he is a mortal now. He will die like others if he is hit by something like a bullet.

He quickly zigzags all way up to the outer edge of the city though it took a few minutes to reach here. Arthur hid behind the wall as he gazed up at the barricade with a cold look. He scanned the field and found a few mines buried under the ground, but he wasn't here to disarm these mines.

Arthur bit his lips and ran to the barricade. His nose was obstructed by the gun shooting and artillery firing noises. He danced on the battlefield with quick moves.

Bang*

He was grazed by one of the bullets. Arthur felt the impact on his shoulder. It hurt a lot albeit his bulletproof suit. Arthur clenched his fists as he dashed towards them without any fear on his face. He was accustomed to this kind of pain through the years. Heroes bleed for their goals that were his motivation.

Bang*

Finally, he reached the first-line defense area. He smashed into one of the houses his face was pale. He was heavily injured by this shower of bullets. Fortunately, there would be fewer shootings after this line. Hence, he braced himself and walked out of the building with staggering steps. His body was aching all over.

Meanwhile, the army was attacking the city with continuous barrages. The colonel was using Arthur's initial tactics as a base tactic in this war. He used Abrams to distract the enemy's armored units as his infantry tried to push the enemy back because he wasn't that confident in the space weapons. He knew their powers were immense, but it will some time to reload itself. Therefore, he was trying to corner enemies in one area and deal them a heavy blow in one attack.

Crush*

One of the majors came into the tent with a bloody face. His voice trembled with sadness.

" We lost 5th corps. They bravely saved 2nd and third corps from the ambush."

The Colonel's eyes turned bloodshot as he turned around.

" Mark their location. We will bury them later. Tell 2nd, the 3rd corps to fall back. We can't afford to lose them."

The major shook his head with a resolute look.

" No colonel. We will fight till our last breath."

He said with a serious look.
