-You better win, Caesar reminded me
-And you better prepare me the best gift for the winner who will be me
-You already have to win, he said to me
-Do you think I'm worthless or what?, I questioned him
-...
-You annoy me, I said suddenly in a slightly cold voice, if you didn't trust me you shouldn't accept Betty's proposal that way you could have found someone else for your fucking race
-Why are you getting angry for nothing?, he replies, mocking
-I'm going, you get me drunk, I said to him as I left
I was tired of these comments. I walk towards the cars.
He catches up with me and takes me by the arm.
-At least take the helmet, he said, handing it to me, if he recognizes you it will be a mess
I take the helmet and put it on my head before leaving.
The plains that rose up around us seemed ready to give us a hard time. But that didn't scare me.
The cars, lined up like beasts ready to be unleashed, vibrated with anticipation. The roar of engines filled the air as the pilots made their final checks. Each of them knew that on these demanding tracks, the slightest mistake could be fatal.
-Miss, your car is over here, a man said to me as he approached me
-Do you work for Caesar?, I asked him suspiciously
-Yes, he said to me, showing me his badge.
-I hope it's a good car you're giving me, I asked him, staring at him.
-Yes, don't worry about that, he reassured me
-Hmm, I replied a little more reassured, Caesar is a good employer
-Yeah, he gives us a lot of vacation time and a very high pay, he replied, nodding his head.
-You're lucky then, I replied.
-Why do you want to work for him?, he asked me
-No, not really, I replied, shaking my head vigorously.
We head to the car and honestly plenty of other cars are also there for the race.
-It's this one, he said to me, pointing at it.
-Okay thank you, I said to him
He hands me the keys before I get into the car.
My own car was a beast of power, ready to roar with every squeeze of the accelerator. Yet even in her stillness, she seemed to quiver with impatience, as if feverishly awaiting the moment when she would be released onto the trail.
The signal sounded, and the world around me began to move in a whirlwind of movement and sound. My heart pounded in my chest as I let the power of my car propel me forward. The first few kilometers were a constant challenge, with tight turns and changing terrain.
On this capricious track, the car shook in a disorderly manner, like a wild bull trying to get rid of its rider. Every turn was a struggle, every bump a battle for control. But despite the jolts and jolts, I remained focused, my eyes fixed on the road ahead of me.
At times, the trail stretched out before me like a velvet carpet, smooth and welcoming. At other times it turned into a maze of rocks and hollows, challenging my resolve at every turn. But I held on, my mind determined to overcome every obstacle in my path.
As the finish line loomed on the horizon, I felt the excitement building within me. My heart was racing, my hands clenched on the steering wheel as I launched my car into one last frantic sprint. The terrain, now flat, then suddenly sloping, seemed to slip away from under my wheels.
With a final effort, I slammed the accelerator, feeling my car's power respond with new fervor. The finish line was there, so close now, a point of light in the darkness around me. And then, in an instant, I was there.
I had won. After miles of hard struggle, tight turns and steep climbs, I had crossed the line first. A wave of emotion washed over me as I realized the magnitude of my achievement. In that moment of triumph, as the cheers of the spectators rang in my ears.
As I got out of the car Hayden walked over to me and hugged me. I took off my helmet and threw it a little further.
-It was great!, he said to me excitedly
-As always, no?, I replied, smiling amusedly at him.
-Yeah as always, he said to me
-I'm sorry, Hayden suddenly said to me in a small voice.
-Why are you apologizing? I asked him, smiling at him.
He doesn't even have time to speak to me before a crowd gathers towards me.
-IT'S DAISY!, someone shouts in shock
-OH MY GOD !
-SIGN ME A DAISY AUTOGRAPH
-DAISY GIVE US A PHOTO POSE
-DAISY! DAISY!, screams the delirious fans
I try to see Hayden through the crowd but I fail miserably.
-DAISY! DAISY!, the delirious fans continue to scream
-LEAVE WITHOUT ME, Hayden shouts through the crowd
I try to get through the crowd but I quickly realize that I won't be able to go very far. I try to make myself very small in the crowd, I pass through the fans and there are so many of us that they lose sight of me in this human pool.
I take advantage when I see a car to get into it as quickly and discreetly as possible.
-Next time I will take a wig with me, I sighed
As I turn my head to look at the car I got into, I meet the gaze of a man.
Who are you ?, I asked myself
Deep down I hoped it was him,
The one I was waiting for
