An irritated Charles first walked through the portal, followed by the reason Charles was irritated in the first place - Wilson and Ivan. The two wouldn't stop talking all the way back from 'Lake Charles' back at the Chília mountains in Immora. The two were like teenage girls talking about the cute boys they had crushes on.
"I actually though we'd get a guardian wraith", Ivan said.
Wilson scoffed and said, "With what luck?".
A guardian wraith, like any other wraith was undead and very shadow-like except, while normal wraiths are consumed with endless rage and resentment, guardian wraiths are rather sad and consumed by remorse. With that remorse, they strive to protect their master at all cost.
Finding a guardian wraith is just pure like. If a person is lucky, after killing any kind of wraith, the said wraith will leave behind an artifact can be used to resummon it back. But since wraiths are famous for being almost impossible to kill, only a handful knew about guardian wraiths. But finding one is rather improbable than impossible.
"But seriously, if I had actually gotten one, my hunting job would become so much easier", Ivan said.
Seriously, Charles couldn't take it anymore. It was like he went on a journey with two curious five year olds who just wouldn't stop talking. He couldn't help but roll his eyes as he closed the portal before walking out of the basement. Sure what they were discussing was interesting to them but isn't to him. He could take care of himself just fine.
Charles walked around, trying to find the delinquents. Since he didn't currently have anything on his schedule, he thought he'd just give the wonder fruit to Jason and then watch him fully heal from Cashel's werewolf bite.
Since Charles couldn't find any of them inside, he went out front and then to the back where he found Bryce and Carter going full karate kid on each other while Kyra, Cashel and Jason watched from the side with amusement and awe.
"What the hell are they doing?", Charles asked himself in annoyance, his lips twitching helplessly. It was as if the universe was punishing him with children when he wasn't in a good mood.
Carter had asked Bryce to spar with him to see if he would reveal any supernatural feat during their battle which was the reason why the two were throwing kicks and punches at each other. Seeing as their spar was still going on, Carter still hadn't been able to show anything supernatural. He was a great fighter, judging by the fact that he had never been in an actual fight before. But that was it. He was just a good fighter without experience, there wasn't anything supernatural about him. At least not yet.
"You're back", Bryce, who was first to notice Charles, said, making the others turn to look at the older warlock. "Did you get the flower?".
"Yeah. Now get inside", Charles said and immediately turned to walk back inside, making the teens follow him.
They walked inside and met Wilson and Ivan who were coming up from the basement. A smile appeared on Wilson's lips when he saw his younger nephew walk inside. He knew immediately that Bryce had been able to make the daylight ring for Jason. He looked to his nephew's hand where surely, he saw the new ring.
"Look who's walking in the sun again", Wilson commented when he saw Jason.
"Uncle Wilson", Jason smiled as Wilson gave him a side hug and ruffled his short and curly black hair, even though he was an inch taller than his uncle.
Jason softly nudged his uncle in his side to make him stop ruffling his hair. Wilson grunted a bit and held his side as if in pain.
"Did you get stronger or something?", Wilson asked.
Even though Jason had held back his strength, the nudge still had a lot of power in it since Jason had only evolved about forty minutes ago so he had yet to gain control over his new found strength.
Jason didn't answer. He just shrugged it off and followed Charles and the others to the main living room of the mansion.
Once everyone had settled, Charles made a hand gesture and a stalk with golden leaves and a golden rose-like flower appeared in his hand. The eyes of the teenager - except Bryce - went wide in surprise when the flower magically appeared in Charles's hand.
"Is that the wonder flower?", Bryce asked. His voice contained a bit of awe at the beauty of the flower and how golden the flower was.
"Yep", Charles answered as he plucked the pebble sized wonder fruit from inside the wonder flower and threw it to Jason. Jason caught it the wonder fruit absolute ease and looked at it.
"Well? What are you waiting for? Eat it and the werewolf bite will heal in no time, getting rid of the remaining venom", Charles said.
Jason looked at the golden fruit once again before rubbing it clean. He slowly brought it to his mouth and put it on his tongue and started chew it. Surprisingly, it tasted like pineapple mixed with lemon. His face turned bitter as he tasted the sourness of the fruit before swallowing it down.
All eyes fell on him as everyone wanted to see what would happened next. For a few seconds, nothing seemed to be happening. Jason was about to say something when he felt a tingling sensation coming from his side. It was coming from the same place the werewolf bite was located. He pulled up his shirt and removed the gauze, revealing the bite that was healing at a speed visible to the naked eye. And in just a few seconds, the bite had fully healed.
"Woah", Carter, who was the only one who hadn't witnessed a wound heal that fast couldn't contain his awe.
Ivan, Wilson and even Kyra and Cashel, who knew how lethal werewolf venom was to vampires were also quite surprised at the rate the wonder fruit healed the bite. The blood of a werewolf vampire hybrid wouldn't even be able to heal a werewolf bite this fast.
Werewolf vampire hybrids are the result of vampires and werewolves mating. They have the abilities of both species while having almost none of their weaknesses. However, hybrids were mostly considered a myth since vampires couldn't actually procreate.
Even though it was true that vampires couldn't procreate, there was a 0.001% chance that a vampire can actually give birth. This is how creatures like the Dhampir and the Hybrid are created.
Hybrid blood is one of the ways to cure a werewolf bite but it wasn't a choice to consider for Jason since hybrids are as rare as they come. The number of hybrids on earth wouldn't even sum up to 20 even though they could procreate like normal people.
Charles took the gauze from Jason's hand and it was immediately set in flame as it burnt away without even leaving behind its ashes by Charles's magic.
Charles was about to say something when he noticed the slight shimmer on Jason's skin. The others all also noticed the oddity on Jason's skin.
Charles stepped closer to Jason, carefully scrutinizing the soft shimmering of Jason's skin. He immediately turned to Bryce but an open grimoire on a table nearby caught his attention. He walked to it and picked it up. His eyes went wide when he read through the open page. Charles looked back up at Bryce, his face dark at the thought that they might have killed a person to complete the spell.
"What did you do?", Charles asked, his voice containing traces of worry and anger.
Bryce was taken aback by the sudden seriousness in Charles's voice that he couldn't come up with words to explain himself.
"Did you kill somebody?", Charles asked, his voice heavier.
Bryce was surprised by the question that he shouted out in disbelief, "No".
Charles was visibly relieved as he let out a small sigh. He really thought Bryce had killed a person to complete the ritual.
"Then how did you do it?", Charles asked. From the grimoire, it shouldn't be possible to even start the ritual without sacrificing a person to turn their soul to pure magical energy and then be transferred to the target through the witch that started the ritual.
"I kinda improvised as we went on", Bryce said making Charles almost choke on nothing.
"You improvised?", Charles asked in disbelief and Bryce nodded, proud of himself as if he had done nothing wrong.
"You improvised a spell?", Charles asked again. From his tone, the others now knew that it could've been really dangerous what Bryce did.
Once again, Bryce nodded.
"Wow, that might just be the safest thing I've heard all day", Charles barked, his tone oozing with sarcasm. "You might as well be the stupidest person I know right now. Do you know what could've happened to the two of you if something had gone wrong".
"But it hadn't", Bryce refuted.
Charles could only sigh. It was true that nothing went wrong but what if something ℎ𝑎𝑑 gone wrong, ℎ𝑒 would have been held responsible and he wasn't really one for responsibility. Taking care of three teens was enough of a drag.
There was a lot of things that could have happened if the ritual had gone wrong and their deaths wouldn't be the worst.
It was a stupid thing that Bryce did but it did work nonetheless.
"Uh, am I the only one clueless as to what is going on?", Carter who only found out magic was real just last night was having a tough time getting what was happening. And he wasn't the only one.
"Care to elaborate yourselves?", Charles asked, looking between Bryce and Jason.
Bryce sighed and started, "It was an evolution ritual. I found it when Jason and I were searching for the daylight ornament spell. I thought it was interesting so i wanted to try it out and Jason agreed so we did it. The ritual was supposed to have three people in it: the target, the caster and the sacrifice"
"The ritual demanded a sacrifice. The soul of the person would generate the needed magical energy, which would then be sent to the target through the caster. Since we couldn't actually kill a person for the ritual, i thought we could use the magic from the gem instead. It worked and Jason successfully evolved".
"Like a pokemon?", Cashel said, making Kyra roll her eyes.
"Like a pokemon", Bryce repeated.
"Except, you didn't actually complete the ritual. That...", Charles said. He then pointed at Jason and said, "...should have happened when the ritual was completed. You would have known that if you had read the page throughout".
Bryce rolled his eyes at that.
"The ritual must have not been completed because of the werewolf venom in your system. The venom was acting as some kind of retardant", Charles concluded. "And now that the venom is no longer there to stop the process, the evolution is finally complete".
"And has it been completed now?", Jason asked. Just as he finished, the soft shimmer on him body disappeared.
"It ℎ𝑎𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑤", Charles said.
Just then, to show that the process was complete, Jason's face morphed into his vampire face but this time, there were some changes. This eyes had still turned completely black but instead of thin black veins underneath his black eyes, there were now dark blue veins.
His fangs also appeared in his mouth, but instead of two, he now had four. Both upper canines and both upper lateral incisors had turned into fang though the lateral incisors were shorter that the canines.
And finally, Jason's fingernails gradually morphed into sharp and deadly claws. But they weren't just any claws, they looked more like werewolf claws.
