Chapter 3
Becca-
I got a drunk text from Brett at like three in the morning, which I just ignored.
It was kind of cloudy, so I decided to go ahead and run after lunch.
I caught myself staring at her house as I walked past it.
I turned my head when I thought I saw something in her window, but looking back there was nothing.
After a mile or so I heard thunder rumbling so I turned the music up on the last mile, pushing myself, ignoring my foot.
I got to the woods and slowed down, huffing and limping.
When I arrived at the edge of the road leaving the woods, I bent over to catch my breath.
As I continued down the road I looked up when I heard her giggling.
Dani: ‘You look like you've been running from something nasty in those woods.’
She had two cups in her hands, then stopped at her mailbox, extending one as I approached.
‘You didn't have to...’
Dani: ‘What? Check my mail? I do it everyday. I just happened to see you in the woods there looking like you might pass out, so the least I could do was offer you some water.’
She smiled so I took a large drink from the cup.
‘Is that, a hint of lime?’
Dani: ‘Guilty. I'm more lime than lemon usually. I keep a pitcher in my fridge with slices in it so I don't have to cut and squeeze them all the time. Didn't really think about it, sorry if you're not a fan.’
‘No, I actually am. Everyone says I'm weird.’
Dani: ‘Different isn't always weird, not that there's anything wrong with either.’
We both smiled.
Another clap of thunder hit and I jumped as large raindrops started to fall.
She just grabbed my hand and started guiding me to her porch.
My mind was rushing and I couldn't think of anything to say.
Dani: ‘Sweet little thing like you might melt in the rain, can't have that.’
She laughed and took a seat, gesturing for me to do the same.
‘I'm ok, really. I'm not far from home.’
Dani: ‘Maybe I'm just selfish. Maybe I don't like the rain, and some company would make me feel better. Come on, it's just a little summer shower, won't last all afternoon.’
I finished the water and smiled.
‘Then could I be selfish and ask for some more water? I just ran my ass off.’
She rolled her head and studied me getting up.
Dani: ‘No, no it's definitely still there, but sure, I'll be right back.’
She took my cup and I sat in the slightly reclined wooden chair.
It was a fair sized porch, almost the length of the house.
A few potted plants, wooden chairs, small tables, and at the end a wooden swing big enough for two.
She came back out with a pack of cigarettes and my cup.
I took the water and she lit a cigarette, offering me one.
‘Oh, no thank you, I'm good.’
She just sat them on the small table by her chair.
Dani: ‘So, what has a cutie like you worried about her figure?’
‘It's, embarrassing. I guess I just know I need to work on it.’
Dani: ‘Oh come on, you've already seen me naked, getting down and dirty with a guy who happened to be visiting. How bad could it be?’
My eyes widened and she laughed.
‘Well, my boyfriend, did a mini semester this summer. So the night before he left, we were going to, well, you know, but he um he couldn't. So he said it must be me. After I had surgery on my foot, I put on some weight, so I get it....’
Dani: ‘No, just fuck no! Do not tell me some little douche bag is blaming his limp little dick on you.’
‘He's not a douche! I really did change....’
She held her hand up and I stopped as she threw her cigarette to the yard and took my hand.
I followed her inside to what seemed like an office and she placed me in front of a tall mirror.
She pulled my tank top up and tucked it into the low neck, then started putting her hands on my ribs and hips.
Dani: ‘See these sweetie? These are your BONES. Your body isn't meant to be too thin. You have a lean figure, but I can already count too many of these.’
She turned me around and reached to my ass, her face an inch from mine.
Dani: ‘And this...’
She squeezed.
Dani: ‘This is an ass, and a really damn nice one at that. Lose the ass, and people don't have anything to play with when they kiss you. See...’
She squeezed harder and pushed her lips to mine, slowly guiding mine to follow hers.
‘Ba-boyfriend...’
Dani: ‘Yeah, I likely have a few of my own.’
‘I, I um, I have to go...’
I just left without another word and ran into the rain.
