Staring back at me

A thousand thoughts entered Anna's mind but not one offered a logical solution to what was happening. Before Anna could ask anything further her reflection picked up the high school issued photograph that Anna's mum had insisted on purchasing before she moved school. Anna hated the picture and begged her mum not to buy it, her fringe was unruly and Anna hadn't been ready for the picture. The outcome was a bewildered Anna with her eyes shut and her fringe taking centre place. Without further warning annA, as she introduced herself, dropped the picture to the floor allowing it to smash onto the marble hearth below.

Anna was shocked, why did she do that? She purposely smashed the photograph.

At the same time, she heard her mother leaving the kitchen and heading towards the living room. Anna pushed her double on to the floor behind the large Chesterfield that filled the lounge area and began to pick up the broken pieces. 'What happened?' Her mother questioned. 'Sorry mum I was just seeing if there was a pen behind the frame and I knocked it off, I'll clear it up'. 'You are clumsy at times Anna' her mother complained as she headed back to the kitchen to continue unpacking the groceries.

After picking up the rest of the broken glass, Anna grabbed her double and headed to her room.

Anna pushed annA into her room and slammed the door behind her. She stood guard over the door as she couldn't risk her new acquaintance escaping and meeting anyone else in the house.

annA skulked over to the large bed and sat on the fluffy throw Anna had laid at the bottom of the bed.

'Why did you do that to my mum's photo frame?' Anna whispered in a stern tone. 'You don't like it, you have your eyes closed. No point having it if you don't like to see it' annA answered as a matter of fact. Whilst that may be true, Anna couldn't believe this stranger who looked like her and, come to think of it, spoke like her, had chosen to just break her mothers frame in that way.

Anna paced the room back and forth trying to understand what was happening and how to get rid of the person staring back at her.

Anna reached for her laptop and quickly switched it on. She quickly opened the web browser and began searching. 'What to do if your reflection jumps out', 'reflection come to life' the closest Anna could find was Spectrophobia- the fear of something jumping out of a mirror. With no real answer as to who this was, Anna just sat on the exge of her bed looking at the words on the screen. Nothing made sense anymore. What was happening and who would believe Anna that her reflection had quite simply, come to life.
