Safe Haven

"You're safe now."

"You're safe."

Those were the last words I heard before blacking out.

Those words still linger in my subconscious.

Then I wake up.

To a familiar beeping and whirring sound of several machines.

With my eyes still closed shut, I try to move but there's a sharp stinging pain I feel on my neck.

My hand reaches out immediately to find the source of the pain. This strange foreign feeling, but the wires taped to the back of my palm gets in the way and my fingers barely brushes the cervical collar otherwise known as a neck brace, attached to my neck.

Wait a minute I have a neck brace on? My eyes flutter open.

Colours fill into them and my mother's face comes into view.

I can't believe it. "Mother?" I say her name disbelieving. "Mother is that really you?" My eyelids blink rapidly. Is my mind playing tricks on me?
