Chapter 39 Clone

Arthur was limping through the field with a serious look. He was bleeding internally due to the bullet impact.

Thud*

He knelt on the ground with a grimace on his face.

" Hey, don't you die on me!"

A single hand reached out from behind. It was Tanya. She was looking at Arthur with bloodied face, unlike her usual wild face. There were two giant bullet marks on her upper shoulder area which was near the arterial vein.

Arthur grabbed her hand and pulled himself up. He smiled wryly.

" You look worse than me. Where have you been?"

He said lightly. Tanya chuckled with a soft look. She couldn't tease this man who always acted tough.

" Well, I am out of bullets. I circled way back here and met with a squad. They almost got me if it wasn't your armor."

She said while supporting Arthur. Arthur sighed with relief. He pointed at the giant building where there was a board.

" That is our mission. If we can restart the program, I can access all the files and satellites."

He spoke with a serious tone. Tanya scanned around them and found no soldiers nearby because they thought this base was worthless hence they destroyed the equipment in the building.

However, Arthur knew the secret control center deep underground the building with a hidden elevator. It was only accessible to a few higher-ups, scientists, and generals to ensure its secrecy.

Arthur and Tanya walked slowly to the building with caution. They couldn't afford to be careless in this mission because every step they took was a life of a soldier who was guiding them to this building.

Arthur took out a pill from his pocket and chewed it. He threw another one to Tanya. Tanya didn't ask his purpose as she gulped it directly.

" That was a powerful pain reliever. I have 5 or so with me, but this medicine has a huge drawback. Once its effect wore off, it would put the user into a deep sluggish state. We have to hurry before that comes."

Beep*

Arthur pressed on the wall and the wall opened a doorway to the secret hall. Tanya raised her eyebrows and asked with suspicion.

" Are there more secrets that I don't know?"

Arthur chuckled with a hollow look. He smiled.

" Oh, you don't want to know that."

Tanya shrugged her shoulders and headed towards the elevator with him.

Ding*

The elevator opened its door.

" Welcome!"

Arthur cleared his throat as he pressed his hand on the wall.

Swoosh*

A laser scan read his palm and recorded his voice.

" Bio identification has been implemented successfully. Welcome, Mr. Frost."

The elevator said with a light tone.

Ding*

It went down with incredible speed which was enough to Tanya get nervous. She turned her head around and looked at Arthur with anxiety.

" Are you sure it is going down?"

She asked nervously. Arthur wiped his sweat off as he smirked. He was dodging her gaze because he was the head engineer of this base. Particularly, he modified this elevator owing to the fact that it was too simple for a secret base. He wanted more, he wanted the machines that reminded him who he was. A genius engineer who rivals the intellect of Tony Stark, Bruce Wayne, and so on. Therefore, he built a room with the greatest technological impact in this era such as this elevator.

Ding*

The elevator reached the lowest floor in a blink of an eye. Tanya saw a room of full white as soon as it opened its door. The computers and every machine were white which was pretty strange.

" Oh God, why is everything white?"

She said with an annoyed look. Arthur coughed.

" Well because it is a hologram. The real room will be opened once we enter the code in that white computer."

Ding*

Suddenly, they heard the elevator sound. Arthur looked back and saw a man with a bald head. He was wearing a jet-black coat as he was smiling at them with mockery.

" Good afternoon, Mr.Frost. I am Yuri. You must know about me."

He said in fluent English. His grey eyes were darting around the room full of curiosity.

Arthur took out his pistol and aimed at him.

Bang*
